It started as an anonymous Facebook page in July 2015 posting daily Internet memes with a Newfoundland twist. Eight years later, the Newfoundland Turnip has amassed a following of over 250,000 from all over the world. The Turnip, as it’s called by fans, puts a Newfoundland spin on everything it shares online. Think of it as your modern-day Newfie joke book. Part comic book, part biography on the growth of a local Internet sensation, this book will take you through the journey of The Newfoundland Turnip thus far. Featuring commentary from some of Newfoundland’s local celebrities, this book will have you cracking up laughing while confusing you, offending you, and warming your heart like you’d just had a cup of tea in Nan’s kitchen—just like any basic cultural Newfoundland experience should.
Way to go with capturing Newfoundland humour in a book! Instantly had to get it and read it after appreciating the Newfoundland Turnip’s work online for years. Highly recommend, even just to support local, but I did get a nice chuckle out of it and can’t wait to see a Volume 2 someday.
I LOVE things that have making-of notes on the side, and its great seeing the little blurbs about the stories that inspired some of the memes ["my buddy (complete juicearse)" friggin destroyed me]. My only criticism is it could have used a little more editting. I think I noticed 8 counts of things being posted twice, sometimes a page apart. Christmas section in particular was bad for it. Overall, I had a time, and great to see some of me fav memes outta the fb and onto the paper [dad 911 has had us sayin by da jezuz every single time we see a miller for almost 5 years now, thats some top tier meme right there].
