Rhys and the Girl Who Was Always His

Rate this book
Rhys and Ally should have been together in highschool but life had other plans. When Rhys' dad got himself into trouble, the only way out was for Rhys to agree to date and eventually marry Ashley.

Even though Ally was in love with Rhys, she stood back and stayed in her role as friend.

When everyone finds out that Rhys wasn't with Ashley by choice, Ally secretly hopes they would finally get the chance to be together.

That is until everyone realises that they may not be able to get Rhys out of the arrangement and the only solution is for him to marry Ashley.

When Ally finally breaks and runs away from Rhys and their friends, the only person that's able to get her to come home is Ashley. The plan she has might actually work, but Rhys can't find out until all the pieces are in place.

Once the dust settles, Rhys and Ally aren't just navigating their new relationship they are also learning to manage Ally's new diagnosis.

Rhys and the girl across the hall is part of the New Hope World and can be read as a standalone.

Amber Davis is an avid reader who after lots of encouragement from her friends, decided it was time to put pen to paper and write the book that had been niggling at her for some time. Amber suffers from multiple autoimmune and invisible illness diseases and because of this, some of these illnesses are discussed in her books through the life of some of her characters.

She is passionate about bringing awareness to these conditions.

She owns a merch printing company with her best friend and has a whole bunch of other projects on the go.

When she isn’t working or reading, she’s binge watching TV shows and re-watching ALL the Disney movies, especially the classics. She’s a massive fan of all things Disney and has quite a large collection of books and Elmo’s.

Amber is originally from Queensland but has been living in Melbourne with her dog Bella for the past 7 years.

As always, I love this series. I love these characters so much. Loved getting to see Rhys and Ally finally get together, the side tangent of Hayden and Millie was interesting as well. Started out very dramatic, but kind of calmed down. Love.

the books in this series are always so easy to read and are so good in my opinion. I don’t know if it’s the found family or the hurt x comfort aspect of these books but it’s amazing. Rhys and Allys story was fun to read about and to be able to learn more about them. I’m so glad that after their struggles they were able to find their way back to each other. I loved them and that we got to see a sneak peek into who the next book is going to be about!!!

Amber Davis does it again—with Rhys and the girl who was always his, she delivers a tender, emotional, and deeply relatable romance that doesn't shy away from life’s messiness. This isn't just a love story—it's a story about fighting for love, even when life throws its hardest punches.

Rhys and Ally’s connection is the kind of slow-burn, friends-to-lovers magic that leaves you aching in the best way. You feel every glance, every hesitation, every beat of longing between them. And just when things start to bloom—bam, real life steps in. Ally’s health diagnosis brings a new depth to the story, shining a light on resilience, vulnerability, and what it truly means to stand by someone when things get hard.

The beauty of this book lies in its honesty. It’s not picture-perfect, and that’s the point. Davis writes about people with real struggles—heartbreak, fear, difficult choices, and the courage to keep going anyway. She balances warmth and reality with such grace, and the emotional payoff? So worth it.

Though part of the New Hope World series, this book stands strong on its own—but trust me, once you’ve met this group of characters, you’ll want to devour every one of their stories. If you love romances that are both swoony and sincere, Rhys and Ally will absolutely steal your heart.

Highly recommend this gem—bring tissues, and prepare to fall in love.

Finally Rhys’ and Aly’s story. I have been waiting for this story for so longandit didn’t disappoint me. To get Rhys background and aly as well was great.they have played secondary characters in the new hope series.Ally spent the whole running scared to their history and was also diagnosed with epilepsy and doesn’t want to be a burden on anyone. I ❤️ the relationship between everyone in the story and the characters

Absolutely loved this book! I’ve been waiting to read their story for so long and it did not disappoint! Amber Davis has become one of my favorite authors and I can’t help but drop everything when she releases something new. Rhys is so caring, finally getting to see him and Ally together after all this time was so satisfying and I love the chronic illness representation in her books. This is yet another home run!

Two things to say honestly.

First, aren’t cocktails an alcoholic drinks? Shouldn’t Ally be.. I don’t know.. monitored closely pr at least be forbidden to drink? It messes with your medications and illness in general.

Second, I love found family where there’s this one person who’s incredibly rich and just spoils the hell out of everyone. 🫶🏼 Talking about you Arden.

Reading this book I could not put it down. Real life problems when it comes to relationships, heartbreak, life decisions, medical conditions, the testing of friendships, it has the lot.
And it is part of a series of books where all the characters have their own individual stories so I am very much looking forward to reading more about this group of friends. Definitely recommend this author who always includes a real world health complication in her stories somewhere rather than everything always being so peachy and perfect for everyone. Rhys and Ally, I totally recommend this book and it’s interconnected series.
