Absolutely not - incredibly disappointing
Having a character be responsible for another character's torture, and they are sooo adorable that no consequences and in fact they get rewarded instead?
No thank you.
Our real world lacks accountability, which is why there is so much suffering.
This book seriously pissed me off.
And I was SO looking forward to it, I was so happy when I got it!
Unfortunately, this marks the end for me as far as the author is concerned.

I don't know if it was the story or just my interest that went down with this book. But I was so ready for it to be over. If she does continue the series, I probably won't keep up with it though.

Despite the character sheet and recap, still took a while to get back into the story. Going to need to do a re-read at some point. The family is growing. The balance is changing and Bellamy needs a HEA. Other than that the family gives zero * when their loved ones are involved. I almost felt sorry for the opportunist kidnappers. Curious about the next one.

Always enjoyable catching up with the antics of Romily and Fox but personally I'm just waiting for Bellamy to finally get his story 😂
I do like how Romily keeps adopting family members though, they'll have enough people to sit at all of Fox's tables soon! Also it always surprises me when we get reminded of exactly how young Romily is in comparison to the other characters! I always forget he's only in his early twenties 😂

I love this crazy group of friends/family so much. Each book is zanier than the last. Romily just keeps pulling more and more people into his sphere of influence. Sometimes it's a lot to keep up with all the characters and their relationships. Can't wait for the next one.

Ultimately, the last two books in this series just didn't live up to the first two. Were they fun? Absolutely. I still had a great time reading them. I really enjoy the very dysfunctional found family we have going on with the Foxilys. I love how Romily keeps meeting people and just claiming them as his. I love the unquestionable acceptance that these characters have. They are unapologetically their weird selves, and I'm here for it. I'm sad to see this series end, but it's definitely time. Now, I just really want to see Bellamy get his own story.

The Foxily clan is back and continues to expand their family, picking up strays along the way. The mystery of the missing ring is finally concluded, and yep, it's as chaos as you come to expect from this family. Things are yet again changing to achieve the balance of good and evil, leaving it up to the Foxily family to help. So sit back and enjoy the chaos we have come to know and love for this series.

these books are so fucking fun. stupid as hell nonstop fun. after being let down by the lack of addressing romily's sexual abuse at the hands of santanos in previous books, i appreciated there being a fair amount of conversation and plot addressing bellamy's kidnapping and torture.

I F’LOVE THE FOXILYs!!! This series keeps getting better and better! In this book, Romily gets a new best friend (a cherub) and they investigate the whos and whys of Bellamy’s abduction and incarceration. I have to admit, my favorite part is when Romily meets Sterling (and , yes, Romily finds out what happened to his ring)!
There’s a bit of violence when several parents are unalived as well as a few others that we’re not sad to see no longer ‘among the living’. There are also several new additions to the Foxily family!
And BONUS, MY NAME IN A BOOK!

While I loved the whimsical aspect of this story for the first few novels, I really struggled to find joy in this after what happened to Bellamy got brushed under the rug. To find out that one of the main characters in this book was responsible for him being imprisoned for hundreds of years, and not only did they not face any repercussions, but they were welcomed into the family, was really disappointing. I don’t feel like the moments of “retribution” were enough to truly atone for what he went through.
On top of that, the all over the place, fourth wall breaking aspect of the series really lost me in this one. There was just so much going on that I constantly had to put the book down to try to reassess where I was in the story. At this point, I will likely read the last installment for no other reason than to figure out Fox’s obsession with tables.
Part of me also is interested in Bellamy’s spinoff series purely because out of all the characters in the series, he deserves a happy ending the most. Part of me hopes that we would witness a true intense processing of what he went through, but based on how it was handled in the last two books, I highly doubt it. I guess we’ll see what happens next.

I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was another good addition to the Murder Sprees & Mute Decrees Series. These books must be read in order. You’ll should also read The Adventures of Sterling Jones in between books 3 & 4, as it’s a side quest and you get to meet Jethro, Sterling (Bellamy’s cousin) and Sterling’s best friend Hennessy who feature in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed immersing myself in this world that Jennifer has created.
It has similar vibes to Alice Winters Hitman’s Guide Series, especially with the humour and the characters antics. Romily’s back to narrating again during this book, just like in books 1 & 2. I absolutely love the found family that they’re creating and I can’t wait to get more of them during the next book. I think Bellamy is going to do great in his new position, even though he’s not happy about it. I did find that this book ended rather abruptly and I’m going to have to wait and get the answers to the questions that I still have. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.

For some reason, at some point, I dropped this book at around 43%...
But, I am glad to report that I just finished it all while not knowing what the heck was going on... 🤦♀️
Rather than give myself a headache trying to figure out what I should be remembering, I am just going to jump right into The Trouble With Trying to Bag a Blood Witch and hope for the best!!!
Oh, and I totally wouldn't want to be Apophis right about now... just sayin'!

I do like following these characters although they can sometimes be tiring.
Loving all the texting and the fact that there was a spell which gave Romilly a voice if only for a short while. It will be interesting to see if that becomes permanent.

I have NOT been good at keeping up with my top author's latest releases...for a while. It's hard keeping up when you just keep adding more authors to the list and keep adding more ARCs to your other list and have to work for a living (boo). There was DEFINITELY some catch up when I jumped back into this series. It's pure crack, but like with all good crack, it's slightly unhinged. I had to go re-read blurbs and covers to remember who was who, who was in love with who, and who was "related"/related to who. Few things stood out though: still soooo fucking obsessed with Romily.
And if you're ever feeling bad about yourself, think of Romily. He never thinks bad about himself, because he knows he's a survivor, a treasure, and perfect just the way he is. And he won't let anyone (even someone who kidnapped him) think poorly of themselves either.
And can we go back to the crack?! This book!!!??? D: I can't! It's funny and ridiculous and wholesome and unhinged and heartwarming. And how we got all of the summaries and backtracking, the whole meta-ness of it all, here. for. it.

I absolutely love this series and this author. Jennifer Cody is probably one of the wittiest, sassiest authors I've come across and her writing style makes for some really enjoyable reads. She is also great at world-building and this universe is wonderfully complex. There are a lot of characters and a lot of moving parts to keep track of. I had to refer to the character list at the beginning of the book a few times to help me keep everyone straight, but that is likely because it had been a while since I'd visited Romily's world.
I have my doubts that many (or any) other authors could write a mute MC with as much sass and personality as Romily has, and all the other characters for that matter. Romily makes his feelings clear and everyone else falls in line! He isn't afraid to use his Fox to get his way!
I really enjoy the differences in personalities of all the characters and how the dynamics shift in each book. Sometimes, I struggle with a series that has the same MCs facing new adventures because the romance goes stale or the new adventures become more contrived than fun. Not the case here. This series is highly entertaining and the relationship between Fox and Romily is still fresh and swoony. As Romily said, they're still in their honeymoon phase.
Definitely read the books in order and read all of them before this one. It is not a standalone! But the series and the author are well worth the investment. Once you delve into this chaotic world, you're not going to want to leave.

Tbh I don’t even know why I read this book…
I guess I wanted to see where it all ended up, but seriously, what a dissatisfying ending. Like, so dissatisfying that I had to go back and reread the last 30 pages to make sure I hadn’t skipped something, but no, it was just disappointing.
The plot (or lack thereof) was all building towards something (to not be spoilery: basically the reveal of a character being someone very important, akin to the chosen one) and then they just completely forgot about it at the end and moved on? Like, the end basically goes, “Who is the chosen one we need?” and the other characters are like, “LMAO I don’t know, anyway…” Like, what even was the point of this book?
There were a few interesting moments in this book, and I do enjoy some of the characters, which is why I bothered to read this in the first place, but the world the author has created has gotten too convoluted and is poorly executed. I wish we had slowed down and focused on some of the serious plot points and character arcs, rather than breezing through a new location and cast of wacky side characters every chapter. I don’t think I’ll be picking up anymore books in this series, unless I’m super bored.

I adore this series so much!!!
The Foxily crew is back! I have been looking forward to this pretty much since I finished the last page of the last book. I absolutely adore this series and this was another great addition. Rom and Fox are adorable together as always and Fox finally tells Romily what happened to his ring (I’ll admit, I worried for Sterling for a second there). There’s also just a little world saving/universe correcting going on in the background (just the usual for these guys) as well as the counties collection of family members. At this point I’m not entirely sure the whole planet won’t somehow end up as part of the Foxily clan. Lots of fun things were set in motion that I’m really looking forward to in the next book plus we got some realllly satisfying resolutions for certain undesirable people who keep thinking they have the right to be awful. I love the balance of violence, sweetness, filth and hilarity that Cody pulls off with each of these books. It’s fun and lighthearted but does casually deal with some heavier topics. There's plenty of action, snark and sassiness as I've come to expect from Romily and his cohort. There's lots of group texting between them all which is often highly amusing and also sweet at times. This time they are trying to find the Avatar of Neutrality, a force that helps balance the Avatar of Evil and The Avatar of Good and one that has been forgotten about and nearly wiped from existence for hundreds of years. There are kidnappings, murder, changes in power, magic and new family members amidst all the chaos that is Murder Sprees and Mute Decrees and it was a hell of a ride. Oh, and Romily finally finds out what happened to his ring and Fox makes good on giving him a rock for his finger.
I can't wait for the final book in this series, though I will be sad to say goodbye to this crazy family.

“The Trouble With Trying to Hook a Harbinger” by Jennifer Cody is the 4th book in the Murder Sprees and Mute Decrees series which needs to be read in order (I also recommend reading “The Adventure of Sterling Jones: A Murder Sprees and Mute Decrees Sidequest” before this one since it is part of the world and a lot of fun.)
As with all the books in the series, this book is packed with snark and sass, morally gray characters, humor, violence, and shenanigans. Like with the other books, Romily adopts more people (not surprising,) people who need to die end up dead, and the Foxily’s learn more about what’s going on in their world. Also, some world wide and more personal mysteries are solved.
I don’t think I can truly express how much I enjoyed this book and how much I love the series. There is just something about the way they are written and the creativity behind the plots and characters, plus the amazing world building, that make them some of the most fun books I’ve read.
I was given a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Romilly is just the best. Being back in his world was such a blast. There's a lot packed into this books with the Foxily's growing as Romilly adopts more members.
I can't say all who get adopted because of spoilers! Needless to say, it's done with love and consent because Romilly is big on that.
Plenty of spice between Fox and Romilly, who are so in love. I adore their arc in this book and what is coming next for them.
More information on Romilly after his kidnapping. He's a unique character with how he deals with his disability. Fox speaking for him, the robo voice, texting. It's all done so well. The telepathy between him and Fox works fantastically.
There's a cameo from the Sterling book, but I wouldn't say you need to have read that one to enjoy it. Most of the appearance is explained.
Such a diverse cast of characters. I'm going to need a glossary to keep them all right in my head.

We're back at it again with Romily's POV and his frustration with not yet being engaged to Fox (and trying to figure out why). Further hilarity and action ensue when the abundant characters all interact and interfere with one another. Though we're only given the POV from Romily, there's no shortage of character inclusion and mention. I think, similar to how the magic feels, that Romily is indeed a kind of glue that holds his vastly growing family together.
There was so much to learn and unpack in this book. It almost needs a reread to absorb more, at least on my end. I'm sure it might make it easier to keep all of the magical details straight. I'm really interested to see how the updated council plays out with the new, but known, players installed in several positions.
I greatly enjoyed this book in the Murder Sprees series, but you definitely need to read the books prior otherwise there will be far too many questions regarding who is who, and even why they're all doing what they do.

A 3000 year old conspiracy, dastardly ring thieves, an abduction by elves, cute little cherubs who are old as dirt, more about what happened to Bellamy, a jailbreak, and Romily and Fox getting serenaded by an actual siren. Good stuff, but I'm going to have to wait for my next fix until sometime next year. According to the author:
So. Darcy finding love before our beloved son Bellamy? Boo. But Bellamy kicking off a whole new spin off series? Yay!
I have a couple of projects for the summer months and then we will be getting back to back MSMD books: Darcy needs to accept his fate—and his mate—and then Romily and Fox have a wedding to plan and execute. That will be the end of this series, and then we will get to find out what happens when Bellamy finally meets the man whose dreams he’s going to make come true. No, I still haven’t decided who he’s going to end up chasing. There’s so many possibilities. Anyway, that will be a spin off series for 2025.

Story time with my favourite Harbinger
I love how ridiculous these books are. Romily is so loveable and I adore the way he is able to convey his emotions, thoughts and wants without having a voice.
These books are so easy to read and escape life for a little bit. They make me laugh out loud at the banter and how Romily just takes people into his family, however begrudgingly they come to accept it, they always do.
It was fun meeting all the new characters and the change in the magic. Also learning more about what actually happened to Romily as a baby. It's a shame his stepfather went out way before Romily met Fox, I would have liked to see what he would have done. I think the series is finished now but it would have been fun if the Foxily's could have taken a trip to the underworld and dealt some much needed punishment in the stepfathers afterlife.
Looking forward to reading the next one.

The Trouble With Trying to Hook a Harbinger is the 4th book in the Murder Sprees and Mute Decrees series. In my opinion this is not a standalone but is best read in order. We are back with the Foxliy's again and boy did I miss them. If you haven't read it yet I suggest you read The Adventure of Sterling Jones: A Murder Sprees and Mute Decrees Sidequest as some of the characters show up. We get to see Romily adopt more family members. I love the snark and attitude in the story. Jennifer Cody continues to amaze me with her writing. This series has become one of my favorite comfort reads and I know I will reread this book because it is as good as the rest. I love all the things that I didn't see coming that happened in the book. I would definitely recommend this book and series. This is a book I wish I could give more than 5 stars but since I can't it will get 5 stars.

Last year while scrolling through book selections on Kindle I stumbled upon the beautifully chaotic universe of Murder Sprees and Mute Decrees. Once I started reading I could not stop and I had no choice but to fall in love with all the characters, even Gregory 😬! With this information… what was a girl to do but jump at the chance to obtain an arc of The Trouble With Trying to Hook a Harbinger (the 4th book in the series), I was even willing to make a blood contract with Darcy just to see what was happening with the Foxiliy’s and the case of the missing engagement ring. While reading this book I giggled, laughed, and even teared up a little bit at the end. I absolutely love everything about this series, it is fun, fast paced and refereeing to read.
