Her past made her the enemy. The way he loved her made them a target.
Kamille just wants to move on from her rumored past. She’s had a target on her back since before she was born, and after a scandal puts her at the top of everyone’s most hated list, it only gets bigger. The people who despise her don’t care about her claim of innocence. They only care about keeping her away from anyone they love, and that includes Malik Brand.
Malik doesn’t play by the rules. Especially when the rules involve staying away from Kamille Jansen. But his family wants him to do just that. Their hatred for her runs deep, and they make sure everyone knows it. Despite their objections, Malik isn’t willing to turn off his feelings just to please them. He knows what he wants, and he’s determined to get it. But his family isn’t the only thing standing in his way. Kamille is a stubborn woman and pushing him away has become her routine. She refuses to allow her stained reputation to rub off on him, and she doesn’t want to cause problems between him and his family.
But Kamille’s attempt to keep them apart only pulls them closer together, and before they know it, they’re no longer in control. Fate has all the power, and they’re forced to make their minds align with their hearts. But making that decision comes with a price, and no matter what, it’s a price they’ll have to pay.
If these mother's don't get a life and get on with it, I am going to have to start removing them from the story completely. How are these parents still trying to bully their grown children. Thank goodness, my parents didn't have helicopter tendencies. Anyway..... Malik rekindled a relationship with Kam after terrible rumors surfaced because her employer closed the office in a scandal. His sister and mother were the driving force behind the citywide hatred. The couple seemed to be doing fine until the mother's hatred spilled into a plot to get her children (grown ones) under her thumb. The drama is deep, the storyline is messy, and the love parts will keep you hoping for a happy ending for Kam and Malik.
This was my first book by ac Taylor and when I tell you I am an instant fan I am an instant fan! This book was a ride. The drama. The secrets. The spice. Whew I shall be back for more!
His mom was trash over something she didn't know anything about and took it out on Kamille like how low could you go at her big age. Anyway I loved Kamilles mom she did not play about her child. I honestly wished the whole scandal got wrapped up and we got to see them together more and living as a couple and having some children instead of the nonsense with the mom and sister for majority of the book but it was good so I'm not too upset but I do need a little novella of them for the 4th of July hosting their friends and family announcing the wedding and a baby lol.
I was here for the story with Kamille and Malik. Mom and sister were straight trippin. While this was a good story it was just blah at times, and I was so tempted to lose interest in it. If it wasn't for the mom and daughter having drama with them all the time, I probably would've lost interest quicker.
The story was all over the place. And with not enough character development I found myself not being invested. I skimmed the final three chapters so I wouldn’t DNF. But for me this was mid.
AC knows how to write some messy behind parents! Mama Brand was a piece of WORK! Solid love story, I like that Kam and Malik were able to drown out the noise. Short and easy.
I wanna preface my review by saying A. C. Taylor did an amazing job with “Deep in My Feelings”. So amazing that I’m beefed out with all of these fictional ass characters lol. Malik, Aries, their mama, Dennis, and the whole town are on my shit list.
I guess this book would be categorized as a forbidden love? There was a Romeo-and-Juliet type of feel to it, but with grown ass people and the beef was one-sided.
I liked that Malik fought to be with Kamille but this 🥷🏾 didn’t think shit through. Kamille was trying to tell him what the consequences would be if they actually got together but as Aries would say, Malik was blinded by the p*ssy. He wasn’t trying to hear shit Kamille was saying cause in his mind, if they wanted to be together then they should. Then Malik had the nerve to be dumbfounded when the stuff that Kamille said would happen happened 😒
Another thing I’ll give Malik credit for is how he laid pipe. Malik and Kamille did some f*cking in this book, and each time, Kamille was pleased. That’s it though. I can’t think of anything else I liked about Malik.
Kamille became my friend in my head, and I was right along with her mama and Tierra when they wanted to kick ass behind her. Kamille came off as a peace maker who would go toe-to-toe if the right buttons were pushed. She was also pretty emotionally intelligent.
Kamille’s patience and strength are also something to be admired cause babyyy. I would’ve been left Malik, told him f*ck his sister and his mama, let my mama whoop some ass, started something back up with Raheem, and moved. Sunstone Bay isn’t the only city in the world, and Malik isn’t the only man.
ENTERING SPOILERS
First things first, I really wanted to know what Kamille did/didn’t do that had everybody and their mama not liking her. Since it was vague in the synopsis, I decided to read this book. Now, I’m not in the high siddity streets so my opinion might be ignorant, but their reason for not liking Kam is so f*cking dumb.
Kamille didn’t do what they assumed she did but if she did, so what? If Kamille wanted to pop her poonani for some change and did it, that would be her business. When it was revealed that the women of the town thought Kamille slept with their men (instead of single men), their hate made more sense. But still. Be mad at your man. Not her.
Which leads me to Malik’s dusty ass mama. Girl you did all this shitty stuff for over *three* decades because you *assumed* yo man cheated on you in college???! Girl, grow tf up and get some confidence. 😒 Instead of leaving that 🥷🏾, you wanna go around making everybody else life hell for THREE DECADES. Disrespectfully, go to hell.
I’m teetering on the line of telling Aries to go to hell too. Aries got on my nerves almost as much as her got damn mama.
This book was filled with drama and it kept my attention and had me reading it straight through. Malik and Kamille were a perfect match and were so cute together. I loved how they decided to be together regardless of what others thought or how they tried to keep them apart. They almost let pride and fear win, but their love for each other outweighed both.
All the drama came from the sub characters, especially Malik’s mama. She could definitely kick rocks with her bitter self. I was glad to see his sister come around and get out her feelings and get to know Kam instead of letting their mother poison her thoughts and having her thinking the worst about Kam. I loved Grandma Glo and Kam’s mom. They were both some spitfires and didn’t take any mess.
Overall, I enjoyed this book from beginning to end and would recommend this read.
“What we have is stronger than anything and anyone. When we decided to take this ride, we promised that we wouldn’t allow anything to come between us. "
Malik made my head hurt! I get it. This was a tough pill 💊 to swallow, but he pursued Kam and then ran. He was too hot & cold for me to connect to this romance .
His mother was the devil. That is a long time to hold a grudge and the lengths she went to!
Kami than me. That must have been some 😈 D because no sane individual would willingly sign up for that.
Her entire world was a dumpster fire, and she was like, " I hope Malik and his family name are ok and not tainted by my reputation 🤦🏾♀️.
Malik's dynamic with his best friend was weird at best.
This was a good read for me reading about Malik and Kam’s quest to stay together regardless of the circumstances stacked against them. Deandra worked my nerves being so evil and controlling towards her own kids to the point that I don’t even see what Cecil sees in her. I so wanted Serita to go in harder into Deandra for her setting up and trying to defame Kam on her special night. I was glad when Aries came from under her thumb. I know some people would probably say that Aries should’ve given Raheem another chance but looking at it from her perspective he lied to her when he withheld information about his whole connection to Kam. It was bad enough that Kam didn’t give Malik full disclosure but at least they finally got on the same page to get their own HEA.

I loved how Malik loved Kam. I loved their dynamic and how they cared about each other even during all the drama. I was so disappointed in Malik at one point but I was also disappointed in Kamille as well. I def would’ve liked to see the mama be a touch more gracious when everything came out because she was a cluster f of a mess. However I love how it ended. You definitely don’t have to live with toxic people no matter who it is, and you shouldn’t ever put yourself in a position to live like that if you don’t want to. This was so good. I was locked in on GO!! I can’t wait for another AC banger. Definitely recommend!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5|🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I really enjoyed this story! It was filled with drama but not toxic humor. Malik’s mother was very bitter and definitely needs therapy pronto. I loved how the couple navigated the backlash that came from their relationship. I did wish towards the end Malik did a little more groveling too!
Overall I enjoyed this story and would recommend! 💖
Honestly I was not really feeling this one. I felt like it was rushed. No proof of anything really as far as the scandal, the characters didn’t really speak to me. If anything the drama wasn’t really drama. I was skimming it after a while because it just didn’t do it for me. I’ve read other books from the author so I know they have some fire material but this one just wasn’t it for me.
The title of this book definitely describes the story within. With a storyline that has drama, secrets, lies, and family dysfunction. This read is so messy. With the likeable, interesting characters that are being drawn apart by someone else's feelings is crazy. The book is definitely worth the read.
This author never fails to create great characters! This was a good read from the beginning until the end. Everything is not as it appears and where most books are predictable love stories this one had a few twists I didn’t expect and somethings I expected didn’t happen.
Good read. Although Kam and Malik doesn’t wow me as a couple it truly fit the title because everyone was deep in their feelings! The mama, the sister, Kam, Malik,Dennis …literally everyone😩
This was a good read Kam just had a target on her back because of missed placed jealousy from Malik’s mother I wished his father Cecil would have stepped up to his wife more and put a stop to her shenanigans but I love grandma and Kams mom they held no punches
What’s for you is for you and everyone else can kick rocks. I loved the energy that Malik brought straight from the beginning. That mama though. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
A gripping and beautifully written story that kept me on edge the whole time. The author’s ability to weave together complex themes and emotions is truly impressive. It’s one of those rare books that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading.
Malik was definitely his mother’s son. Even at the end her toxic behavior guide him in his relationship. Kam needed to be more firm and find someone better.
Wow🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽loved it full of action pack sequences of what going happen next love the flow of characters chemistry off the change yesssss one of my favorite 😍
