Dying to Know is an intimate portrait of two complex controversial characters, Ram Dass and Timothy Leary, in an epic friendship that shaped a generation.
In the 1960s Harvard psychology professors Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert began probing the edges of consciousness through their experiments with psychedelics. Leary became an LSD guru, igniting a global counterculture movement and landing in prison after Nixon called him “the most dangerous man in America.” Alpert journeyed to the East and became Ram Dass, a spiritual teacher for an entire generation and the author of Be Here Now. Including interviews spanning 50 years, Dying to Know celebrates the lasting legacy of Leary and Alpert and encourages critical thinking about life, drugs, and the biggest mystery of death.
Wow! I LOVED this book. Could not put it down. It will give you insight into the birth of the psychedelics movement and how Eastern spirituality spread in the West. Some truly fascinating stories about Tim Leary and Ram Dass. Very intimate too! It will make you feel like you've become close friends with these two great teachers.
Thank you to everyone involved in putting this book together, and all the first-hand accounts. I travelled through time with this one.
A must for only real fans of Leary and Dass; and I love Ram Dass, but I'm not as into the drug periods as I am into the spiritual periods. While this is super important to understand who he is, it was lots of detail, more for most. It's adapted from a film, and I think it works better on the screen TBH.
