In the quaintest corner of an otherwise unremarkable town, nestled within an equally ordinary house, resides Lysander O’Connor—a far-from-ordinary young artist with a unique perspective on the world. To Lysander, the comings and goings of demons through an ancient doorway in her basement are about as remarkable as the morning sun breaking through her curtains. Yes, you read that right: Lysander has struck up a friendship with Satan himself.
Yet, the Dark Lord has been a shadow of his usual self, plagued by melancholy and seeking diversion; his feelings for Lysander shift into devilish adoration. On the flip side of this demonic coin, there stands Aidan Charles—a diligent carpenter with a heart as pure as an angel's wing and a loyalty to Lysander embedded in his heart. Their bond evolves into a romance, but the Prince of Darkness refuses to release her from his grip and compels Aidan to journey through the infernal depths of Hell itself to claim her.
Caught within this whirlwind of devilishly unrequited love, there lurks a smorgasbord of oddities, including Gluttony, a deceptively cute man-eating demon, an Incubus-fronted rock band, Succubus, and the Devil himself attending a bachelor party.
So, dear reader, the burning question that looms like a spectral shadow is this: could a mere mortal ever hope to measure up to the Lord of the Underworld? In this peculiar tale of love, laughter, and all things devilish, the answer might be as unconventional as the denizens of Lysander's extraordinary basement.
Charlotte Zang has three previously published books; Satan’s In Your Kitchen (a romantic comedy between a handsome carpenter, a charming ditz and Satan), Consuming Beauty (a diary of a young woman and a beastly man) and Blooding (a horrific story of monsters and the occult). The fantasy trilogy, Trust of the Magdrid, is complete and currently in the editing phases. She fully believes in fairy tales, magic and following your dreams.
If someone tells you there is no happily ever after, they’re lying.
Consuming Beauty has been adapted into a short film as has one of her short stories. She is a fan of science fiction and fantasy, loves all things kawaii, and collects journals she’ll never write in. She lives in Southern California with three loyal hounds, some impartial cats and her very own vampire husband. When she’s not writing she enjoys gardening, watching a good movie (or a bad one), reading all sorts of genres and cooking ridiculously scrumptious nibblies.
YESSSSS!! This book has all of the sass, adorable, and swoon-worthy moments that a romantic comedy needs. Lysander and Aidan are a perfect match; Lysander’s artistic and eclectic ways perfectly balance Aiden’s grounded and reliable demeanor. Lucifer is a dynamic character who causes as many crazy problems as you can imagine and his character is treated with nuance and care. He’s as charming as is frustrating and bad. The dynamic of all three together propel the book forward and leave the reader wanting more.
Side note: Declan is bae and I hope to read more of his character soon!
I have a new favorite book. Satan's In Your Kitchen by the amazing and talented Charlotte Zang was fresh, original…and insanely hilarious. This book was everything you could possibly want in a great read. From the first few pages, I was laughing out loud. When I wasn’t laughing aloud at the in your face comedy moments, I was chuckling at the rich subtle humor that was spritzed throughout. A simply delightful read. This book was filled with so much charm; so many amusing moments. These are the things great books are made of. It was simply a golden find for me as a reader. You met characters/creatures from both Heaven and Hell and they’re all one-of-a-kind and have their own quirky personality. I’m not going to list them here as that one of the best surprises while reading this book. Charlotte gifted you with these characters along the way as the story unfolded. I’m sure you have heard of most of these characters at some time in your life, but Charlotte gave them all their own unique traits. Even the earthly inhabitants you meet in the town where Lysander and Aiden live (and where Satan visits) are out-right zany and eccentric. One of my favorite characters, besides the main leads, had to be Lance. I liked him so much that I’ve walked around the house quoting him for Laurie’s (and mine) amusement. Lance is… well, how should I say it? He is a... (well, I’m not going to tell you everything about this book, you have to get it and read it for yourself. You’ll be glad that you did). My only regret is that I didn’t pick it up and read it sooner. As Lucifer Morningstar might say, “I adored the hell out of this book! It’s filled with some major devilish and crazy-good fun.” Might I ask: When is the second book in this series coming out? I need it now! Wonder which room Satan will be in in that one?
Satan’s in your Kitchen kept me smirking the entire way through. The live triangle between Lucifer, Lysander, and Aiden is compelling and engaging. I learned to trust Aiden’s judgement through out the book, as he proved to be a reliable character capable of seeing the bigger picture. Lysander’s big heart and peacemaker attitude made the triangle all the more better as Aiden and Lucifer competed for her affections.
