In the chilling embrace of a winter by Lake Geneva, governess Mary Wilcox steps into the opulent world of the Jensen estate, where the frost outside is matched only by the coldness between its masters.
No stranger to the intricacies of the elite, Mary is prepared to navigate her role—until someone is found dead on a boat, clutching a farewell note.
A suicide—or so it seems.
As Mary peels back layers of deceit and infidelity, she glimpses motives for murder lurking in every shadowed corner of the mansion.
Haunted by nightmares of a past she can't fully recall, Mary wrestles with the trustworthiness of her instincts. With each step closer to unmasking a killer, can she unveil the truth before it's buried beneath the frozen facade?
Or will she too sink below the surface?

One Last Goodbye follows the familiar formula established throughout the series. Mary takes a position with a wealthy family in Switzerland, hires a private investigator to continue searching for information about her sister, and soon finds herself investigating her employer's secrets. Before long, a murder occurs and Mary once again takes it upon herself to bring the killer to justice.
The book kept me mildly entertained, which is about where I have landed with this series as a whole. The mystery moves along at a steady pace, and the ongoing storyline involving Mary's sister continues to develop. However, I never felt particularly invested, and I wasn't rushing to continue listening once my commute ended.
Mary's intelligence remains one of the more frustrating aspects of the series. She is capable of solving complex mysteries yet frequently makes decisions that leave common sense far behind. At this point, I've accepted that this is simply who she is.
Fans of the series will likely enjoy another adventure with Mary, but for me this was a solid, average mystery that pleasantly passed my commute time.
Mary's private investigator, Sean, hasn't found any proof Annie, Mary's sister, is still alive. She offers him a big fee if he will continue his search. Then she goes to her next governess position in Switzerland on Lake Geneva. She hopes this position will not envolve any murders. It starts out fine, but some things don't seem right and the housekeeper, Sophie, becomes her friend. Sophie starts telling her several secrets and then a murder occurs. Mary starts investigating and asks Sean to investigate from the states. Things heat up with several suspects, ending with a surprise. Good book!
Mary is working for a new family and she is having trouble to find her way in. Parents are agressive and children suffer and which is worse they have no friends and are home schooled. The father shows up dead after a week she is at the house and then all her needs to find justice come alive and she'll not rest until she finds the culprit. Sometimes while reading the story she seemed to me more like a nosy lady looking for gossip... I thank the author for this ARC.
