A traitor in the U.S. Government. A Senator savagely murdered. A conspiracy years in the making. As a massive snow storm paralyzes the US Capital, a secret congressional committee is handed evidence of the unthinkable. A high-level traitor in the U.S. Government selling secrets to China. Before they can act, one of their own is murdered.
Enter Colin Frost, an ex-special forces operator. He and his highly-classified black ops team have been hunting a dangerous serial killer across Afghanistan who is destabilizing the entire region.
When they get the call to find the Senator’s killer, they are startled to see the similarities between the murders in Afghanistan and the Senator at home. They instantly know the two are related and must get to the bottom of the conspiracy before more Senators are killed and the United States is irrevocably harmed.
But Colin has a secret...
His sister was murdered seventeen years ago, and the unsolved crimes of the past are too similar to the present conspiracy to ignore.
This snow-filled political conspiracy thriller by debut author Brad Pierce takes the reader through a dark mystery, decades-long conspiracy, and a personal journey of revenge and justice against a literal angel of death.
Will Colin Frost succeed, or will he lose himself along the way?
Political intrigue, daring special forces and a blizzard in DC made this an enjoyable read. The characters were well developed and interesting and the face pacing moved the story along a twisty turning path. I will surely read the next in this series.
Unfortunately, this was a book that had such a promising plot, but did not fully execute for me. Even though I had not heard anything about this, I was optimistic based upon the concept and reviews.
However, I just could not get fully into the story. The characters were really underdeveloped to me, and the mystery was a little jumbled in my opinion. This book still had some highlights though; it read very quickly, and there were some surprising moments. Overall though, I left this book feeling pretty indifferent.

Thank you Goodreads giveaways and Brad Pierce for this ARC of Capital Murder.
1.5 ⭐️ rounded up
Probably not my genre and I probably won’t read another political thriller in the future. The cover just says Thriller, and since I like going into books blind, I did not expect to be confused with all the politics throughout the book.
I think the reason this was a 2 ⭐️ read was because of the grammar errors. This is 2024 and I feel as though there are many editors or even Word that should have caught them. I highlighted and commented on one sentence for an example.
There was a lot of technical talk that I felt wasn’t necessary. The author also referred to the antagonists as “bad guys,” and it really threw me off. I also wished that they didn’t kill off a FMC at the end of the book.
I did enjoy the dual timeline and connection of Frost to the “bad guy.” The setting being in DC was pretty cool since they mentioned areas and streets that I recognized.
I feel so bad writing this harsh review, but it really did not sit well with me. Definitely took me forever to finish, which could have influenced my read. Thank you again for the ARC and the book is out now.
Colin Frost, who as a young boy lost his parents and witnessed the brutal murder of his older sister who had become his guardian, leads an elite special forces team that has been pursuing a brutal hired killer through Afghanistan but has now been identified as responsible for the death of a US Senator as part of a massive campaign of treason. The characterisation is a touch simplistic and, like others in this genre the description of the weaponry probably appeals to gun loving Americans but is unnecessarily detailed for the story. Despite this the plot keeps your attention and there are a good number of surprise twists. Two small criticisms, in the scenes with his sister there’s mention of a second brother who is never mentioned again, what happened to him? Secondly, purely my opinion, the decision to kill a central character was a mistake as you could imagine the character being a useful recurring character as the series progresses.
If you are looking for a fast paced and exciting thriller, this one is for you.
The story takes place in Washington DC over the course of one day in the middle of a huge snowstorm. U.S. Senators are being killed and Colin Frost and his special unit are brought in to find the killer. It turns out that the assassin is the same one they have been tracking around the world. Colin also begins to suspect that the current killing spree and the person behind it has some connection to his sister's murder many years before.
The characters got a bit mumbled up for me at times, and there were times when I felt the "tech talk" got a bit more detailed than it needed to. But overall, this is a quick read and very fast paced. I wanted to keep the pages turning, and there were definitely some twists and turns at the end.
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Spoiler Alert. The action is good and fast, but the credibility stretches the imagination. This is regarding Chinese agents brazenly killing Americans, including US senators, on American soil. Did the author not think that a likely consequence would be war between the US and China? And the ending is poor and inconclusive, leaving the reader hanging in the air. In addition, the sentences sometimes are long and clunky.
If you like political thrillers with lots of espionage and conspiracy, then this book is for you. Lots of loose ends get tied up and linked together. Good read. I'm looking forward to reading the series as they are released.
Not my usual genre that I read, but I very much enjoyed it! It’s a page turning thriller where the action scenes truly come to life as you read. Can’t wait to see what Colin Frost will get into in book two!
A high ranking mole within the US government and Colin Frost and his team of special operators are sent in from the outside to root it out. A fast paced read, due to short chapters, with lots of action and a few surprises. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Solid plot and characters. Inconsistent writing quality, especially with too many long sentences with complex structure and improperly placed descriptor clauses.
Solid read. Fast paced, crime, and political corruption. A “slow burn” crime book if you will. Didn’t rush to the point but didn’t drag it out either. Great read!
