They're spicier than hot sauce and as cool as iced cappuccino. The Cheetah Girls outshine any diamond with their supa-dupa inner sparkle! Now see how it all began in the first books of the series starring Galleria, Chanel, Dorinda, Anginette, and Aquanette. Each bind-up features four Cheetah-licious tales about girls having guts, brains, courage, and friends (while flashin' some style and always shining from the heart).
Chanel's trying hard not to have a cheddar meltdown with all the drama in her life while the Cheetah Girls try to figure out how to get their street cred back after losing the Apollo Theater Amateur contest.
The fourteenth book in The Cheetah Girls book series is again told in the POV of Chanel. Firstly though, Raven Symoné was snubbed in the dedication when Deborah Gregory dedicated the book to the "on-screen Cheetah Girls" but did not include Raven who played Galleria in the TV movies.
Ever since fainting from starving herself a few books back, Chanel has apparently not learned her lesson. In this one, she decides to eat carrot sticks and only carrot sticks, putting her health at risk. Not only that, the girls end up performing in a competition and win, even when another group tries to steal their look.
Just a very middling entry. The characters have shown zero character growth in the process of this book series. I can't speak for the anorexia representation, but hopefully it teaches young girls who go through the same thing to seek help, and that friends will always be there for you when you need them.
I also have a reading vlog where I vlogged my experience reading the entire Cheetah Girls book series (as well as some musical numbers from the movie) - https://youtu.be/dxJqXNt34X4
Bow Wow Chanel is more than a little jealous because Galeria has a new dog (Ragu). Toto knocked up the neighbor dog and when she found out she got ticked off. To be vindictive she said she wasn’t going to give Galleria any of the puppies. But Mrs. Doretha filed a lawsuit and won half of the litter. Chanel thinks even her brother Pucci has a pet. While Chanel is wanting a dog, Toto well is wanting something else from Ragu. Everyone tries to make her feel better. Angie and Aqua (whose dad surprisingly let them have a puppy) try to get Channel to help them name it. Dorinda (who got one too) says Chanel can come over and play with Nobu anytime she wants. Mrs. Dorothea even says that if Juanita lets her have one (even though there aren’t any left) she’ll get another one from their neighbor. But none of this is a consolation for Chanel and she can’t stop crying. Madrina says don’t worry she’s on the job. She’ll talk Juanita into getting the dog for Chuchie.
Chanel also starts to worry about how stomach and decides that despite what the doctors say, she needs to start exercising. Then fa sure she’ll get noticed and signed by Def Duck. Chanel afterward goes to visit Princess Pamela and they talk about how the recent construction on some nearby building by Chanel ran out a man who once sold pickles because the costs are rising. She says she’ll have to go home for a while to meet with some people that plan to do something about making Romania better. Then Chanel tells her about her problems about the dog and not have gone to the studio yet. Princess says if it’s meant to be it will be and that Mouse can’t stop that. She also says Chanel will get the dog. Juanita calls and tells Chanel to meet her at home.
Juanita still won’t give in about the dog, and what’s worse she says that Mr. Tycoon asked her to live with him in Paris. Chuchie lets it go for the moment so she can get her hair done and ends up at her job at Madrinas. Bubbles comes in and tries to make up with Chuchie for being insensitive about her not getting one of the puppies. Then she starts talking about how they can get some “street cred” back because its been going around they’re soft and being clowned about not winning at the Apollo. She says that the Harlem School of the Arts is having a “Can We Get A Groove” competition for its 35th-year anniversary fundraiser. And since Mouse hasn’t called..
Kadeesha (who started the trash talk) and Galeria get into it at school over it. Hambone and Mackerel says they’ll be there to see the CG’s battle. The next day Bubbles gets a lot of attention because she’s gotten her braces taken off the day before. But Mackerel’s attention is on Chanel and he asks her to hang out with him after school. Galleria though reminds her that they have plans to get their hair straightened. Chanel says she’ll go alone but she’ll owe her if she has to sit with Derek. But Juanita makes Chanel pick up her brother. Chuchie is so busy thinking about how she’s going to tell Mack that she has to cancel and that he probably doesn’t like her any way that she almost steps up into traffic and gets hit.
Later, Dorina finds out Chenel has been eating carrots because she’s dieting. Chanel wants her to keep it a secret from Bubbles but Dorinda doesn’t agree to this.
The next day, Chanel finds out even a friend of hers (Daisy) is getting a puppy. Mack gives her the cold shoulder after Chanel doesn’t get a chance to explain why she stood him up (because of Galleria). He gives her the chance to make it up but it’s the night of the contest. She asks him to come but he says “sarcastically” he has something to do. He doesn’t even notice she straightened her hair (it’s in a style like Aaliyah’s hanging over her right eye). Bubbles also gets mad at Chanel because she overhears Mack ask her about rehearsing the song they wrote and it’s the new song that *she* wrote with the others over the Cheetah meeting Chanel didn’t go to because she and her mom were fighting. So, since they’re doing one song and they’re using Toto in the act, they practice “Wanna Be Stars” with him. Toto does a twirl that is sure to win the audience over and get the CG’s a major deal. But after practice, the CGs all confront Chanel about why her color has turned orange. She confesses to them her tummy is getting big but they all think she’s trippin. Luckily they’re interrupted by Juanita who invites them to dinner, but they say they can’t stay. Pucci and Juanita also notice how orange Chanel’s skin is turning.
Later that night, Chuchie looks in the mirror and is shocked to see they were telling the truth. Then she starts to feel light-headed and gets exhausted and goes to sleep. Only to wake up and find a mouse in her hair. Pucci then discovers two more (total three) in her closet. (Because of all the construction). He quickly sets up homemade mouse traps. Chanel is scared and starts to cry and won’t come down over the counter. (Snorts) Like a mouse couldn’t crawl up the counter. Chanel refuses to go back in her room so Pucci tells her she can sleep in his bed. (Umm how do they know they aren’t in his room too?) Juanita is furious and says this always happens when there’s a lot of construction. (Not really!)
In dance class the next day, Chanel has a dizzy spell and falls out. The doctor tells her for the next few days she’ll have to stuff herself with carbs. If not she’ll be sent to a special hospital for having an eating disorder. Chanel spends the night with Bubbles that night. Her mother and Bubble’s got into it. But Chanel finds out that she can still dance in the competition (if she doesn’t touch another carrot). Termintors will come in and check all the loft buildings.
On the day of the contest, the GG run into some girls (The Fabulations) who try to bite their look and show up in cheetah outfits. Mrs. Doretha tries to talk to them but has no luck convincing them to change clothes. So she speaks to the lady over the school and this doesn’t do anything. So, they decide the show must go on. The Fabulations are a joke. They sample “Oops I Did It Again”. The CG blow the crowd away with Toto. THE CHEETAH GIRLS WIN THE CONTEST! In honor of Chenel the twins name their puppy “Cocoa” (which is Chanel’s middle name). Eddie doesn’t come (he was supposed to) but Derek and Mack do. Galleria is upset. Pucci presents Chanel with a bag hinting that his mouse trap worked and one is inside. Only it turns out to be a bone. Mack apologizes for stirring up the beef with Chanel and Galleria. He already knew about the lie that she wrote on Bow Wow Wow. (Personally, I would not have claimed to have wrote not one lyric on that song). Then Juanita surprises Chanel with a dog of her own (that she bought) and she names him “Mr. Prada”.
My Thoughts: I guess I can understand this one a little bit better than the last one. Even though Ooops Doggy Dog should have come before this one. I never wanted a puppy. Although I thought Toto was cute in the movie. But I can understand very well what it’s like to see everyone else get the thing you want the most and I can even still feel the tiny lingerings of the hurt I used to feel. Well, that is until I discovered a stronger part of me that realized I really didn’t want the thing they had after all. But I do know what it's like. So, in the end, I was happy that Chanel *did* get a puppy. Oftentimes (it all depends) you *might* eventually get the thing you want that everyone else has or you not every get it. Toto reminds me a lot of my Uncle’s girlfriend’s dog (Tyson) whose small like Toto. Only other than hump female dogs, he has a tendency to want to hump inanimate objects (like pillows or dog toys).
The part with the mice invading Chanel’s room (partly the one that got in her hair) just made me CRINGE! I don’t think it was because of the construction that they can out. I think it’s more that maybe the man with the Pickle Shop didn’t keep his place CLEAN like Galleria said. Possibly he didn’t even have someone come in to exterminate. I’m just glad that I don’t live in a big city if this is what brings out rodents.
Mack could have given Channel a chance to explain wju sje dodmt ,eet jo,. Nit tjem agaom sje cpi;d tried harder to let him know she couldn’t come to Papaya King. Maybe she didn’t have his number but I’m sure Galleria has Derek’s. I know he probably gave it to her. And then they said the school wasn’t so big. Derek and Mack always seem to just pop up randomly when the cheetahs aren’t trying to see them. This just *would* be the one time they aren’t anywhere to be found. I just kinda hate how in this series Chanel tends to let Galleria walk all over her at times. She should have just told Mack. “It’s not like that. I had to pick up my brother and take him to his lesson. My mom called at the last minute. I tried to find you and tell you but I couldn’t.” And if he was still pissed after that then oh well..

It is very weird that the author did not mention Raven Symoné in the dedication in the beginning of the book. Very weird.
This books deals with a sensitive topic that Chanel has already dealt with in the previous books. The delivery and the way it was handled in this book felt okay for the most part. I can see the different path the books take while talking about these topics, especially to teenagers and younger audiences.
I would have preferred to see more storylines from Chanel’s pov mainly because her storylines had more potential than what we had. Considering this was her “final” pov book I expected more from it and I was sadly disappointed.
