This is a good book for someone starting their journey into music improv. The attached audio CD really helps practice games and concepts. It teaches song structure as well as training practices for improvement. It was really helpful!
I've yet to give the CD a listen, but yes: in terms of musical improv, this book is a good quick n dirty read that gives you a crash course. Again, there's no substitute for seeing it done and doing it yourself, but it's a nice buttress to what I'm already doing.
I think I have read this two or three times. I love it. I really need to purchase it for myself (and as it suggests, for my friends). If you listen to the examples and actually take the time to practice the info here, though fairly concise, will help you be a better improviser.
