Once again, Campbell delivers a STUNNING performance!

No extra explanation points this time. No over-the-toppness or being overly effusive…. Isabelle Campbell’s work speaks for itself, and LOUDLY at that.

I’m going to be honest… when I reach the fight scenes in 90% of the stories I read, I don’t so much “skip” them as maybe read only every fifth or sixth word… They just don’t interest me beyond perhaps an intellectual appreciation for the choreography involved and how detailed the image of the fight must be in the author’s mind. Not so with Campbell.

Campbell’s writing is rife with so much detail, and it’s truly beautiful. We feel with the characters and we see with their eyes. But no one sees everything, and so some mysteries obviously remain. Her stories are balanced from word one through the end.

Again as it is her writing that roots us in her characters, so it all feels perfectly natural and the characters’ interactions and reactions very true to life. She neither forces an issue nor does she coerce the reader into accepting some bizarre plot point.

AND most importantly, she has consistently foregone the use of that most hated of authorial devices, the cliffhanger, nor its thrice more evil cousin, the gratuitous cliffhanger. For this alone we should all throw flower petals in her path so … ok, I lost that one, but you get the idea…. Many of us despise cliffhangers and she has avoided them so far so we are grateful.

As for this book, itself? Utterly stunning. Every time I finish one of these I am CRAVING, like a pothead with the munchies craves French fries, that’s how much I’m craving the next book. In her hands, these characters and their lives, no matter how odd or paranormal they may be, are just so relatable that we find ourselves (to steal another of her lines from the second book) wanting to keep walking and take another trip around the block one more time, just to delay going inside, so that we can continue the conversation.

Stacie has found a old enemy, Victor. a sleazy billionaire trying to take over her town.

Stacie is trying to learn everything she can of the magic she has finally inherited. She has gathered her friends closer and is fighting the corruption and evil that has been growing since her father withdrew from people and her mother died. Her friend and caretaker, Rowen has brought two of his friends into their circle to help train her and to be extra guardians for Stacie as she grows and developes.
But as she defends the weak and oppressed she finds her way being blocked at every turn by a sleazy billionaire with hints of dark magic. When he attacks her home its time to do something. The doing is the tale that catches you in and won’t let you stop reading till this part is complete. Have fun reading.

Drake Defense

This series keeps getting better. The characters continue to evolve and develop, especially Stacy. I like how she is gradually getting better with her powers and magic. The two new characters are both interesting and I hope to learn more about them in future books. All of the supporting characters are good. Good story line. Plenty of action and suspense. Recommended. Looking forward to the next book.

The series continues to gather depth for both the characters and the people around them - in the city and the overall supernatural community. Stacey grapples with a number of issues in this one and discovers things about herself that were unexpected. Changes and additional information for all the team (and a few new to the team). It will be interesting to see how Stacey builds more influence within the sup community (and leaders) both with and without her father's approval.

good

I have loved Stacey ever since I started this series. She finally learns more about her magic and her Shapeshifting. I do like the fact that she’s gotten so tired of Victor sending assassins after her that she has decided to go after him instead. She also has some new caretakers in her house that help her take down Victor, and there is some sadness in this book because their friend died. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series.

Next Step

Lenny the lawyer that Stacy clashed against is dead. Now his boss Victor is trying to kill her.

So Stacy has to deal with the fallout, plus get her estate staffed and her legal practice in business.

Lots of action, interesting dialog, and even some romance.

Eagerly awaiting the next book!

I am enjoying this author

I tend to enjoy all of Anderle's collaborations. I don't much like the pacing here, though--it seems slow and pedantic. I don't see me ever giving these books 5 stars, but a steady 4 works for me. I like her people and premise and hope this writer learns to give both more dimension.

A good read

I have had fun reading about Stacy as she learns about her legacy. She begins to acquire a group of friends and allies to help her reach her full potential. The journey has been entertaining so far and I look forward to reading more of her story

Great!

This one was pretty emotional. They all make a darn good team though and take care of business. One to the next one.
