The Council #3

Fractured Futures

Rate this book
“It was time to take a stand and show the Council we weren't going away. They could try, but they had already taken too many people in pursuit of their own agenda, fracturing futures as they went. It was time the Council felt some of that pain.”

The Council had gone too far. All the secrets revealed had left us shattered and as we picked up the pieces of our damaged dreams, we hoped we would make it out alive to live the futures we all had planned. We would need to work together if we had any chance of stopping them, but it was obvious now that we were in way over our heads.

Could we trust the Agency? Could we trust each other? Would it be enough?

Join Sawyer and the guys as they fight for justice for them all against the Council. This is a contemporary reverse harem sports romance intended for 18+. This, why choose romance, may have some themes that are triggering to readers. Please read the foreword for more details. This is book 3 in the series and books 1 and 2 must be read first. This will end on a HEA.

I was really put to sleep by this book. Mostly the third book was too long. Instead moving the story on the author decided to explore fun activities of life like sex, then a prank war and other stuff. The only constant in their life is Adelaide or bitchalide, and she really earns that name.

At this point I do not know if I will read the spinn offs. At the moment is a big fat no! I am disappointed, because I really like the characters and I wish the author had invested more in relationship building while moving the story forward.

And I really hate to write less than three stars reviews, because the authors put in so much work but sometimes there is no other way. Especially when I love the characters and the first book was so good. But after that things went downhill.

The Characters:

Summery: detailed, lot’s of spoiler

"𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒄𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒎 𝒎𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆, 𝑺𝒂𝒘𝒚𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒖𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒏. 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒚.”

This is the conclusion of the trilogy and it is awesome.

** Trigger Warnings: Sexual abuse, human trafficking, drug abuse, and kidnapping.
(No details are involved.) **

Sawyer and her guys are more tangled with the Council and the Agency than expected. The connections are just not stopping along with the secrets coming out. I honestly enjoyed the secrets but at times it was confusing with the large number of characters involved (both death and alive) and twisted relationships. Get ready for a ride full of surprises.

It was refreshing on how the story wasn't only concentrated about revenge against the Council. Sweet bonding moments and steamy romantic moments were shown the guys together and with Sawyer too. Elias turned out to be a totally different person and every single time he would say "love" reminded me of Klaus Mikaelson from The Vampire Diaries *dreamy sighs*.

My favourite thing is how the book did not focus solely on Saywer; it was about Fin, Asa, Charlie, Samson and so many more characters along with every guy individually. It was more than just a romantic relationship, it was brotherly love, family love, acceptance love, correcting past mistakes love and more.

The last chapter and the epilogue was the best.♡♡

Thank you to Bookish Duet and the author, Kris Butler, for providing a copy of Fractured Futures (The Council Series book 3). I have reviewed honestly.

Fractured Futures features, but is not limited to, the following themes:
○ Contemporary Romance
○ Reverse harem
○ Large harem
○ MMF, MFM and MF Scenes
○ Winter sports romance
○ Secret societies

My overall rating for Fractured Futures is…

5 Stars!

I'm at a loss for words. Honestly, Fractured Futures was just so poetic, passionate and personal; the most beautiful conclusion for this series I could ask for. Sawyer and her guys have a permanent spot in my heart and to ride this agonising, rollercoaster of a finale with them all was just so special. Butlers ability to take on so many different character point of views shocked me from the very start of the series with how she bought them all to life. I really can't express the amount of joy this series gave me. The darkness hidden behind a delicate tale of the most wholesome romances is honestly so exotic and enticing. I can't recommend this series more.

I was wondering how Kris would end this series and there was no way I would have guessed that. This series was everything I could ask for. Steam, real struggle, family aspect, and hilarious bouts that had me laughing. My heart is breaking that I have to say goodbye to this series but I'm looking forward to the spin-offs and seeing what else Kris has in store for us. If this is her first series, I can't imagine what else she has in store to knock my socks off.

From the first book, this series has never failed to surprise me and this book was no exception. This book has everything you could possibly want; humor, love, sadness, intrigue, and huge surprises. I had no idea how this story was going to be wrapped up and suffice it to say that once again I was surprised. I cant wait to see what Kris Butler comes up with for her next series.

Let me start by saying how freaking blown away by this entire series I am. There was so much mystery, so much drama, so many questions and a whole lotta SPICE!!!! Sawyer will be my babe for life this girl seriously is everything the hits just keep on coming and she rolls with the punches without a second glance. Rhett and Elias will always and forever be my favorite and let me tell you if you have started this series already and you have read the “gym” scene hold onto your panties because Kris makes that scene look like child’s play compared to the one in FF. it is HOTTTTTTTTT AF and my favorite out of the entire series. I had exceptionally high expectations for the final book in the series and Kris did not disappoint at all. Elias had some serious crap to make up for and redeem himself and I can tell you this man, LORD THIS MAN out did himself and completely had me swooning. I can honestly say that I had no freaking idea where we were headed with this series or how it would all turn out but that’s what was exceptional about it. You were kept guessing literally until the end and holy F my mind was blown when everything was revealed. You still get all the love from Sawyer and all of her guys plus you get to see the special relationships between all of the guys and see just how much of a family they all are and how much love each of them not only has for one another but all of the love they have for Sawyer she really is the center of their world. Kris has became a one-click author for me I don’t even need to know what the story is about just throw up a pre-order and I got it! This is an absolute must read!!! ----CHECK MATE----

An epic conclusion to the series!!!! I loved this book. It had all the feels and gave you the answers that you have been seeking. And did I mention that it was soooo hot! I loved the world building and characters that you could not help but to fall in love with. Sawyer is so fierce and protective of her family and determined to finally get things handled once and for all with the council. The author leaves you on the edge of your seat needing to know what is going to happen but does not disappoint at the end at all. A definite must read! If you have not started this series then I absolutely suggest that you do so immediately. I promise you that you will be sooo happy reading this and find some of your favorites as well. I know I have. I licked and claimed Mateo and Tyler lol.

My heart may be breaking to see the end of this series. With each book I lived the characters more and the story became better and better. With the last installment we learn how deep the corruption within the Council goes and who the real players are. We find out characters struggle with even more obstacles and devastating events in their life. But through this all we find the live between our couples grow , new love appear and family secrets discovered. This was such an among series and Kris Butler you have one creative brain. I cannot wait to see what comes next.

I’m not sure how I feel about this ending. Don’t get me wrong, it was great and I get why it went the course it did. But, I wanted more when it came down to the showdown. Fin’s character was rubbing me wrong in this installment as well. I felt she was a little too whinny. Everything else was perfect and I’m glad a certain someone got what was coming to them ten fold. I hope Fin’s book explains why she was the way she was towards the end. Can’t wait for more in the spin offs. Well done.

A conclusion with a sense of completion. I liked how this series was tied up in a pretty bow.
It was very dark and heavy in some places and I liked how the author used humour to lighten it.
The sex scenes were whoop hoo!

A great end to an amazing series!
Prank wars, super steamy smexy scene's and all of the truth bombs that resolved the mystery that Sawyer and her men have been trying to work though made this impossible to put down. This was one of the best series I have ever read.

There were way too many people in this final book and I kept getting confused as to who was who. I don't have the patience to write a proper review, so here are the notes I made while reading. They amply explain the two-star rating. Also, trigger warning for abuse, rape, kidnapping, and human trafficking in this book. It's fairly disgusting what the bad guys get up to, and while there aren't descriptions of them mistreating women, there are descriptions of the bruises and other injuries.

1. Finley is dumb and takes a dumb risk, and for what?

2. Why are they talking about all this highly secret stuff in a locker room where they can be overheard by anyone (which of course they were)?

3. Why is it that information being provided in person by someone always has to be done in a bratty way?

4.
We walked out of the room back into the dim lit hallway. There weren't any exit signs shining with arrows, so I had to look around to see if I could find a way out of this place. Hoping that Finley was indeed safe, as Rowan suggested, I look a chance and turned left. Walking down the dark hallway, I kept Rowan under my arm as we made our way toward freedom and back to my family.

He doesn't know where he's going or if that is even the way out. He ought not to sound so sure that he's making his way toward freedom!

5.
Elias had always been the riskiest for me to trust. I could see that now, and it was my own issue. I never felt good enough for him and like I had the most to lose by giving him a chance.

BUT WHY???? SHE NEVER EXPLAINS WHY. Why was she so intimidated by Elias? Why did she feel not good enough for him?

6. AND WHAT HAPPENED TO THE THUMB DRIVE??? Finley is all, "I must protect the thumb drive," but then she undresses and conveniently forgets it. How could she forget? Wouldn't it have fallen out and 'plinked' onto the floor? And then the next day she says she wants her clothes back because she thinks the thumb drive will be with them? Anyone who had collected the clothes would have seen it and been suspicious! It wasn't in a pocket, for God's sake!

7. "No secrets," Sawyer says... and then doesn't tell the others that Elias has been writing letters to her. ::rolleyes:: The love letters are also kinda cheesy. And HOW is he suddenly in love with her? They've had hardly any interactions and spent most of the time keeping their distance from each other!

8. Why is it that in every book, the guys are like, "You're never going anywhere alone again" AND THEN THEY ALLOW HER TO GO TO THE BATHROOM ALONE IN A PUBLIC PLACE?!?!?! I could see that coming from a mile away. OF COURSE SHE GETS KIDNAPPED!

9. WHY WOULD THEY TAKE HER NECKLACE BUT NOT HER WATCH???

10. Also, ewww Adelaide. She's just too much of a caricature. From Mean Girl to skank.

11. Why doesn't he just shoot instead of warning the guy first by yelling out an objection? So stupid!

12. Why doesn't she just shoot him? Why do movies and books always let the Bad Guy monologue for ages while the Good Guy (or, in this case, girl) has a gun trained on him but for some reason doesn't shoot? Sawyer is having a whole debate with herself over whether she can live with herself if she shoots him! HAS SHE NO SENSE OF SELF-PRESERVATION?!?!!

13. This 'issue' of Finley's which she adamantly refuses to talk about is clearly set-up for the next book or next serious. Beyond annoying.

What an ending

I’m so sad that Sawyer’s story is done but am so happy with this story. It was fun, witty, sassy, and full of laugh out loud humour.

I need more of Sawyer and her men in the future!

Meh not a total waste of time but....

Sex scenes are pretty good but everything else is a bit cheesy, convoluted and mediocre. It took me almost a week to get through the last book. I just wasn't into it at all but still wanted to finish it. Also it badly needs editing. A lot of misused words. Ex: prosperity when they mean posterity. I know that will drive some of you nuts. The thing that probably drove me the most bonkers was the emotional wellness and peptalk overload. Talk about your feelings sure but every conversation doesn't need to sound like a therapy session. The characters are constantly in need of a safe space. Is this a younger generation thing that I'm not getting? I don't mean that as an insult but am genuinely wondering. Having the contradictory personality traits is annoying. She is super badass but has an emotional breakdown or shutdown every five minutes? Whatthewhat? Overall I was just bored and eye rolling the majority of the series. If you can't find anything else or just want a book for the sex scenes go ahead and pick it up but don't say I didn't warn you.

I LOVED THIS FINAL BOOK! And now I’m sad, I didn’t want this to end. I think subconsciously that my brain was making me take my time reading this book just because I didn’t want it to end. Then I had a massive book hangover, I still think I might have one. I know that it had to end, and we all wanted to see the council go down once and for all. I just wasn’t ready to let go of Sawyer and BOSH (which btw was freaking genius), the connection she had with all of them and watching their relationships blossom and grow it was absolutely freaking awesome.
I figured this final book would just be a full wrap up of everything that was going on. Boy was I so wrong! There was more that happened in this book and I LOVED it. All the added twists to the story and more things were brought to light. I was so shocked, stunned and I probably cried more than once while reading. Sawyer is such a strong woman and brave woman, I couldn’t imagine being in some of the positions that she was in (some positions I wouldn’t mind being in lol) but she always had people around her that loved her and cared for her. She created her own family and I think that is what I loved so much about the books, was reading their relationships grow and evolve into something better.
The last few chapters of the book I was white knuckled while holding onto my tablet, I was dying to find out how it was finally going to go down. The lies that were uncovered and more secrets came out, some that I did not EVER expect to come out. There was a lot to swallow there at the end, I don’t want to say too much because I hate giving out spoilers, but my heart really went out to some of the characters in that moment. I don’t think anyone could have anticipated what was to come but I’m glad it finally ended for them and they can all start to move on and heal together.
What a great freaking series this was. Again, I’m sad that it’s over but I’m also happy because it is the start of Fin’s story now and I know that is going to be just as juicy. I’m so glad that I had the chance to read these books from start to finish and can’t wait to read so much more from Kris Butler! Thank you for making such an amazing story and characters, I loved the world of Sawyer that I fell in to and didn’t want to leave.

If I could force you to read this book, in fact, this whole series, I would. And then you’d thank me for it. So just go read it. It absolutely will not disappoint. It has everything you want and more. Kris Butler created the most beautiful little family within an amazingly captivating and dynamic world. Somehow, she managed to end this trilogy by answering every single one of my questions, while still leaving me so freaking satisfied and happy. Now I want more, just because I will miss these characters so much, I feel like I know them in real life, because Kris brought so much depth and character to each and every person in her books. SO SO SO much happens in this book, and so much of it is stuff you won’t even see coming, so go get the book and read it. *But if you haven’t read Books 1 and 2 yet (Damaged Dreams, and Shattered Secrets), then go read those first because that is CRUCIAL.

OMG!! This was such an amazing book!! A great way to end this trilogy. You are immediately thrown into the fire after the cliffhanger in book two. There is no rest of stopping once you start the first few chapters. Man, I really enjoyed reading this and I am kinda sad that it is over.

You see alot of personal growth from the characters. I loved reading Sawyer's family, or should I say the family she is building. So beautiful and sweet. Also, to see the way BOSH (read the book to see what this means! ;)) handles the Council!! So awesome!

I love Sawyer's strength, maturity, intelligence, sweetness, fun and humorous ways.

The sexy and amazing guys in the harem: Rhett, Elias (yes! You see a lot of personal growth, answers, and the steps to rekindle with Sawyer...), Soren, Henry, Oliver, Ty, and Mateo. Seriously, this was like the dream reverse harem squad here!!

There were multiple POVs in this book.
Sexiness: 5 out 5!

Recap: a great book!

This review is of my own opinion.

Fractured Futures by Kris Butler is a contemporary reverse harem sports romance. This is the third and final book in The Council series.

The book does come with a caution "This is a contemporary reverse harem sports romance intended for 18+. This, why choose romance, may have some themes that are triggering to readers. Please read the foreword for more details. This is book 3 in the series and books 1 and 2 must be read first. This will end on a HEA."

This is Kris's Debut novel series and she knocked it out of the park. I loved the relationship between Sawyer, Rhett, Rey, Soren, Mateo, Oliver, Tyler, and Elias. I really enjoyed that we got each of their points of views throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.

I can't wait for the spin-off series Stiletto Sins to be released on June 23, 2022 so I can get Finley's story.

I would highly recommend this series if you love reverse harems, sports romance, romantic suspense, or contemporary romance.

This series. Where do I even start. I intially read Damaged Dreams early this year, very quickly followed by Shattered Secrets at release. I was blown away that it was a debut series.
There was so much potential, full of secrets, full of heat, full of heartbreak. I needed to know more but it left on a cliffhanger 😳

The series is now complete with the release of Fractured Futures and what a series completer it was. So many twists and turns that I was not expecting!

I've enjoyed reading about Sawyer and the BOSH boys relationships growing. The boys exploring their sexuality was just beautiful to read.
The suspense that Kris Butler is able to create made me really want to skip pages to find out what was going to happen next - I didn't but it was sooo close!

I loved that it wasn't your typical romance RH and that each guy had to work for their relationship with Sawyer. I loved that it touches on some serious topics in a tasteful way.

The side characters of Fin, Asa, Cohen & Milo - I'm so ready for this story!
Charlie and Aggie - well, love has no age limits ❤
Isla and Samson - they deserve every little bit of happiness they can get together.

Third book in this series. I freaking loved how they took the corrupt Council down! The evil karma that happens to Adelaide was very apropos. The family bonds made were very special. This family deals with gut wrenching attacks, but come out stronger in the end. Loved it!
