About the author

Kathleen Karr was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and grew up on a chicken farm in Dorothy, New Jersey. After escaping to college, she worked in the film industry, and also taught in high school and college. She seriously began writing fiction on a dare from her husband. After honing her skills in women’s fiction, her children asked her to write a book for them, (It Ain’t Always Easy, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1990), and she discovered she loved writing for young readers.

Histoire sympa de 6 filles au texas qui essaient de sauver le ranch de leur père, proche de la faillite.
Certains aspects sont un peu énervants, comme le père qui doit sûrement parler avec un accent texan en anglais et qui est traduit en français avec les mots mâchés. Et la conclusion ou les filles rentrent chez elles et épousent leurs beaux (les 3 plus âgées).
Ça reste une lecture sympa mais je me suis parfois un peu ennuyée, surtout sur la fin avec la partie où elles font du théâtre.

J'ai beaucoup aimé ces six sœurs, leurs combats, l'entraide et la façon dont elles ne perdent jamais de vue leurs objectifs.

I found this book unexpectedly pleasant. It's one of those somehow silly reads that one uses to pass some time while waiting his dentist's appointment or having a long train ride or in general when concentrating on the book is not important and expectations are low.

On this regard, it served its purpose. It kept me good company on a long bus trip and a good part of next evening, and while it slowed down a bit towards the end, it was a fast read non the less.

The plot touches a comedy level on the opening chapters when father Hy Harper comes down with all kind of disastrous ideas in order to save his ranch and it's a bit hard to believe the events could proceed the way they do latter on. The six sisters are decently portrayed in the book and while predictable, their adventures are quite funny in general.

Not a masterpiece or anything, but an ok read to pass some time.

J'ai tout bonnement adoré! les premières 50 pages ne sont pas des plus captivantes mais servent à nous présenté les 6 soeurs et leur parents; mais ensuite, tout devient extrêmement captivant et on s'attache à chacune des soeurs, malgré leurs différences de caractères; c'est drole et bien écrit et je me suis prise au jeu jusqu'au bout!

Very stupid, but oh, soooooo much fun to read!!! Of course I enjoy reading pointless and childish books, but who cares?! It's really fun to read just for a laugh, but don't read it expecting an actual good book!

Cute western novel about six sisters--March, April, May, June, Julie and Lillie--trying to save their dad's farm in Texas. After trying a hand at cattle rustling, whiskey making, and stagecoach robbing, they become actresses. I really enjoyed this silly book.

I don't know why I liked this book so much, but I read it a gazillion times as a tween (that was back before the term even existed...).
