A lost princess found. A king on the brink of death. A savior returns. When the truth is revealed…who will be queen? After fleeing the fallen Emerald City and escaping to the empire of The Woodsman, Tip is desperate to revive the poisoned Scarecrow King of Oz.
Though she never planned to love him—a man who certainly hasn’t proven easy to love—Tip can no longer deny her feelings. Feelings that, like her newfound powers, grow stronger with each passing day.
While those around her become more convinced than ever that she is Ozma, the long-lost princess of Oz, Tip needs more than proof of royal blood and a stolen lineage to rescue the realm.
And the king.
Allying herself with The Woodsman, Tip uses her powers to open a portal to her old world.
Her goal? To return to Oz the one young woman capable of saving The Scarecrow.
A woman who might just love The Scarecrow, too.
A girl from Kansas. A girl named Dorothy Gale.

★★★★★ "Hand to readers who adore a juicy love triangle with gothic flair."
This is the second book in The Ozma Chronicles by Mae Holloway. It picks up directly where Book 1 ended. You DO need to read book 1 before this one, even though the author does add information in this book to help refresh things that were done or said in book 1. Personally, I did not care for the added refreshers, only because I immediately picked up this book after finishing book 1, so all of what had transpired was already fresh in my mind - so it felt repetitive. I assume though, they would have been useful if there had been a large time gap from reading book 1 to reading this book. So I don't view them as a negative.
This book is full of mystery, LOADS of secrets, adventure/war, betrayals, romance, friendship, trust, magic, and loyalty.
There were a few things about this book I disliked, but not enough to say I disliked the book as a whole or that I won't continue the series, because I definitely will. The cliffhanger at the end is a HUGE one. Most of the book, I felt like it was just pure filler. There are LONG bouts of Tips thoughts, several several pages of just her going back and forth with herself. They did not hold much entertainment nor did most of them hold any significance because it was the One of two back and forth thoughts each time. One being, if she was Ozma and the second being if Rye loved her.
I'm just going to say it. Because most people won't agree with this, but, I HIGHLY disliked Dorothy. She felt like a complete and total beeotch who was self absorbed. I loved Morella more than her. Which, to my disappointment, Morella, was not in this book but a snippet. I thought she could have added ALOT more entertainment, not to mention would have been a great assest if Tip was able to move her onto the "good" side, if she was made a morally gray character just like Pae was.
As far as romance goes, it is just a big spider web, not even a triangle, or square, but a whole entire web. There is little to no actual romance displayed in this book, except until almost the end. (Inner thoughts of Tip, I am not counting as romance).
There are LOTS of twists and turns, some that I never saw coming. So best to stay at the edge of your seat.
Another small negative is that there are more questions added to the mix but next to no answers given for previous questions. Such as, where the heck is Mombi and the Wizard at.
Again, I felt like 75% of the book was filler & most of what was not, happened at the end of the book.
The plot and subplots themselves are very entertaining, mysterious and unique. It is a wonderful spin on Ozma & the Wizard of Oz. I would recommend this book if you love retellings, The Wizard of Oz, magic, mystery, adventure, and romance! Book 3 is to be released a year from now, and I look forward to reading it.
Waited for this book and read it in one day. No regerts. Another one of my favorites! The book goes right into the action and keeps you on your toes for most of the book. However, what I didn't like was the constant back and forth of Tip not taking no for an answer. I get the whole strong woman thing, but at some point, it just blocks the reader from moving into the story. Also, it was just agitating, at some points it took 3 or 4 pages for Tipp to finally to get into the portal (in real live was probably like 30 minutes) for where guards had them trapped and 2 people were telling her to move it. You do get two scenes of romance that lead absolutely nowhere and it's frustrating because that was one of the things I was hoping Tip would finally get a break on. The attempted romance Pae was so funny and would actually make an interesting side series. Also, the author drags on who Tipp really is and who a couple of other characters are, making this book more of a fill in or middleman than anything else. I wish she really would have finished a couple more issues in this book. However, the ending will have you picking your jaw off the floor because all answers are supposedly in the next book which according to amazon is set to release one year from today. Once book and fan art get ahold of this series, I think this book will produce some awesome illustrations!
Continuing Tips journey to understanding her powers, building friendships and her relationship with Rye. It’s all going swimmingly until it isn’t. She has more steamy moments with Rye, she and he finally admit their feelings to each other. There’s betrayal and revealing plot twists at the very end of course, just enough to make one scream and through their hands in the air wondering “what happens next?” Am looking forward to the next book.
As like the first one I couldn’t put it down. The characters all come together. I am still rooting for Tip and Rye!! Can’t wait to read the 3rd installment.
Very exciting continuation of Tip and Rye’s story. Got to meet lots of new exciting characters. Pae being my absolute favorite and I can’t wait to learn more about him. Great romance, twists, and turns. An excellent book 2.
Just as good if not BETTER than the first! Higher stakes, questions answered, new plot twists. Couldn't put it down, I finished reading it in a day. Can't wait for the next book! And hopefully many more to come!
4.5 stars. I loved this, even more than the first book! Our slow burn brought us to some spice! Rye pisses me off but I also love him! I can’t wait for the 3rd book!!
