This is a handbook of the following biblical interpretation methods or source criticism, form criticism, redaction criticism, history of religions, rhetorical criticism, canon criticism, narrative criticism, reader-response criticism, feminist hermeneutics, and postcolonial hermeneutics. Each method is defined, a brief history and major proponents with their works are listed, some specific examples and methodologies with their value for interpretation are provided, and strengths and weaknesses of each method are examined. The notes are grouped under each major subheading of the method to facilitate easier synthesis of the material. The conclusion includes some benefits and dangers of historical criticism.
