A fascinating book full of crazy, dedicated, undeniably cool people, but written in the voice of a hyperbolic teenage fanboy who loves a digression: the women are all beautiful, sometimes “incandescently lovely”, the men are chiselled, and apparently most ultrarunners find their sport effortless. I lost track of how many superstars there were and who was who. Still, the athletes themselves are extraordinary, achieving things most of us can’t begin to comprehend, and for that reason rather than the writing style I’m glad I read it. It’s a light, fast‑paced insight into a world I knew existed but had never really understood, and looking back I’d summarise it as genuinely inspirational and, especially toward the end, a real page‑turner.
