While researching the reason magic disappeared four hundred years ago Theria, a wandering archeologist, is tricked into opening a cursed tomb, releasing a very ancient and very evil form of magic back into the world. Now, if she wants to track down the men who tricked her and kidnapped her friend, she'll need the help of the ancient magical creatures. Except that they have sworn off contact with the race of men. The task of gaining their help is not a simple one and leads Theria through the forests of her childhood nightmares, stormy mountain peaks, a prison from which none have ever escaped, and -perhaps worst of all- the darkness of her own heart and the hearts of men, a refining fire that may cost her life.
With the current state of the world, Treasured Bones was the perfect read—an escape filled with adventure, heart, and hope. T.R. Jensen, an Utah-based indie author, has crafted a story that is deeply needed right now and is perfect for the whole family of fantasy lovers.
Asmerus tricks Theria into opening a cursed tomb, unleashing an ancient magic he believes will prove mankind deserves to destroy itself in its own cruelty. But Theria, an archaeologist full of grit and compassion, embarks on a high-stakes quest that reminds us there’s more to humanity than its flaws.
This book is brimming with everything I love in fantasy: a fierce heroine, found family, magical creatures, a dragon! High-stakes adventures, and even a rabbit for a sidekick. What stood out most to me, though, was how Theria’s ability to break down walls and build trust made her a bridge between humans and magical beings who had long sworn off mankind. The world needs more characters and people like her.
One of my favorite lines from the book:
“For all their flaws, there is more to mankind than many are able to see. But I can provide no lantern for you here; the hearts of men are a dark forest in which you must create your own light.”
Treasured Bones is a fun read! Who wouldn't want to read a book with dragons, mermaids, talking rabbits, dark forests, daring prison escapes, archeology, and magic? I really liked the writing style too. Overall an enjoyable read and looking forward to the next one. 🐇🐉🧚🧜⛈️🔮🪄
I would recommend this story to anyone who enjoys high-fantasy stories that focus on adventure and friendship.
This book was a fun read. Our main character, Theria, had a believable and reasonable fatal flaw, even if I wish that it played a bit more of a part in the story itself. The characters seem to speak for themselves, showing exactly who they are to the reader from an early point in the story. Our adorable talking rabbit was a great addition to the story, being cute enough to act as a mascot but not to the point where he couldn't stand on his own as their own character. The world plays an integral part in the story, meaning that for those who enjoy world-building, this is a perfect story that weaves the things the reader needs to know when necessary but not so much so that the story gets forgotten.
This book is amazing! I would highly recommend it for readers young and old. Jensen does a wonderful job of world building and her characters are beautifully designed. The story flowed so well and the twists and turns along the way kept things exciting while still being believable! I loved following Theria’s journey and seeing her growth while still remaining true to her heart. I can’t wait to read more :)
