Something Like a Cello is a powerful story of a woman healing herself -- from injury, chronic illness, and a childhood of invasion. Her memories of abuse surfaced only after a violent encounter with a student in the school where she was a counselor; as she healed, she wrote it all down. In the midst of trauma, Nancy Morgan Shaffer was determined to create a life she could love, determined also to use her life in service of individuals and communities. She succeeded brilliantly, becoming a Unitarian Universalist minister and publishing a treasured volume of poetry during her lifetime. This book is the last of the unpublished writings left behind after her untimely death in 2012. These are the words she set down as she took each step toward forgiveness and healing from grievous physical and psychic wounds. As she made clear, it was these writings that healed her.
