I was really excited for this book, but it fell flat. The plot of Adam helping Jo with writing her romantic book scenes (she's a romance author) was a cool idea but it was rushed through, written poorly, and barely in the book.
This book was cringey like a young adult romance and all of Claire Cain's books (of which I've read 4 now) are just a little annoying because she writes about all of these side characters (who are from other books) SO much. All of her books are in this one town and all of the dudes are ex-military, so in all of her books the last quarter is all about the girl being kidnapped or held at gunpoint or some crap, and her man (ex-military) has to use his skills to save her. This is super unrealistic, predictable, and the actual saving part is so quick (UNREALISTIC)!
The whole book was about Adam working for "saint securities" and it was annoying. All of Cain's books are like this, unfortunately.
This whole book was very cringey; read these passages and see for yourself:
"Although honestly, given that my books were about hot veterans defending their women, I couldn’t be mad at the preponderance of capable, muscular men peppering the area." 🙄
"Funny how being kidnapped by a stalker had granted some perspective on things." 🤦🏻♂️
“Yeah, but you and Wilder are still the Saint Daddies.” 😷
Lastly, this book was annoying because Jo is an author who writes under a pen name and no one knows about it (not even her family or closest friends). She spends the whole book whining about it and then worrying, once she decides to finally come out with her secret and tell them, that they'll dislike her or not support her. Give me a break.
The whole bit with her secret admirer/kidnapper was.... yep, you guessed it: annoying. Just all around unrealistic and boring.
