A friendly alien-human romp through interstellar relations and finding that special someone.
Flynn “Red” Clarke is training as a translator for negotiations between Earth and a newly discovered alien race. On NorthPoint Station, the only link to the alien homeworld, he quickly finds a new friend in his playful alien counterpart as they perfect their touch-signing under the watchful eyes of the fearful Masters.
Together with the translation team, they must tame a terrifying force that separates humans and aliens, to ease tensions between the misinformation-riddled Earth and a skeptical alien race. And what about the Olmas, builders of NorthPoint Station and the wealthiest men in the Solar System? Is it all sweaty man-on-man fun in zero-G or is there a happy ending for Flynn in the offworld community of spacers and aliens?
David Gray is a retired scientist who finally has time to explore the adventure of writing fiction. His novels and short stories live somewhere in the intersection between romance, fantasy, and science fiction, with cozy themes and happy endings. He lives with his husband in sunny San Diego, where they dote on their jungle kitty Bagheera.
I thought this would just be a light, fun summer read, but I was pleasantly surprised. Centered on the human team working on language with the first alien life form, reptilian and resembling snakes. There were interesting scientific bits thrown in as well as bits of humor. There were even some semi-erotic scenes (between the humans, not inter-species. LOL). The book was a free download; I admit that's the only reason I read it, but now I'm glad I did.
Yes, there is gay sex, but it's only a small part of the whole story, and the least believable (really? ALL handsome men are gay?)
The only minus point I see is the less than satisfactory ending. It switches from SF to contemporary political problems in about two pages, and then tells (with little "show" and no action from the protagonist) depressing events of several months, followed by a hurried happy ending.
Since it's free at Amazon (at the moment) nothing speaks against trying it out.
Good story telling. A fun read for those looking to explore space fantasy with a touch of romance. A political theme runs through the book, but enhances the story rather than ruin it.
story line: *** main characters: ***** side characters: ***** world building: **** editing: ***** From the blurb, I expected something different. But it was a fun read, with interesting world building. Could have been longer.
Downloaded this for free on my kindle and was pleasantly surprised by it. It was a nice quick read with an interesting and creative plot. I enjoyed all of the characters.
