About the author

Cheryl Schuermann enjoyed many years as a literacy consultant and curriculum trainer in schools across the U.S. After signing her first book contract in 2007, Cheryl was hooked and knew she wanted to develop as a multi-genre writer.

Her debut devotional, Farmhouse Devotions: God’s Glory in the Ordinary, won the 2025 SELAH Award in both Devotional and Audio Book categories. It also won the 2024 Golden Scroll Devotional Book of the Year and the 2025 Christian Indie Award.

Her other books include the award-winning parenting book co-authored with her husband, Stan, Raising Kids for Tomorrow’s World:12 Keys to Preserving the Faith. This book will re-release soon as a 2nd edition.

Cheryl is a leader in Word Weavers International and a member of Advanced Writers and Speakers Association (AWSA), Christian Authors Network/CIPA, and Blue Ridge Reader Connections. In addition to writing, Cheryl facilitates a caregiver support group in her community. For over two decades, she and her husband have mentored and taught parents in their local church. Cheryl spends as much time as possible with her family: four sons, four daughters-in-love, and thirteen grandchildren, ages 10-22. The family farm is her favorite place to write, play with family, and host ministry groups.

Practical and Encouraging Devotional

This devotional offers practical and immediately applicable messages to encourage one’s heart and to guide one along the right path to a firm and steady relationship with the Lord. Each chapter begins with a scripture verse and ends with a prayer. The titles of the chapters are inviting, giving a small clue as to what treasures will be found within those pages. Reading the book in just a few days was thought-provoking, but now I must admit that I want to go back and savor the wisdom found there. The stories of grandchildren playing on the farm, of rocking on the porch, of seeing birds enjoying a sprinkler are all vivid reminders that life is good and is to be cherished, with a legacy to pass along to those who follow in our footsteps. This book presents a loving look at life lived and shared with others, with all of its challenges and its triumphs. This is a devotional to read again and again and get new truths from it each time as the words are appealing and fresh just like God’s Word.

Perhaps because I am a Repurposed woman, I find myself this morning reading this devotion again. Cheryl Schuermann beautifully draws us into her world. She captures the joys of His creations, the value of repurposing old relics and God’s people. It is a book of gentle encouragement for the weary traveler. I did a deep dive on the first read. I'll take the time to savor on the next read.

What a wonderful way to start your day one end your evening. This is a beautifully written devotional that give wonderful imagery but also words that point you towards Jesus. The devotional is filled with Redemption, Restoration, and Repurposing themes. Whether you read one day at a time or read it as a book, you will be inspired and blessed. I've read many devotionals, but this one stands out. Cheryl Schuermann has the special talent of making deep ideas simple and accessible. She connects everyday life on the farm with spiritual lessons in a truly seamless way. This devotional feels like having a comforting chat with a wise friend over a cup of coffee.

"Farmhouse Devotions" has been a wonderful companion in my spiritual walk. It helped me connect with God in a busy season of life. I didn't want it to end!

What I love about this devotional book is the authentic stories of the author and her farmhouse. She sees God’s lessons woven into every corner, and it’s a refreshing way to start the day. From finding treasures in the old barn and sharing Grandma’s old recipes, to enjoying the early morning light, the birds singing, and another lesson from God. If you are looking for something different and inspiring, I highly recommend this book!

I took my leisurely time reading this book, one devotion every morning while sitting on my back porch and looking at the trees and flowers. Being a person who appreciates nature, the glory of the world God made, and finding a treasure in an antique store, I savored this book every day.

Now I can’t decide if I want to start again with devotion number one or delve into another book by this author. I might do both! I’m definitely going to purchase it as gifts for a few people.

Cheryl Schuermann's Farmhouse Devotions is fresh and inviting. The daily devos made me feel like a welcome guest at her family-and-dog-filled home.
