“Three Drops of Blood” by Jessica Julien is a super cool story about Princess Lily and the siren Lorelei, who are both cursed and connected in a mysterious way. The book is all about destiny, power, and breaking free from fate, with a backdrop of magic and danger.

The story is about Princess Lily, who’s cursed because of her mom, so she has to find this magical mirror to stop herself from turning into a monster. To get it, she teams up with a cool assassin dude and they go on an adventure into the dangerous Forbidden Forest.

As we follow Lily’s adventure, we also come across Lorelei, a siren who is drop-dead gorgeous but also totally ruthless. She keeps herself looking forever young by feeding on guys’ souls, but a bad accident messes up her soul and leaves her feeling empty inside. Desperate to fill the void, Lorelei goes after the same magical mirror that Lily is searching for, thinking it can fix her soul. Along the way, she uses her power of seduction to become queen of the royal family, all while chasing after the artifact that could save her.

Jessica Julien creates a cool fantasy world where it’s hard to tell who’s good or bad, and chasing your dreams might cost you big time. Lily and Lorelei’s stories are super well-written and keep you hooked as you read on. The setting with the Forbidden Forest and the royal court is so detailed, you’ll feel like you’re right there in the action.

This book is awesome because the characters are so deep, especially the two main ones who are dealing with real intense stuff. Julien’s writing is all poetic and powerful, describing everything in a way that just blows your mind. The story is super exciting, full of surprises that just make you want to keep reading.

“Three Drops of Blood” is like a cool new take on fairy tales that’s perfect for modern readers. It’s all about cursed destinies and being determined AF, showing that no matter how tough things get, there’s always hope to lead us to a surprising outcome. Julien’s book is a must-read for fans of dark and twisty stories with badass heroines.

To sum it up, “Three Drops of Blood” is a super exciting book that puts a cool spin on fairy tale stuff. It’s got a lot of action, feels, and realness in it. Once you read it, you won’t forget it – makes you think about what freedom really costs and how powerful making your own decisions can be.

Review:

I LOVE a good retelling, and this one did not disappoint! It is rich with Germanic lore and has so many elements of a classic fairy tale, but with an edgy twist.

This book is told from multiple points of view, primarily between our FMCs, Lily and Lorelei. I particularly loved the scenes between Lorelei and her maiden, Daria - every scene felt organic and full of love.

The friendship between Lily and Sophie tugged at my heartstrings, and the Huntsman’s devotion to Lily had me begging for more. Really, who doesn’t love an assassin to protector moment?!

The author has such a fantastic ability to describe the scenes and setting as well, especially with the weather magic at play. The Forbidden Forest truly felt terrifying and the scenes within it were filled with well-placed tension.

Overall, a fantastic book if you’re into dark fairytale retellings with a bit of bite!

This story is a pure, classic fairytale with a dark twist. It’s romantic, suspenseful, heartbreaking, and unexpected. At first I was thrown off by the dual POV being in 2 slightly separate timelines, but I got used to it quickly and it spurred the story on in a clear and clean way. I loved both Lily and Lorelei and was so happy with the outcome of the story for both of them. I would have liked to see a little more of the story from the Hunstman’s perspective since his character brought a little bit of comic relief to the story at times. Overall this was a refreshing tale that just continued to pick up speed throughout the story!
Thanks to the author for providing me a copy to review!

overall a decent story

I know it must be difficult to build an entire world and create likeable characters in a single book… so credit where it’s due, the story overall was pretty good with lots of action built onto a Snow White as a vampire retelling…

But I have to say I just found there to be lots of little plot points that seemed to be skimmed over, inconsistent character descriptions and overall a lack of connection to the characters…

I love a good fairytale retelling, and this one screamed Snow White and the huntsmen, but with a dark, unique twist.

It was a captivating story, full of action, betrayal, secrets, and lies.
It had a dual POV, which I love, as we get a greater depth of the characters, which were all amazing. Well, not the King (Lily's Dad) he was a piece of work 😡.

It also felt like we started with two different stories that intertwined along the way.

This was truly a fascinating read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it.

I beta read this book, and while the first few chapters were a bit rough, it eventually turned into an amazing fairytale retelling. I especially loved the secondary plotline! While I read this as a rough draft, I know the author is making some changes to make this book truly amazing when it comes out in a week or two! I'll definitely read the final project when it is available!
