Amidst the destruction of ancient woodlands, a malevolent presence stirs.
When construction workers unwittingly unleash an ancient evil from its crypt, unsuspecting friends Jack and Carla find themselves at the epicentre of a grim battle.
Born at RAF Halton, Newton Webb is a British horror author and father to a perpetually grumpy tortoise. He is the author of fourteen published books, the collector of venus fly traps and a notoriously pedantic fishkeeper.
His international bestselling collected works, Tales of the Macabre: Volumes 1-4, contain stories inspired by splatterpunk and classic gothic themes. His fiction frequently blends gore with psychological tension, reflecting influences that range from heavy metal to ancient mythology.
In Blood Eagle by Newton Webb we meet Jack he has recently been released from prison he has a job doing construction and despite Carla asking him to go have a pint he just wants to go home stay to his self and keep out of trouble he’s ashamed of this past and wants desperately to see his kid and until then he mind his business but when people start being murdered in and around the construction site he is the first one they bring in. He is cautious when they say he is free to go but eventually he does leave and return to life as he knows it soon however the murders get so close to home that Jax turns from suspect to the one who solves the issue but OMG what a solution. I love newton webs books I have read so many of these books and enjoyed all of them I like them so much I feel as if he knows me and writes them just for me… I am not crazy I know this isn’t true but I feel like it he has the same taste in horror that I do and so cannot get enough of the books he writes. My favorite are the ones with real monsters but I also love the ones he base on legends… I just love all of them. This is a great book about a lonely man who tries to get his life together and then doing so gets a whole new life. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

After a time in prison, Jack yearns to rebuild his life and reconnect with his children. His days now pass in tranquillity and routine. Carla, his sole confidante, often encourages him to join her and her partner, Lucy, at their local bar.
However, everything takes a drastic turn when a string of mysterious and macabre deaths plague Jack's workplace. The victims are discovered in a grotesque state, with Norse artifacts, like fylfots, left behind at the crime scenes. It becomes evident that the perpetrator is mimicking the ancient Norse ritual, Blood Eagle, used as a form of execution.
Jack's growing apprehension stems from the fear of being targeted as a suspect due to his criminal history. His predicament escalates when he becomes a witness to the brutal murders of two teenagers, despite being inebriated and unable to recall the events of that fateful night. Despite his vehement claims of innocence, the authorities remain unconvinced.
Newton Webb undoubtedly captivates his audience with a gripping narrative that unfolds from start to finish. The allusion to a Viking torture practice adds a compelling layer of curiosity and engagement to the developing mystery.

Jack is an ex-con, just trying to do his job on a construction site. His (only) friend, Carla, keeps encouraging him to go out and have some fun! Jack isn't interested and just wants to be able to become involved in his children's lives again after his prison stint.
When an ancient crypt is uncovered on the site, construction stops. But, when gruesome ritualistic murders start to happen, Jack begins to wonder what has been unleashed.
The author has quickly become one of my favorites when I want a quick horror read. He mixes horror with ancient legends or mythology in a wonderful way. Well-written and thoroughly enjoyable.

This was a short read. Very interesting story…about a curse related to Norse Mythology. I liked the main male character. The storyline had me feel bad for him but also kept my interest about his past crime piqued (the big reveal will only happen towards the end). I also feel bad regarding his relationship (or lack of it) with the ex wife and kids. The ending was…not what I expected and really took me by surprise. Definitely worth reading!.

I love Webb's writing. It seems so wholesome until the darkness creeps in. Then, you realize you really are reading horror. This is no exception. It's short and to the point, with great characters and awesome world building.
A short horror that packs a punch. A good read from start to finish, with unexplained murders and an unexpected twist at the end. Highly recommended. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
