Hi! Welcome to my Goodreads. Can I just say I'm so happy you're here? I don't know if you're here for funzies or for a paper you have to write or maybe a theory video or article you're working on. Either way, thanks for coming, and let's get into the nitty-gritty.
I've been writing since I was ten years old. I wrote my first 700+ book when I was eleven. I started these games as almost fan fiction that morphed into the Custod world I use for most of my stories today.
I specialize in fairytale retellings in more dramatic than fantastical styles, dealing with more political or the struggle of war angles than in pure wonder, but I make sure to have a healthy (whoops too much) dose of romantic and hopeful elements as well. I feel stories should help us learn about relationships, people, the world around us, and teach us hope in how to handle the horrors life can dish out in a healthy, enjoyable escapist type of way. That's why I like young adult styles because it allows more exploration of learning than adult styles.
Some of my favorite books include Harry Potter, The Selection, Michael Vey, Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games, and lots more, but that should give you a feel for the styles I like. I'm also into classics like Shakespeare, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Phantom of the Opera, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Lord of the Rings (as hey it's a classic too). I struggled with reading as a child. I loved it but found it hard so audiobooks were my main way of stepping into new worlds. Still an audiobook fan!
I wrote my first book, the rough version of Rising during my teen years, and published it while in college. It has since been republished and revamped as The Custod Chronicles Rising. I had plenty of time to learn my craft because I was homeschooled and so integrated my passion for writing with my studies. I graduated from Brigham Young University - Idaho with a degree in Media Marketing with a minor in English to help further my writing dreams.
I currently live in Weed, CA where I write most every day, watch lots of YouTube and movies, enjoy going to a musical now and then, and hone my passion for ballroom dancing. To learn more check out some of my blogs, and social media pages, or if you have a question about a theory or paper you're working on, shoot me a message and I'll get back to you asap.
Finally we get a victory lap, though not without some bumps! Phew, after four torturous Enthronement books, Kascia and Gavril finally get to be together. I was relieved this wasn't another drawn out story with the wedding at the very end.
The developments were believable, and I was relieved that most of the drama came from outside their relationship, which is so nice because after so much time together, they can actually face the world rather than having misunderstandings.
The goodbyes were hard...first Damian and Cedric, and then Sage and Zelda. It felt like the end of an era, though again, reasonable if we want our lovebirds to set out on their own. I hope Bella can work out her personal issues working as Kascia's new attendant, because I'd hate to see her go. Also I appreciated the reintroduction of some Chosen, good and bad.
As with previous books, I enjoyed the story, though I remain confused by the frequently clunky prose. At this point, I have to think it's a style choice. Also, I think Gavril and Kascia's physical moments pre-marriage go too far, "flirting with the line" as the author describes, which is ironic because after they get married those scenes essentially fall off.
The ending was satisfying but left a big enough cliffhanger to get me excited for the next book!
“Let the games begin” My head is spinning as much as our heroine’s! Kascia’s frustration about her new roles (yes, plural) and excessive responsibilities (in number & suddenness) as the soon-to-be Princess Consort comes as a shock to her. It’s one thing to learn about etiquettes & protocols; it’s quite another to train additional personal staff, learn the palace personnel roles & names, design her princess suite, plan her royal wedding… in addition to figuring out which type of princess she will be (the prince’s hostess, a political wife, and/or the people’s princess). All without Damian having her six… ☹ ‘I was never the backstage girl. I wore the dress and used the sets; I was a dancer, an actress. I took action, not… planning and preparing like this. I didn’t sell the life I’d wanted at least three times to become a glorified party planner. I signed on to help my people as princess and marry the one I loved, not just be bound to a coworker.’
Kascia goes from one type of performance to another (from stage to press conferences): ‘The kinds of things most people get to hide in their closets as skeletons to dance only in their private nightmares’ Oh! Then the herding vipers with the assignments handed out to the former Chosen. No thank you! I’d love to be a princess (banquets & balls), but the administrative tasks and the palace politics are just soooooo not for me. More power to Kascia for seeing this through so that she can do more good in the world.
Fave lines: ‘All endings mean a better beginning is already on its way.’ ‘I am the true princess, and that just means queen-in-waiting, and I am done waiting.’
Next in series for me is ‘The Emboldened’ (before picking back up with the upcoming ‘The Enthroned’).
I received this book free as a Beta reader for review.
Another great entry into the Enthronement Saga! Picking up right where the last ended, Kascia and Gavril now must navigate the end of the Enthronement and the changes it brings to their relationships, planning a wedding, and all that royal life for Kascia will now entail.
This book perhaps has less action than the previous books, more focused on the emotional toll all these changes take on Kascia. It is still clean (closed door married couple romance , not even close to being explicit, no language). It was fun to have cameos of all the previous Chosen girls and to see how Kascia fits into her new role as the True Princess. I'm excited to read the next book as it comes out!
I cried so many times, I laughed and then it ended and I felt empty. I can't wait until the next book and I'm so sad I have to wait. This series is everything. And I plan on obtaining hard copies for my trophy shelf.
