The Young Man of Character
Few men are born to be conquerors. Few men are born to be leaders of countries. But to conquer the realm of the soul, and to gain the crown of manly character, this lofty task awaits each one of us.
Bishop Tihamer Toth was born towards the end of the 19th Century in Hungary and was ordained a priest in 1911. Devoted to the salvation of souls, Bishop Toth wrote profusely, as well as delivering weekly lectures at the University of Budapest where he was a professor of homiletics and of pastoral theology. By the end of his short life (he would die in 1939, the same year as his episcopal consecration) he had contributed greatly to the spiritual life of the Hungarian people.
This book is his reflection on the virtues necessary to be a truly virtuous young man. In The Young Man of Character, Bishop Toth seeks to create real, manly character in the souls of the young, and does so by examining, point by point, each aspect necessary to the development of that character. Far from something belonging to another century or generation, this insigthful work has perhaps never been more needed than in our own age, when manly virtue is attacked, and true chivalry is scorned.

This book and "Christ and the Young Man", by the same author, are both excellent books for any young man(I'd say pre-teen to adult). They are very easy to read, split into 2 page chapters full of practical advice and spiritual admonitions.Even though it's written for boys, I found many things even I could take from reading them. I highly recommend these 2 books!

A short and concise book, very easy to read and very practical, with valuable lessons for young people. This is a book I recommend to any young person who wants advice on how to have a better life.

The Young Man of Character! What a book title in our jaded age. Given that our author was born in 1889, it is perhaps understandable.
Rather than a discourse, lecture, or topical structure, Bishop Toth uses short anecdotes from current events of his time (post WWI), the classical era, Christianity, and everyday common sense across three simple chapters:
Who is the Young Man of Character?
Obstacles to Character Formation
The Means of Forming Character
The book is full of great recommendations, and while I think it is useful for a man of any age to revisit, it is most effective to share with the young (under 20, under 16, even) to be used as an aid in character formation.

Segunda vez que leio esse, e no futuro lerei novamente.
É um livro muito prático, e bem didático. O autor, que é um bispo, explica bem e usa uns exemplos que, por mais que sejam datados, da para entender.
