She’s a doc on a mission. He’s a beast with a heart of gold.

Dr. Beth Godwin arrives on Parac’Norr with one goal in curing the Blood Rage mutation that plagues the alien warriors. But she didn’t expect Banic, the most feared feral on the planet, or her reaction to him.

A caged monster, she knows she should stay away from him. But instead of a beast, she finds a man with soul-deep scars who trusts no one.

But when the secrets in his DNA unravel and threaten to change everything, she must make a choice. Because loving Banic means risking everything… including her heart.

He was a monster, until an angel taught him how to love.

Banic has forgotten anything other than pain and rage. Ruined by Blood Rage, he knows he’s not worthy to kiss the ground the beautiful human doctor walks on. She holds his lige in her delicate hands and he knows when she’s done studying him, he’s taking a one-way trip out into the brutal desert.

Even though his life is already forfeit, he can’t help wanting her… needing her. He craves her like a drowning man craves water and he can’t stay away.

When an ancient enemy returns and takes her, he must confront the demon under his skin. One things for sure, he’ll tear apart the galaxy to save her…

Even if he has to damn himself in the process.

I've been a fervent Mina Carter reader for years. The Lathar series started super hot, fell to the wayside, came back as a smoking hot complex nonsensical mess with AI elements and robots come to life, and now we're back to a sort of hot but also dragging storyline. Several of the last few books introduced minor new changes but also seemed like placeholders in this long series.

With this story, at least one and possibly two and maybe even three new species are added to the mystery mix. A human female doctor has come to the feral planet to start work that will hopefully lead to a solution to the DNA that makes warriors become unstable and results in their excommunication from Lathar society. (There are definitely strong elements of racism throughout the series.)

The female lead, Beth, seems to be able to figure out what should be basic to the highly advanced Lathar scientists and healers. I had a hard time swallowing her huge scientific leaps in a society that's supposedly so hella advanced. She discovers there's a subculture of the "rage" afflicted warriors who are also hiding on the planet that serves as a prison-like home for the excommunicated warriors, regardless of age. This subculture of warriors is guided by a parasitic being that is not only sentient but telepathic and part of each man. For reasons I can't figure out, the brilliant, advanced Lathar have never noticed these obvious issues since they appear as large black patches of skin and may mutate into personal armor. Yet they've been undetected until Beth figures out this mystery. Hmm.

The male lead and head rage warrior is Banic, who's considered a horrifyingly lethal dude with virtually no conscience. Oddly, he has a real heart of gold throughout the story, so I didn't get that. Maybe it's a kind of Beauty and the Beast scenario. As with most Lathar stories, the two fall into hot lust almost immediately. MC writes a good sex scene, and these are no exception.

Unfortunately, there are no real discoveries that move this long, long, long story along. Instead, we meet a couple of new species that will undoubtedly be key to the solution of the mysterious Izaeans.

My problem with this series is that it just keeps spinning farther from the original problem, which is the lack of reproductive healthy males and no females. While this is discussed fairly often, nothing really moves that storyline forward. Instead, we get more political entanglements, more new species, and more sub-issues to resolve. It's starting to resemble a George RR Martin series (you know which one!) that spirals ever further in complexity, drops into boring troughs that aren't part at all of the central storyline, and new species who somehow are critical to the future resolution. I'm starting to think that I'll die before this series gets to a conclusion. Also, there are a couple of other offshoot series that are great and can continue to entertain us when this one concludes, if ever.

This feels like another placeholder story that might be sandwiched between another story of real significance.

Uncovering something new
What a fantastic start to a brand new spinoff series! I am always captivated by the misunderstood ’bad guy’ and the author didn’t let me down. In fact she seemed to draw a road map to this brutal leader’s heart and the secret the Lathar of old wanted to keep hidden. Little breadcrumbs light up the path to Banic’s salvation and his HEA, but along the way he has to overcome some pretty impossible obstacles. Not to worry though with his smart little mate at his side he won the battle, and my heart, just like he’s sure to win yours. An ancient enemy, an old secret, and so much more came together in this book to keep me glued to the pages until the very end. Hopefully the next book comes out soon because I can’t wait to see more of these brutal warriors in action.

We are told by every external party we run into that Banic is dangerous, ruthless and out of control. Then the whole book (sans one scene at the very very end kinda) he is controlled, cooperative and reasonable. Certainly no more beastly than your average alien romance hero. I think a scene where he either hurts or scares beth would have gone a long way. I also think the l word is not earned. There is no emotional connection in their dialog at all, they mostly only talk about the work and physical attraction. Lust sure, love no way.

really great book! I love how it is connected to the other series (eventhough I haven’t read those yet, so I can safely say that this book is very much enjoyable on its own!) I will definitely be reading those!! I love the worldbuilding and slowly getting to know the species in this first book! Tbh this is also a great example of a book with interesting side characters and I can’t wait to meet them again in the upcoming books, but that time from theirrrr perspectiveeeee! It felt a bit rushed at some points, some chapters definitely could have been more detailed and plsss stretch out the scenes a bittt in some cases ahaha (funny I’m saying that cause I read like twice the pages I expected for this book, but it still felt like I was reading half - if you know what I mean. Ahaha) but good read very excited to read more of this author!

I mostly enjoyed it. I loved the MMC and MFC, I enjoyed the slight alien aspect too. The flaws were, it was way too short, I read this within a day, I like my novels longer. I didn't like how the "Aliens" used the same descriptive words as English speakers do, it just ripped me right out of the story. The ending was lacking, it just didn't flesh out the relationship enough for me. I do enjoy the series so far, I just wish it was a longer read for the money. I do recommend giving it a try if you enjoy alien romance.

Update - came back and finished. It had its moments but overall a dud. I find most of these action leaning novellas are doing the most in the background while the 2 MCs fall in love. The action packed drama is too distracting, makes for a lot of unbelievable plot leaps, and corny dialogue. It's like watching a bad Bond movie.

--------------------------------------------------
This story had a lot of potential. DNFed at 63%.

Love the way both MCs are written.

FMC is the sassy, intelligent, No bs female

MMC alpha possessive uber strong hottie

But then the author makes choices that totally take me out of the story.

At one point he's the most dangerous man on the planet. They have him in a cage with handcuffs but then they let him stay with the FMC (she's a scientist) unsupervised with no restraints (for a flimsy reason)🤔

Then the MCs proceed to hook up in this open lab anyone can enter at any time...huh?! 😮‍💨

And it just happened again.... same scenario except she says "I love you" out of the blue and now they're going to have sex?! In this well lit unlocked lab. People just left the lab to run some tests. We have no idea if they'll be gone for 5 min or 2 hours but let's launch into this "take ya time" shmexy scene. Did I mention she said I love you?? *pulls hair out*

The math is not mathing ...

I tried to stay with it, I really wanted to but when the plot points don't add up it's like a bucket of cold water right before the steamy scenes. Takes me out of the book and into my thinking mind, which I don't want to be in...

I love getting into the biology of this different Lathar offshoot, and the big bad Izean rager Banic is not what I expected. Beth is on their planet to help these thrown away men. As a scientist she wants to solve the mystery of their DNA differences, but her sympathies soon outweigh her scientific curiosities. The mystery kept me glued to the pages, the falling in love story was so sweet and spicy, and the action was just right without being overwhelming. Great read.

I really enjoyed this offshoot of the Lathar story.

However, before starting this book if you have not read the main Warriors of Lathar series, I recommend at least reading book 14 Claimed by the Alien Shifter, book 18 The President's Alien Princess, and book 19 Hunted by the Alien Berserker. These books will give you a lot of the backstory that goes into this book.

While it can be read as a stand alone, I think having the backstory from the 3 mentioned books will help make this a more enjoyable read.

The Izaean "Berserkers" have always been interesting, and learning about the even more dangerous version of them the 'Ferals' was great. The Feral and Banic were first introduced in Hunted by the Alien Berserker from the main Warriors of Lathar books.

Human Beth Goodwin has come to Parac'Norr to do genetic research into the Blood Rage mutation that creates the Izaean.

Her study into the genetics of the Feral Banic and his Blood Rage, leads to some interesting discoveries.

Banic de Mina Carter Serie Alien Berserkers of Izaea libro 1

Argumento:

It's an odd book. I read it with a mixture of thrill, feeling of utter disgust, aburdity and boredom. Yep.

There are some cliffhangers at the very end, so the remaining mysteries aren't much clearer than they were at the start of the book, actually quite to the contrary.

What's weird about this story is how notions shift and change completely. At the start, one concept is introduced as utterly bad and scary, then it shifts to something else entirely. The parasite becomes a side-kick, the big ugly enemy locked in is easily let out to take over the lab and then the entire place.

There were instances however which I found unacceptable. For one, did my eyes see correctly that the FML is actually depicted to be exchanging sexual favours for her job-related information with a male test subject in the presence of 2 underaged children in Ch8? Nothing about this is okay.

Depicting women professionals like scared children with no idea about anything. Then the taking advantage element. Then the kids. I hadn't even realised those two early teenagers had been present the whole time in the lab at the scene in between thr FML and MML in Ch8 but it was throroughly inappripriate and creepy, depicting said kids to be actively witnessing the FML in professional position letting the MML who is a prisoner romantically and physically advance her as some stupid meat trade. Unbelievable. Yuck.

Not even talking about the scope of sexual harrassment and unconsensual kiss at the start. And then the polyamorous possessiveness talk ("our mate") coming from the parasite named We Are Legions or whatever. Oh and then the reproduction idee fixe. It seemed that the author had forgot that the MML already had expressed the same exact thought about FML before about her suitable traits to end up being good in that front.

The book was at times so bizarre it seemed bonkers and there were many loose ends. I guess these might be touched upon in the sequels. Like what even happened with the MML's twin, where did he dissappear to, and did anything come out of that research? And why was this prince character depicted almost as if personally interested in the FML at the start of the book with his meaningful looks when he in fact was already committed, as the vibes seemed totally there?

Well what can I say, it's such a confusing story. There is actually a solid plot underneath all the other bizarre elements but this book appeared on steroids all the way through. At least the MML seems to grow as a character and make a new friend inside his own head but the neverending intrusive thoughts about mate ownership went on my nerves. If not for the alien attack, this would be horrible relationship model.

Another great offshoot series set in the Latharian Universe. This time around we get to see some HEA on Izaea.

Banic and his brother were banished from their tribe when they showed the signs of turning feral. Banic has become a bit of a bogeyman and many of the inhabitants fear him on a visceral level. When he is captured after saving a human female, he is more dead than alive but hearing the voice of !an angel" helps him cling to life.

Beth is a human scientist who is studying the Izaeans in the hope of finding a cure for whatever is making them feral. She did not intend to be attracted to her test subject. To find his growly voice intoxicating or the very OTT protective and violent streak of his so attractive!

Beth is a great FMC as she sees past Banic's outer violent shell and into the heat of the man. The man who wants more for himself and his people than what they have been able to seek out so far. Banic is way more intelligent than they have been led to believe. Banic may be homicidal on occasion but Beth is his touchstone and I absolutely loved the way he looked after and attempted to teach the younger feral boys to harness their anger into protection of others.

Brilliant, fast paced and super steamy!!!

feral. I loved getting to know Banic through Beth's eyes. I loved how passionate she was about not only her research but also the people she is trying to help. I loved seeing Beth accept herself and Banic. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am looking forward to where Ms. Carter will take us next.

Completely different from what I expected. The feral seem like a completely separated thing in the Lathar universe. Who knew that after everything that happened to him previously, there would be so much to consider in the monster, and he would have a second chance. I liked and was very entertained by the suspense and having no idea what was going to happen next. Caught my attention how Dr. Beth Godwin was struggling with her interest in Banic and the intriguing scientific aspect of her research. The interesting descriptions and narrations had me with my eyes wide open, very alert, waiting for the unexpected and delighting in the author's imagination and with my own imagination running, a couple of times my hair stood up. I love these stories where the terrible villain is redeemed, something not easy when we have previously known him in his terrible evil. Action, suspense, strong and powerful characters, intense and conflicting emotions, a lot of monsters, violent fights, mystery, surprises, unexpected twists, romance and passion. But there are still mysteries to discover, and curiosity has me eager for the next story.

This first book of Alien Berserkers of Izaea hits the ground running. You might think after all the Lathar books and offshoot series, it would become tedious and boring, but it's ABSOLUTELY NOT the case!!!! They keep getting better.

In previous books Banic is a interpeted as being evil and unredeemable, but you get to know a bit more about his evolution and the trials he has had to survive and thrive in, when thrown into the world of being an Izaean, and those that become infected with the "Blood Rage".

Beth is the human scientist brought in to find out what is causing the "Blood Rage", by studying Banic, and its effect on him.

Their story sets the stage for this new and exciting world, with lots of twists and turns to keep the reader enthralled from start to finish. Can't wait for the next book.

Well worth my time, and I know it will be yours as well.

I was given an ARC from this author and am freely leaving this review.

If you read Hunted by the Alien Berserker, you know Banic. But we need to know more about him. Should they have put the feral on the planet? Is there a way to control the Rage? Beth Godwin has been tasked to work on Parac’Norr and help with learning about the blood rage. Find a way to control it and maybe save the feral. But there is something else going on. What are these black scars? When I first read that I was thinking of Venom. An alien symbiote that can take control when needed. I was sort of right. The Rage isn’t what they have thought it was. It is controllable and the “feral” can have normal lives. The new enemy is different. I love that we are bring back others from the series. The world is definitely a tiny place. The connection that Banic and Beth share is defiantly strong. Just was strong as Raalt and Maeve. I hope that the younglings can learn to control the Rage/Legion as well. I wonder whose story is next in this series.

Big fan of this author and just when I think she can't find a new direction, we are off and running. Fabulous read that had my complete attention. The Lathar are the epitome of masculinity, but the Izaean add a little more to that.

Banic is more than he appears, much more. Some good, some bad, some scary. Beth too has more than meets the eye; her scientific persona hides a warrior. They make no sense as a couple, but then that is the only thing that makes sense. I love the authors world building and foreshadowing that has my mind running a hundred miles an hour trying to figure out what is going to happen next.

This new series promises some glimpses into the dark underside of the Lathar culture, and based on what I've read here its going to be quite the adventure. Bring it on.

Good book

This book was interesting. I liked how strong Banic is but he will do anything for Beth. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow. It’s nice to see her not afraid of him. I was a little confused with how he went from being the most feared and untrustworthy to maintain his composure to the others eventually following his lead. He’s still feral but somehow they ignored it towards the end. Granted, he did demonstrate that he’s not that bad when he did whatever’s needed to keep Beth safe. I also thought she would solve the issue of the feral but more questions are raised and enemies with new skills are introduced. It’s interesting enough though that I’m interested in reading the next book in this series.

Gripping to the point you can’t put it down, Mina Carter’s new series Alien Berserkers of Izacea is one powerful read. Right from the first few pages of Chapter One, you get drawn into the story with nonstop action as a mystery unfolds. I loved both the characters of Banic and Beth…two strong individuals that are drawn to one another. As Beth, searches for the answers to the DNA mutation called the Rage in these warriors, she is inexplicably drawn to her study subject Banic. The story ends with a few unanswered questions…just enough to tantalize you. I loved that Carter leaves you hanging. It really works for these prose. Download and enjoy readers ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Banic never expected more than a death. Bit then he hears an angel and now he has a reason to fight. Alien Berserkers of Izaea is first in a new off shoot series by Mina Carter. I enjoyed meeting Banic. He fights his nature even as he studies Beth. She is a female who fights to see more than the sum of his parts. She sees the man and not just the feral. I loved getting to know Banic through Beth's eyes. I loved how passionate she was about not only her research but also the people she is trying to help. I loved seeing Beth accept herself and Banic. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am looking forward to where Ms. Carter will take us next.

Knock your socks off surprises and intense protective comradery surrounding what is happening to these male Izeans young and old on the planet Parac' Norr. Dr. Beth Godwin is determined to find a way to identify and hopefully reverse what is causing the Blood Rage mutation that is mysteriously infecting them.
Banic is considered the most dangerous of them all and is brought in when injured and they both develop trust and a strong attraction towards the other that helps to unravel the mystery of the rage.
But, it's discovered that it is much more involved than anyone could have imagined.
Fascinating first of the series that leaves you needing to know more!

I’ve read most of the Latharian Mate books and so was interested in this new series. I enjoyed the story for the most part, liked that Beth wasn’t a meek female and that she truly wants to help these guys. Banic’s story could have been developed better as he was described as someone totally out of control which didn’t end up being totally true. The main reason I couldn’t give this 5 stars is the ending. It was far too abrupt and didn’t come close to any findings of what is causing the Rage. I want to continue the series but I will be very disappointed if this isn’t addressed properly in Sy’s story.

Oh my gosh, what a hypnotic read. As soon as you start reading, you are completely and utterly drawn in. Beth and Banic are such amazing characters. Their story is so powerful and captivating. Mina's creative writing skills just keep getting better and better.

The Alien Beserkers of Izaea is the first book in this new series by Mina, and wow, what an impressive opening this is.
Though the ending left you feeling a bit more intrigued. The anticipation, knowing that there's so much more to come.

Loving the Underdog

If you have been following the Lathar, you know there have been enticing mentions of the Izaean Berserkers. Now we get to meet them en masse, and they are fascinating! I won’t give any secrets away, but they are heart-breaking and amazing. Of course, the human doctor falls in love with a berserker and figures out a great deal about what makes them tick. You will love, love, love this book! Super fun! I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.

I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Loaded with intense emotions.
Banic is loaded with Rage, a curse of the Berserkers of the Izaea race. He is physiologically resigned to his fate. But that changes when he senses his fated mate Beth who's come to Parac'Norr as a geneticist to study the Blood Rage mutation. Thus unfolds the theme of this new series. Beth's passion not only for Banic but the children cursed with this disease and also the adults living with it. Throw in The Horde who threaten to overtake Parac'Norr and the reader is thrown into a great new series that only Ms. Carter can create.

An exciting start to a new sci-fi romance series! Book 1 in the Alien Berserkers of Izaea series, Banic is the most feared berserker and if you have read this authors intro to this character you know that his story is a definite must read. Things seemed bleak for Banic, but when he meets Beth the human scientist it goes into another direction. Action packed, romantic and edge of your seat moments brings their story to life with a HEA. I loved and enjoyed this first book of an already addicting series and I can’t wait for more.

Every page was intensely readable! I loved Banic and Beth's story so much! The plot was layered, and it fit into the overall dynamic of the story arc That is already driving this exciting series, too! I read it and it felt like I was literally watching a movie! The steam wasn't thrown in your face immediately, but instead, it had time to germinate and fit perfectly into the midst of the generous bouts of violence, lol. Yes, I loved the book! I am reading them out of order, but they still make sense to me.

I loved it! I'm short on time. I just want to say I will reread this one many times. I love the doctor's devotion to try to find a way to help the aliens with their blood rage. Banic know she's his mate & stays in the cell in the lab just to be near her. He could get out & demolish the place effortlessly but chooses not to just to stay near her & watch her try to find a way to help his people get rid of the blood rage that has them trapped on the planet they are on. It is an exciting story & the doctor is a force to behold when she gets off on something. I love it!

Taken to a new level!

I love Mina Carter and her Lathar series has been great but… I like that she has move to the Izaea’s. There is soo much story waiting to be told and Banic’s story was a great venture into the psyche of the Izaea. I would like to see a better understanding of the ‘rage’ that makes them outcast as well as more story behind Banic and his brother’s banishment. Beth’s scientific study and results were a bit disappointing. Not enough intelligence coming from her. I mean, I figured it must be a symbiotic relationship early. All in all a good read, it just leaves you wanting more.
