Maybe not the most easy book about the northern Spice Islands in the Mollucan archipel, but very comprehensive history from the Portuguese, Spanish, English and Dutch fortune seekers to get control of the cloves trade, and their relation to the local people of mainly Ternate and Tidore.
A lot of local wars, fights, intrigues and treason around the royal families and colonial powers makes it an interesting read up till the twentieth century when the cloves monopoly has ling time broken and both island fall back into obscurity.
Still a good read as I will hike the islands volcano's in a month time, hoping to visit some of the disbanded fortresses and see the local nature amd people in less turbulent times.
