Chaos Space Marines are genetically augmented transhumans who seek only to conquer, slaughter, and despoil. Clad in baroque power armour bedecked in macabre trophies and infernal iconography, Chaos Space Marines do battle alongside growling battle tanks, monstrous Daemon Engines, and thronging masses of cultist thralls. Some are possessed by daemonic allies, others bear Chaos-tainted artefacts or wield warp sorcery. No matter what form they take, they pursue their Long War with pitiless brutality, slaughtering any who stand in their path in an ever-escalating campaign of vengeance, conquest and apocalyptic violence.

Games Workshop Group PLC (often abbreviated as GW) is a British miniature wargaming manufacturing company. Games Workshop is best known as developer and publisher of the tabletop wargames Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game.
This 'Codex: Chaos Space Marine' includes all the usual background, rules and showcase sections for the Heretic Astartes in the tenth edition of Warhammer 40,000. One notable difference between this and Codices from previous editions is that the Emperor’s Children don’t get any rules or background in this book (they have free online rules instead) which could indicate that they will be getting their own Codex at some point in this edition of the game.
The background section of the book covers the faction as a whole, important characters, and the five Legions the book covers. As with the other Codices this edition, this lore is either copied straight from previous editions, rewritten lore and updated background from recent events. The main addition to the lore here is the inclusion of Vashtorr the Arkifane, the Chaos demigod of mad scientists and ruler of the Soul Forges, who was heavily involved in the Arks of Omen campaign books and is important to some recent lore. As always, the artwork and the model showcase section are great. This section also includes a few pieces of short fiction, with the first one being a little basic, but the last featuring Vashtorr is quite entertaining as I do enjoy his character. There is also the story The Traitor’s Tarot, which was in the previous Codex but I did enjoy reading it again as it is a fun read.
The book includes rules for the Chaos Space Marine Combat Patrol, Detachments, Datasheets and Crusade. The Detachments cover basic Traitor Legion forces, deception-based force, raiding forces, Raptor Hosts, armoured vehicle heavy forces, zealots of the Dark Gods (which is, annoyingly, the only way to give models Marks of Chaos), cultists and Daemon Engine heavy forces, all of which look reasonably interesting to theme an army around. The Crusade rules for this edition are pretty much the same as the last (with some tweaks here and there, and the removal of the god specific Boons), allowing players to earn glory for their army and Champion.
