Made it through Book 1, but just couldn’t convince myself to continue. I was more than a little bored, frankly. I like the bones of the story, but I didn’t embrace the execution.
A messy, melodramatic little wolf‑soap‑opera that leans hard into every rejected‑mate trope in the book, The Alpha’s Rejected Mate lands as a solid 3‑star read—fun in its chaos, entertaining in its drama, but not quite deep or polished enough to hit harder.
This one has that “I made a terrible decision and now the universe is punishing me for it” energy from page one. Gavin is the kind of alpha who thinks he’s got life handled until fate hands him a mate he doesn’t want, doesn’t understand, and absolutely does not treat well. His rejection is instant, cruel, and so obviously going to boomerang back into his face that you can practically hear the cosmic laugh track.
And then there’s the mate—unshifted, underestimated, invisible to everyone except the wolf who won’t shut up about her. She’s the emotional core of the story, even when the writing doesn’t give her as much depth as she deserves. Her pain is real, her fear is real, and the way she’s treated by the pack makes you want to throw hands on her behalf.
The plot is pure shifter‑drama:
a rejected fated mate
a scheming “chosen” partner
a missing Beta’s daughter
a villainess who goes full telenovela
and an alpha who suddenly realizes he might have made the biggest mistake of his life
It’s fast, it’s wild, and it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is: a quick, trope‑heavy paranormal romp where the emotional logic sometimes wobbles, the pacing sometimes sprints, and the characters sometimes act like they’ve never had a rational thought in their lives.
But that’s also the charm. It’s messy in a way that’s fun to watch, like yelling at characters in a reality show who absolutely should know better by now. The emotional payoff is there, even if it’s not as layered or satisfying as stronger entries in the genre.
A breezy, dramatic 3‑star shifter romance—light on nuance, heavy on tropes, and exactly the kind of book you read when you want a little chaos and a lot of wolf‑drama.
I only read the first book, the story of Gavin and Billie. I stopped reading after that but poked ahead in the others just enough to know who ended up with who and the gist of what happened at the end.
**Spoilers!**
Gavin was shallow at the beginning. He took the position of Alpha at seventeen after his parents died four years prior. He was dating the daughter of another alpha of a nearby pack for a few months before he had his "moondream" announcing who his mate was. It was Billie, his girlfriend's adopted sister, who he assumed was mousey, weak, and not all that attractive. He confronted her and, with disgust, said that he didn't want her. It was only when he realized that she may be the missing daughter of their former Betas that he decided he wanted to get to know her. He did end up apologizing to her for a couple of things throughout the book, but he never did actually ask for forgiveness for rejecting him. I feel Billie was too soft towards him. She claimed to build up a wall a couple of times, but it didn't take long for him to smash them down. Personally, I didn't feel there was much growth in him. He said he wanted to be a better person for her, and that's fine, but his reasons for rejecting her and then choosing to get to know her were shallow.
I generally enjoy rejected mate tropes, particularly where the guy grovels for forgiveness for doing it, or where she gets a second chance mate who puts the previous one in their place. What I DISLIKE is when the male who rejects his mate has previously slept with a woman, particularly one who has been cruel to the FMC, and still gets her in the end. How could the FMC even think about being with him, KNOWING he's been with that other woman? This book even specifies him checking out the original girlfriend at the beginning, then when he goes to break up with her to get to know Billie better, he still has brief doubts about doing it because he remembers his hands "all over her curves." Seriously. Freaking ick. Billie deserved better than that.
I'm just leaving this book behind and moving on to something I think I'll enjoy better.

First of all, I want to say that this series kind of doesn’t make sense to me. Amazon lists five books in the Moonlit Forbidden Love series. This book happens to be #2 in that series but here it’s listed as book #1 of the Mythic Wars Alpha series. And while book #2 - #4 do seem to be related, book #1, The Alpha’s Rejected Mate has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the series. Make it make sense.
Regardless, let’s discuss this book . . . It just didn’t grab me and pull me in. I didn’t feel any chemistry between the two main characters. I felt more connection with some of the friendships that “Billie,” our FMC, made with some pack members than she had with her own mate. This book also didn’t resolve everything either. Unless the author will do that over the course of the next books in the series.
Honestly, the only reason I’m continuing with the next book is because I do want to see what happens between 2 of the characters introduced in this book. Other than that, I’m not sure I’m going to continue the series.
The start to the Mythic Wars Alpha series don’t start of you do not plan on reading to the last page has been turned so hang on, get comfortable with your snacks and favorite drink 😊. Billie is sweet she has been judged most of her life because she doesn’t or hasn’t gotten her wolf, she dreams of meeting her mate hoping he will see all of her, she has always wondered about her past, but when the day comes meeting her mate happy and he rejects her immediately without getting to know her but on the fact she has never shifted. Gavin sexy as all get out alpha has waited for his fated mate but when he has a dream of her of course that can’t be she has no wolf and who want a mate that can’t shift let alone one with no family, so he makes a decision to reject her from the start accepting a chosen mate. But his chosen mate couldn’t be happy being with him in fact she wants to kill both of their fated mates and that he can’t or doesn’t want to be onboard with that plan especially figuring out his fated mates heritage but where is it headed considering her adoptive family hates her, now that they have locked her up she has nothing but time to think why did they adopt her, how did they get her, will her adoptive brother come for her, will Gavin be honest about his feelings, will he discover the truth before it is too late, so many questions, and where are they headed will she get the peace maybe a little happiness?
I wish this author knew her bum from a hole in the ground when it came to wildlife and southwestern US geography and taxonomy. As an historian, avid outdoors enthusiast, former hunter (admittedly I hunt with a camera now rather than a rifle), and lifelong Southwestern resident, the mistakes this author made were irritating to me:
A female Rocky Mountain cow elk (the species native to the region in which she set the story) weighs in between 375-640 pounds, and the male bull elk of that species weigh 500-900 pounds. There are two varieties of deer also found in Colorado, whitetail deer and mule deer - the females are called does - and weigh in at about 150-200 pounds. So, a 100 pound harvested animal would be a baby of some variety of Cervidae, not a full-grown animal of either species, and that's NOT a substantial hunting harvest. Now then, let's talk diction: the word "elk" is the singular AND the plural for that animal, just like "deer" is the singular and plural for that species. "Elks" is a non-standard discouraged usage and is actually more commonly used for the private benevolent organization of that same name.
But the author didn't just fail in her research regarding the wildlife of the southwest region of the United States, but messed up about the geography, too. The Gunnison River for which the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park was named, is the largest tributary of the Colorado River, but it is NOT large enough for "ships" or shipwrecks for that matter - in fact there are sections of the river you'd be lucky to draft a canoe. Since the Gunnison River is a tributary of the Colorado River, it does not let out into any bay areas, as the author described in her details of Gavin's pack lands. The Blue Mesa Reservoir, a man-made lake created from damming part of the Gunnison River, is also not large enough for "ships" or "shipwrecks" either. So, a "shipwreck" on the Gunnison River that would yield wood for Gavin's fireplace mantle is not probable or accurate.
So let's talk botany. Piñon (alternatively "pinyon") Pines are native to the Western United States, are the state tree of New Mexico, and typically grow in the foothills and mesas (tablelands) not generally at elevations mixing with Colorado Blue Spruce trees.
And lastly, the publication date was May of 2024, but I swear I've read this exact plot with the same characters an all, some years ago, but it didn't show up in my Goodreads read book list under this author, as if it was published under a different author's name first. So, is this another one of those books that they put a new cover on changed a couple of things and republished? In either case the author needs to stick with what she knows or do better research. Heck, even Wikipedia which isn't always all that reliable would have been better than going into it and making these kinds of mistakes.
A lot is packed into this first book of a new series. There’s rejection, but not the typical kind in werewolf books. Let’s just say, Alpha Gavin says ‘no way’ to a moondream showing him his fated mate. Billie just is not his type. She’s sloppy, so quiet she’s practically invisible and is a late bloomer whose wolf has yet to show. Gavin has a lot to learn, and learn he does. He gets to graduate from the school of hard knocks.
You’ve heard of storylines about enemies to lovers. Well, this is just the opposite, it’s lovers to enemies and a whole lot more. Two close knit packs battle it out, secrets are exposed revealing the unthinkable. An adulterous affair sets everything in motion. Betrayal, pride, death and greed are just the beginning. Power hungry shifters are on the prey.
🤔 OBSERVATIONS
✒︎ As the first book in a series, I realize a lot of ‘introductions’ are necessary. I almost think too much was packed into this. I found myself ‘reading’ rather than ‘feeling’ while flipping the pages.
✒︎ This can be a standalone but sets itself up for future battles.
✒︎ Wolf shifters are the main characters, however a lot of ‘others’ are included (and they all have their own type of ‘little gods’).
✒︎ Less chit-chat would free up space for more depth and impact in character development and important scenes. I wanted to ‘see’ characters face their choices…example: Catrina, Colt, David and to a certain extent, Gavin. What about Muriel’s daughter? What’s going on with those dragons? How could David just flee at the end when he was fighting on his own pack grounds? Did he leave his pack behind? Thus the 3 1/2 star rating.

Billie has been protected by her adoptive father all her life but when she finally has her Moondream which tells her who her fated mate is she realises he's the forceful Alpha of another pack, and her sister's boyfriend. When he goes to her his first action is to reject her to keep his relationship with her sister; though after shifting for the first time, she finds another shifter in need and Gavin is the first to come to their aid.
Gavin became the alpha of his pack when his parents were killed by dragons. Ever since he's been mentored by David, his girlfriend's dad, but when he finally senses his fated mate he feels he has to reject the weak girl as he needs strength for his pack. But after starting to distrust David and his daughter, he finds Billie defending another and knows he has to protect them both. The more time he spends with Billie the closer they grow, but her adoptive family won't leave them alone.
An action packed shifter romance, with drama, action, mystery, discovery, various different shifter types, love and a HEA with a hint of more to come. This can be read as a stand-alone but is the start of a trilogy and I can't wait to find out what happens with some of the other characters.

This has so much potential, and yet it was just so flat. The pacing was poor, and really killed the anticipation of the plot. The romance lacked all kinds of interest and emotion, and they didn't have any strong bonding moment between them, or even discuss the original rejection. The characters had backstories but it felt like they didn't have them to bring their character any depth, but rather cause they needed to have some kind of plot. The writing style wasn't bad but it didn't wow me, and there wasn't any humour or banter between characters to keep them likable. And while spicy scenes aren't essential, for a shifter romance you expect some. This one did EVENTUALLY, at 83% of the way through a 200 page book? And it was just so lack luster, no passion or interest from the characters but more felt like it was added because it was expected. I think it's hard to mess up fated mates cause you can play off that innate pull they have together to create a foundation of a connection, or at least attraction. But this one didn't even have that. So disappointed.
Gavin’s a jerky alpha and Billie is a doormat orphan. Upon finding out they’re fated mates, Gavin rejects Billie because she wear baggy clothes and seems quiet. He’s never had a conversation with her, but he’s sure she’s weak.
Actually… he’s right. Billie is also pretty boring. Gavin is also boring. They’re a match made in boring heaven.
Gavin finds out his girlfriend Catrina is a murderer, dragons are hunting a unicorn to do an evil ritual, and Billie’s foster father probably murdered her parents. Come to think of it, a lot of people in this book are homicidal maniacs. Their nefarious motives are poorly explained, and no one has any real character development.
Billie gets herself captured, because she’s sort of stupid, but everyone rides to her rescue. Instead of using their upper hand to kill all the homicidal enemies, they let all the bad guys escape, except for Catrina, so that the next couple of books can prolong their nefarious plans.
Tara has been kidnapped right in front of her fated mate, Griffin, who had rejected her. Turns out that her mother, Rhianna, queen of the Fae arranged the kidnapping of Tara, her daughter. Tara, unknown to Griffin is pregnant with his twins and Rhianna wants to use the twins for her own purposes. The Fae are arrogant and obnoxious, so look down their noses on the Lycans and Raegal, the head of the team who kidnapped Tara feels extremely superior toward Griffin. While Griffin puts up a good fight, it was a losing battle before it began.
This is a fast paced book with so much drama, action and suspense that it will keep you turning the pages as you rush to find out the reason behind Tara's kidnapping by her own mother, why her father is terminally ill when this is unheard of for Lycans, and why Griffin would reject his fated mate. You'll want to learn how it all plays out: who wins and who loses in the end. A very enjoyable read that will keep you drawn in to the very end.
Billie has been mistreated most of her life because she doesn’t have her wolf, she dreams of meeting her mate hoping he will see her and support her, she an orphan she has been treated as maid in her home, but when the day comes meeting her mate, he rejects her immediately without getting to know her but on the fact she has never shifted. Gavin is an alpha who has waited for his fated mate but she has no wolf and his mate that can’t shift let alone one with no family, so he reject her and now he has to choose a chosen mate. But his chosen mate who happen to be an evil adoptive sister.m Catrina who tell Gavin that they should kill their fated mate because sobthey can be together. so Gavin decide to break up with her.
Gavin find out Billie true parentage and what happen to them and the mystery of their disappering and who hurt them and why.
So weird how they dont have the individual book... it says book 1 in the cover but title indicates "Complete Series" which in the book, it in fact has all three books. i only read book 1 because it was the book which interested me but with how it went, i'm DEF not continuing. i was in the mood for some rejected shifter romance and when i saw this, it intrigued me but took a risk since this is the first time i read from this author. writing was a bit off? pacing was weird and felt a bit choppy. a lot of telling and no showing... and honestly can't connect with any characters... (but most likely due to writing)
-PNR werewolf shifter romance -rejected mates, gave cinderella-esque vibe (but with an evil adoptive dad & evil adoptive sister and brother situation), evil ow drama moment -has other kind of shifters like unicorn, dragons, etc.
I believe this book would have been better in an overall third person point of view. The story is about 3 couples and their different points of view over 3 sections of the plot. Billie & Gavin are only section 1.
As mentioned by another reviewer, the details of this story are not consistent. This was confusing for me as they were key details on my mind that I felt added to tension of the plot. Therefore, it was frustrating that details in section 1 were later retconned in section 2 or 3. For example, the number of wolves in Dalesbloom pack fluctuated several, or more times. If those details, and the others I’m thinking of, were better ironed out and consistent this story would get a solid 3 stars!
XXX! Adult content, reader discretion advised. Gavin and Billie, Everett and Aislin, Colt and Kiara all have their own live stories. None of them are meet cute. They are all fighting the same enemies. Though Colt is on the wrong side until the very end. An Alpha Wolf shifter and an Alpha Dragon shifter bent on exposing the paranormal world to humans and killing anyone who got in their way. The three couples all get their ever after, not necessarily a happily ever after though. They get a together every after. Oslo and Muriel are upsetting. Not a fan of their storyline.
The start of the Mythic Wars Alpha series starts off with a rejection between Gavin and Billie. While the world building is unique, there seems to be many things going on that set up the next installment before focusing on the outcome of Gavin and Billie's eventual outcome. This was an interesting first book and I look forward to the next one.

This story tells of three groups of shifters that was being chased and killed just so that one Alpha could change in to a liking have man and half monster, but his luck ran out as his son turned on him. As his soul mate was the daughter of a unicorn but she was also a highbread which God unicorn and wolf.I would like to say thank you for all your hard work and may fortune smile 😃on you always 😁from a bookworm that loves to read
“Catrina pulled me from my reverie as she sashayed toward us. She and I had been dating for three months, and, for a moment, I was distracted by how good her boobs looked in her low-cut vest top.” Book 2/3 says together for 5 years and changed their entire story.
“Because the fact was, I wouldn’t get my wolf under control until I’d found my fated mate. Catrina and I were having fun, but that was all it was. Somewhere out there was my true fated mate.”
This book includes three books that tells the story of three packs and a variety of shifters. Wolves, Dragons and unicorns. Mythguard are human organizations that protect the sanctity of shifters and the humans surrounding the packs and world. Love, action, drama, spice mate bonds and rejections are to be found in this book. Loved it! Difficult to put down. Can’t wait to start the next in this series.
Not much this one. The mate bond is basically very weak, the hero is dating the heroine sister, more beautiful and hotter. He rejects the heroine because she’s plain. Then there’s a plot with a unicorn and the heroine finds out she’s been kidnapped by her adoptive parents, and her adoptive father killed her parents. The hero accepts her. Weak, doormat heroine. Unremarkable hero. Double standards. Not safe.

I really enjoyed this wolf shifter storyline. the storyline and character development were excellent. I enjoyed the plot twists and turns and the unexpected unfolding of certain story lines. the narration was excellent. the narrator kept me engaged. the voice and tone were very easy to listen to and drew me into the storyline. I look forward to listening to book two and three when it becomes available as an audiobook . I received a free audible copy and give my honest review.
So this is technically 3 books in one which I was not expecting, since KU doesn’t present it that way. I loved the overall storyline and the continuation throughout each book, with the different main characters and POVs. There was just something about each couple’s struggles to accept their bonds that was lacking for me.
I'm 30% and I can't finish this. Fml is too weak for my liking. Honestly, the way I see it, if it wasn't for the "mate" thing, he wouldn't even look at her twice.
He's rude and rejects her, but all she daydream about is his body and delusionally thinks"her touch" calms him down.
The plot line was there ! The writing was good. I loved the addition of dragon and unicorn shifters. I just needed more development between the FMC and MMC. Wasn’t feeling it. Not only that, FMC forgave so easily. Like a beaten puppy wanting love. Which. Fair. She kinda was. However, I think MMC should have had to work for it more.

What is the point of the rejection if there is no grovel? The girl continues to pine over him after he humiliated her. Then he rejects her in a different way for a second time and all he says is sorry… I did not finish the rest of the book. I can’t stand FMC’s with no self respect making it seem like it’s okay to be treated badly.
