I shouldn’t have felt this way about her. She’s my brother-in-law’s first love.

Now I got to hurry up and start the next one.
This was my first Jahquel book and okayyyyy. There were some editing issues but the storyline was good.
Naheim….i was rooting for you….we ALL were rooting for you.

Jahquel definitely pulls you into this story from page one! Like damn Erin got a raw deal at the age of 17 and life as she knew it would never be the same! I truly admire Erin because even through grief she still made 💩 shake and didn’t make excuses. Her life’s path was different from what she planned and what her parents wanted for her but she played the hand she was dealt like a spades expert!
Erin had no idea that bumping into an old friend would have her linking up with the man that was going to apply FULL pressure and run down on her making his intentions crystal clear.

I wanted to make sure I read all 3 books before coming to give my review. I will be reposting this on every book
Please note I picked this book up 3 times to start This journey with the Delgato Family. At first I thought it was just my mood reading issue and I wasn’t in the mood for the book even though Black Urban Crime Families are hands down my guilty pleasure.
Blurb: Erin is the survivor of the murder suicide of her parents. She becomes the guardian and provider of her little brother. This story follows her journey of raising a teen brother while living in the hood, struggle and finding the ultimate love from a forbidden source… it’s a journey getting to that tho…
After completing book 1 I realized it wasn’t me and my mood that couldn’t process this first book, book 1 simply just didn’t grab me. I was at 59% of book one and my head was hurting I felt like it was a constant repeat of the same scene over and over. It wasn’t until 89% of Book one that the plot started to form. I can’t speak for everyone else but for me that’s entirely too long to captivate someone to keep reading 2 more books. But there was the cliff hanger and that alone forced you to book 2 bc now you are invested bc you spent 350+ pages waiting on them to get to the point.
In Book 2 the pace picked up and more and more drama started to unfold. However the book again was on a constant repeat of words. Many new plots, secrets, and twist were revealed but I felt like I was waiting and holding my breath for them to get to the point of bridging the gaps, so here we are at 75% of book 2 before things start to finally make sense, and plots start having a bit of closure but that cliff hanger yet again held you in the grips for the next book.
Book 3 was where things finally started to take shape and it was less taking and more action! This is where I finally saw the depths of each character the lessons learned and the sacrifices from everyone mentioned! This is where I fell in love with Capone, he was about ACTION in book 3 something flipped in him and everything you new he could be he became when the threats of his family were in the balance. The female characters strength and resilience were put on page and the relationship building and character development was phenomenal.
I will end with saying this. Patience is needed to truly enjoy this series bc the repetitive banter in books 1 & 2 were exhausting, book 3 was much much better but now I’m trying to decide if I want to go on this journey again with Cappadona

too repetitive (somewhat spoiler)
Honestly the only reason I’m gonna read part two is 1. I don’t have to wait since it’s out already and 2. Because I Iike Capo and Erin. The build up of the relationship was nice and it was truly authentic.
The problem is that the author repeated herself soooo much in this story that it literally became irritating. She could have gotten to the climax earlier in the story if it wasn’t for the repeating. I don’t like it when authors pile drama on top of drama on top of drama. It takes away from the relationship. Part 2 seems as if it’s just going to be a bunch of drama and we won’t get much more of the relationship between the couples. I hope we not about to ruin a somewhat decent story in part 2. The ending wasn’t that shocking to me, I figured he was gonna be one of their sons (capo or naheim).
On to the next part I guess.

chile lemme just say… this book pissed me off so bad😭 *kind of a spoiler so warning*
capone gave me the ick, naheim is a womanizer, jaiden is an ungrateful lil brat, timmy is an asshat, the grammatical and spelling issues were hard to overlook, it was so wordy and repetitive, the damn plot was so confusing and nothing interesting happened until the literal END OF THE BOOK?! now i love me a good urban read but oh my gosh i could not even begin to enjoy this book except for erins story and her pov’s. maybe the other books get better but… i am doubtful.

It was an ok book. However, Capone was too possessive and somewhat abusive, in my opinion. He also fell for Erin too fast, and there should have been more build-up instead of love at first site. It was too unrealistic for me.

Am I reading book two while also writing this review? Absolutely because what the fuck is going on here! I thought Demon’s Dream (great standalone) had me in a chokehold, but now I need to come up for air. The essay review in my head is too much, so let me speak about each character.
Capone – Hey Daddy! lol no but for real, your past runs deep and long and I do mean that a little on the sexual side too. You should have dealt with Trilla a long time ago. Your loyalty to Capadonna and family is everything. I hope you keep your boundaries with Ella now, but do not trust her!!! baby mother or not, that is a shady come up bitch!. Lastly, I love the way you love Erin and how you guys are both vulnerable about your illnesses and yet you both are so strong.
Capri – I am so excited for your series, girl, you just do not know! What I do hope is that you are the one to shoot Ella, and you give Naheim hell for a long time.
Erin – You are strong, sweet, loyal, and are doing your best! I am just sorry your brother has to learn things the hard way, and I wish you would not blame yourself, but I know you have some healing to do I just feel like you are about to start busting heads, and I am here for i.

4.5 ⭐️ | I have yet to read a Jahquel J book that I did not throughly enjoy! I loved this story and can’t wait to dive into books 2 & 3 as well as meet the rest or the Delgato family! Meet Erin, a young lady thrown into adulthood way to soon being forced to raise her baby brother Jaiden, after their parents demise! They move in with their aunt & cousin and although their aunt begged her to be a kid, she felt responsible for her brother and took charger of his day to day activities. Erin has had a rough go at it since the death of her parents, but when she meets Capone, will she allow him to rescue them or push him away out of fear. When Jaiden gets older patience is tested, as she fights to keep her brother out of the streets.
Highly recommend & the way this book ended will have you immediately wanting more as it definitely ended with a draw dropping shocker! Up next… Book 2

I absolutely loved the dynamic between Capone and Erin. The slow burn of their relationship was so well done, and it’s clear how deeply Capone cares for her. I can’t wait to read more about their journey, and I’m really hoping they get the happy ending they deserve. The ending completely took me by surprise—I had to get up from my seat! I never saw that twist coming. This book has my full attention, and I’ll definitely be continuing the series.

Yes I’m just now starting the series but now that I’m here!!! I ain’t going nowhere. I’m fully locked in. I love the chemistry between Erin & Capone. The fact they're both beautifully flawed but only see the best in one another is what kept me drawn to them as the story unfolded.
Erin’s been left with a heavy load and is trying to maneuver through it the best she can but struggles. Every woman wants to experience the soft girl era & Capone gives her a glimpse at that.
This story has some intertwined conflicts & I just know I’m in for a long ride.
What I love about Jaquel is this isn’t just typical urban fiction. It has depth in addition to the allure.
All I can say is better late than never. 5 stars 🌟 for sure.

Baby the way Jahquel J. Grabbed me by the throat and rung me around and around with this book!!! Lord I can’t take it. There is so much deception and gutta nonsense !!! Lord I just can’t take it. Capone & Erin!!!! Baby ain’t nothing like a man that’s not gone ask you but tell you!!! And then follow up and show you!!!! lord I’m hooked !!! And don’t get me started on the damn cliff hangers!!!!

WHEWWW! Capone got me CHEESING ya hear me!! 😂 we love a strong confident black man but WOW! Those last few chapters, I already knew what was about to unfold, let me go ahead and get the other two books because what we can’t do is leave it how it ended!

This book was dragged out for too long. The author said it’s a slow burn; how about no burn! 😴 The book didn’t get good until they introduced Trilla’s view - 90% into the book! The cliff hanger is really good and makes you want to read book 2 but idk yet, I have to sleep on it 🤭
