This was another great read. I was fully invested in the story and the characters. Kinda wanted to see more of Dominic, though. I'm assuming from the epilogue there won't be a third book, which I'm a little gutted about. I'd definitely recommend reading Her first.
I read Her and thoroughly enjoyed it and I was not disappointed when I opened and began to read Him. Full of plot twists and tension these two books may be my favourite crime thrillers in a while! Told in multiple POV, including the unnamed killer, I loved that ,as with Her, the perpetrator was not called by name and you spent your whole time guessing who it was while taking in the snippets of information and the clues that might lead you to who it was before it’s revealed. I also loved learning more about Anna/Lisa and I have to say that I was rooting for her to get her happy ending as crazy as that may be. I love that we meet the characters and get to know them via the multiple POV’s because it makes you feel invested..you actually want to find out what happens to them, you begin to either care or feel anger depending on who you meet. I’ve enjoyed these two books so much that I’ve borrowed Until death from KU by this author to see if a different story is just as good! Highly recommend this book but go read Her first so you get the whole experience.
This is book 2 of a darkly satisfying vigilante series by CM Serpell. It follows on from Her, which is also an excellent read. Both books are paced well, gripping with just the right amount of tension to make you want to read ‘just one more chapter’! Set in Brighton, the scenery is evocative and the perfect backdrop for the protagonist. As well as being a tense read, it made me question what I believe to be right or wrong and that in fact, there isn’t necessarily one correct answer. A super read that I would highly recommend.
I enjoyed this book but felt it lost a bit of momentum towards the end and was left a bit confused! It was tricky as lots of references to the previous book which I hadn't read - although I felt it worked as a stand alone story, I think I'd have enjoyed it more had I the background - probably would have explained the lead character better and helped me to warm to her more . Overall I'd recommend :)
This is a great sequel to HER, with a mix of old and new characters. The setting (Brighton) was especially well researched, and Lisa also laid a few personal ghosts to rest in her home town of Plymouth. She cleverly paved the way for her new friend in Brighton to return to her old life - a life that had been full of disappointment and abuse; and again this strand of the plot was well researched. I very much liked the unexpected ending - well, unexpected for me at least.
Another captivating book by CM Serpell! I was engrossed in the story and invested in the characters, specifically Claire. Serpell continues to create stories that provoke imagery for the reader. Her writing enables the reader to be fully embedded in the story. 5 stars! Can’t wait to see what else this author comes up with!
This is a mix of crime and normal life and romance. I liked the book and read it in no time. It was pretty exciting but sometimes you knew already what would happen, which isn't normally a bad thing. I would read another book from this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A fantastic sequel to HER! Loved reading this book and seeing the characters journey continued in another seaside adventure of retribution and vengeance. Great novel from C.M. Serpell - looking forward to her next book!
