When Juliet Hochstettler’s family moves to Unity to help rebuild her uncle’s store that burned down, Romeo Yoder is instantly smitten with her, but their families can't stand each other.
The Yoders and the Hochstettlers have been at odds for years…though no one remembers the argument that exactly started it all. The Amish community of Unity, Maine, should be a peaceful place to live, but their petty bickering is disturbing the peace, setting everyone on edge.
Hoping for a chance to see Juliet, Romeo sneaks into her family’s work frolic uninvited, where they share a forbidden kiss under the moonlight, feeling a connection to each other even though they just met.
Juliet’s father hopes she will marry Paul, his employee, but Juliet finds him awkward and uninteresting. She’s much more interested in the handsome young man she shared a clandestine kiss with, but she knows her family would never approve of him.
Her hot-headed brother, Tybalt, only adds fuel to the feuding, which starts a wildfire of conflict within the community, leading to a devastating—possibly fatal—accident.
Will these two star-crossed lovers unite the two quarreling families, or will the constant fighting cause their own tragic ending?
A wonderful story of two people who were meant to be together! Juliet and her family lost a child in a horrible accident! Romeo lost a sister at the same time. Their father's blamed each other for the deaths, and began a fued that lasted for years. Would these families ever be reunited? Great read!
AMISH ROMEO AND JULIET is the first book in The Amish Classics series and I look forward to reading more. This is Romeo and Juliet's story and their families and neighbors play a big role along with their religious beliefs. The story has bad things happening to good people and their fathers can't get out of their own way. There is a feud between the two families that escalates no matter what the bishop says to them.
Romeo doesn't seem to be an Amish name by any stretch of the imagination and I seemed to stumble in my reading every time that his name is mentioned. There are a lot of happenings that go against Amish traditions and beliefs but things work out in the end. I liked the camaraderie of neighbors helping neighbors and that Juliet has a business that is not traditional for an Amish woman. There is closure and a happily ever after especially with the epilogue.
I rated the book 4.5 stars but rounded to 5 stars here and on other sites.
This book, I had different point of views, I was like families you have to forgive come on now, then it was like we know all things happens for a reason, so where is your belief, then Romeo and Juliet don’t let your parents take away the love you to have, you both are not children no more, tell your parents if you don’t want to give us your blessing that is your problem, but we are not just in love but we are soulmates, God made us for each other, then last knowing how the real play Romeo and Juliet ended there is a time when you or I did screamed as I was reading NO WAY, no it cannot end that way. Forgiveness is one of God’s law and have Faith and Pray.
Two families divided over a tragedy. Years later Juliet and Romeo find themselves interested in each other. What will they do about their families? Will it take another tragedy to get their fathers to come back together? Can this version of Romeo and Juliet have a HEA? I received a copy of this book from the author. Review voluntarily given.
I enjoyed reading this touching and challenging story, which shows the struggle of two young people who fall in love with each other, but their fathers are fighting together and don't allow their children to become a couple. If you want to know if love overcome the animosity between families or if hate win, you should read this book.
I just love stories like these. They are full of love and forgiveness, heartbreak and God's Grace. This is a great start to a new series for sure.. I was gifted an ARC copy but not required to leave a positive review.
