As Daisy Thomas travels to her mother’s wedding, she is consumed with nothing but dread. She can no longer avoid the secret she has been struggling to ignore; that has been consuming her with shame, and that will force her to confront her own inadequacies as both a daughter and a romantic partner. Little does she know, fate has a mischievous plan in store for her.
When Daisy boards the plane, she finds herself seated next to a man who, to her dismay, turns out to be none other than the infuriating stranger who cut her off on the way to the airport. Yet somehow her handsome seatmate on the three-hour flight goes from being her sarcastic nemesis to her charming sparring partner, and then, something more. In the midst of family trauma and broken relationships, the enigmatic Charlie becomes the person who will help Daisy as she confronts her past, faces her family, and finally becomes the woman she was always meant to be.
Seat Mates is a funny, heartfelt romantic comedy that will have readers swooning over the flush of new love, and laughing as Daisy makes her way through the social minefield of polite society.
Like so many others, I grew up with books as my best friends. Now, as a mother, wife, and professional, books continue to be my favorite form of escapism, source of comfort, place to find joy, or even place to go if I'm in need of a good cry. And let's face it-- sometimes we are all in need of a good cry.
Writing grew out of my love for reading. I have personally found that the only story I can get more deeply lost in than one I am reading is one that I am writing myself.
When I am not reading, jotting down book ideas, writing outlines, or fully immersed in a manuscript, I love to garden, travel, and be together with the people I love.

I LOVED this book. It's the meet-in-a-flight/going-to-a-wedding romance I've always wanted to read. There's a lot of hilarious and swoon-worthy scenes that make it extremely enjoyable. They make such a cute couple, I can honestly say nothing bad about them.
I suspected something gut-wrenching coming towards the end, and... it happened. Luckily, it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. So it's safe to say I loved all of it! I think it's a new favorite!
You know that saying that everyone is more attractive at the airport? This book captures that fantasy and more. I didn't expect to love this book as much as I did, I was hooked from the first chapter! Daisy and Charlie's journey made me feel light and fluffy, made me laugh, and I'll be thinking about this book for a long long time.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC!
This was such a sweet book. A light hearted read with some serious content. I actually laughed out loud at some parts. Could see this becoming a rom-come movie
2.5 ⭐️ First, I would like to thank Anna Harbom, NetGalley and the publisher for this eArc in exchange for an honest review.
Seat Mates" by Anna Harbom follows Daisy Thomas on her journey to her mother’s wedding. En route, she meets the infuriating yet irresistibly charming Charlie Bond on the airplane, who unexpectedly becomes her anchor through a difficult wedding weekend.
The premise of this book was intriguing to me and set the stage for a heartfelt, emotional romance. Daisy and Charlie's connection was both believable and well-paced. The novel tackles several serious topics for a romance book but it was done with care however I do wish that this book didn’t delve so deeply into serious topics considering the short length of this book.
For a novel of its length, it often veered into discussions on trivial matters and provided excessive information on irrelevant details. This took away from the core of the book and sometimes felt overwhelming. Daisy's relationship with her mother is complex and relatable, but her mother's actions and the lack of sufficient remorse on her part was frustrating.
Despite this, Harbom's writing showcases potential. The good ideas woven throughout the book hint at a promising future for the author. While "Seat Mates" may have its flaws, it remains an emotional read with moments of genuine connection and care.
Very interesting premise anf the MMC is soooo cute and kind.
The FMC just had a lot of issues and I felt the MMC is shadowed for my taste and he had to sit back when dealt with her shit And he was so kinf and yet when he made one teeny tiny mistake she let him go.
3.5 stars. This was a cute, fun romance that had parts that read a lot like a women's fiction. It was sweet and very enjoyable, not overly descriptive on the intimate scenes and short enough to be readable within the span of a few hours. The writing style was excellent, it was easy to read and I wanted to keep picking it up but unfortunately for me it falls into the category of cute fun fluffy romcoms I will not be constantly thinking of. Would 100% recommend - especially for a quick and easy travel book! Despite this I am very thankful to NetGalley and Anna Harbom for providing me with the arc in exchange for an honest review.
This book was so sweet and comforting! I love airports and hotels so the meet cute and setting felt like they were written for me. The banter was great, the chemistry flowed so well! This book reminded me of Emily Henry or Lynn Painter, both of whom I love. While it’s definitely a “typical” romance, it felt fresh to me. It was hard to put down!

SUCH a cute story! I loved this so much! If you’re looking for a cute, funny, real rom com this is the book for you! I loved the complicated mother relationship aspect and the supportiveness of Charlie! I saw myself and my life in parts of this book which helped captivate me into this story. The plot twist during this book was also craaaazy! I kind of predicted it but thought I was reaching and then BOOM! I love Charlie and Daisy! I can’t wait to get my hands on the physical copy!
Thank you to Netgalley and Anna for letting me read this book before release date.
This book was so cute, and the relationship with her mom, is something I’m trying to figure out currently. Go read this book if you want a quick meet cute with a good message at the end of it.
3,5 sterren, het einde maakt het beter dan 3 sterren, maar verder gewoon een prima boekje. Je ziet al van mijlenver aankomen waar het mis gaat gaan, maar wel weer mooi opgelost uiteindelijk.
Thank You NetGalley and Anna Harbom, for giving the arc for this book!
This book follows Charles and Daisy, who meets in a rather meet cute of way, her flipping him off at the airport because he cut her off, then having to sit next each other on an airplane. They instantly have chemistry, and when daisy has to see her ex fiance at her moms wedding, Charles is her fake date(and support system) so she can get through the wedding without losing it.
I really liked this book, i think that Charles was so amazing and supportive for daisy, even after barely knowing her, and really helped her be confident in herself. I really liked at the end how it explained just how money impacts everyone in different ways, and daisy really shows a lot of character development by being able to admit that she grew up privileged, and how she realizes that it doesn't make someone a bad person for doing a job that may be morality kinda wrong, but helps them have the financial security they need to survive and have the life they didn't have growing(i cant explain a lot without spoiling the book!) I also liked how the third act breakup didn't get resolved immediately, instead daisy was able to make up with her mother, and go back to living her normal life, where she learns that she can live without Charles and still have a good life, but when she has him back, it shows her just how much he truly means to her. This isn't something you see in most of books, usually the characters just get back together soon after breaking up, and dont get to experience just how much their life is effected without the person. Anyways, this was a really cute rom com, and i am excited to read more by this author!
Tropes: ✈️Meet-cute ✈️Enemies to Lovers ✈️Witty Banter ✈️Fake Relationship ✈️Rom-Com
Daisy Thomas is on her way to a wedding. A wedding she doesn’t even want to go to. A wedding for two people who turned her life upside down. In order to be at the wedding, she has to get there first. While making her way to the airport, Daisy encounters some issues with another driver, who later happens to be her seat mate, Charlie.
Charlie is a contract attorney who works for the “bad guys.” He meets Daisy, who works for a non-profit, and is instantly drawn to her. After running into each other again, after their flight, Charlie learns about why Daisy dreads the wedding she is attending. He suggests that he be her date for the events, so she won’t be alone.
Charlie and Daisy end up hitting it off and turn their fake date to the wedding into a real one. Everything seems like it’s going well, until Charlie has a secret come out. Something that could ruin their friendship and relationship.
💭My Thoughts 💭 I enjoyed reading Seat Mates. It was everything a rom-com should be. I felt like it was fast-paced, but none of the important events were brushed over. The scenes where there was spice were pretty vague and not very descriptive, which I didn’t mind. One of the things I loved was how we got to see the main characters backstory and how it affects who they are in present day. The other thing I loved was the banter! Wow, could these two go back and forth with their puns. I laughed each time. Now for the characters. Charlie was such a sweetheart. He was such a great support system for Daisy after learning about what she had been through. Usually at the end, when there’s a twist and it makes the MMC look bad, I hate them in that moment. However, I felt bad for Charlie because he really was trying to look out for Daisy. I could not imagine the weight Daisy had on her shoulders and the pressure to be at that wedding. We do get to see her show some growth, after a good talk with her mother.
There was so much to love about this book. I would recommend if you love fast-paced rom-coms.
Thank you Netgalley and Anna Harbom for the arc for an honest review.
"Seat Mates" by Anna Harbom is an absolute gem! From the very first page, I was drawn into Daisy Thomas’s journey, which felt both deeply personal and universally relatable. Growing up in the DC area myself, the locations and settings brought back a flood of memories, adding an extra layer of connection to the story.
The plot is brilliantly woven, starting with Daisy’s dread-filled trip to her mother’s wedding. The author masterfully explores Daisy's internal struggles and shame, all while introducing fate’s playful twist in the form of her unexpected and initially infuriating seatmate, Charlie. Their evolution from adversaries to partners, and ultimately to something more, is portrayed with warmth, wit, and a dash of humor.
What resonated with me the most was Daisy’s relationship with her mother. The depiction of her mother's childhood and upbringing mirrored my own experiences, including the unique challenges and triumphs of growing up in a "holler." This added depth and authenticity to the narrative, making it even more impactful.
Anna Harbom’s writing is both funny and heartfelt, capturing the essence of new love and the complexities of family dynamics. "Seat Mates" is a delightful romantic comedy that will make you laugh, swoon, and maybe even shed a tear or two as you root for Daisy to embrace her true self.
Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a heartwarming and relatable read!
*I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book starts off strong with our FMC frantically trying to get to the airport to avoid missing her flight. Now I don’t know about you but I’ve been there a time or two myself and immediately found her relatable because of this. We quickly meet our MMC and the banter between the two is some of the best I’ve read in a while.
I wish there was a bit more of the enemies to lovers part. It felt like it was supposed to be there but the time was so short it was a blip then instant friends. I needed more angst between our two MCs. Daisys reaction to Charlie’s revelation also felt out of proportion to me as they had only known each other for the week.
I also had higher hopes for the ending. Although the author dodged the cliche of the MMC waiting for the FMC at the airport in a grand gesture I was really holding out for it. I feel like it would have given their story a nice full circle feel to it.
I loved the progress between Daisy and her mom though and the pace of the book was consistent.
This book is for you if you like :
Enemies to friends to lovers Fake dating Complex family dynamics
Seat Mates was a charming and relatively easy read.
Daisy and Charlie were so sweet. I liked that their meet cute and their ensuing friendship developed in a really believable and heartwarming way. There was honestly nothing to dislike about these two. I think a lot of readers are going to resonate with Daisy, and fall in love with Charles. Even the annoying secondary characters end up becoming redeemable and somewhat likeable too.
This book definitely relies on a lot of typical romance tropes: emotionally abusive + immature mother, douchey ex + new hot gf, and a messy drama-filled wedding... And in some ways, I think it made the story rather formulaic, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just means that this story isn't going to be as unforgettable as others.
What drew me to the book was definitely the cover, but I want to point out that it's a little misleading... (And I know, I know, I'm being SO PICKY here, but I have this thing about covers needing to represent a story perfectly) Only a very small portion of the story is set at the airport/on the plane and about them being seat mates...
Overall, not bad for a debut novel. If you're looking for a romance with some emotional depth to it, give Seat Mates a try!
Rating: 3/5
Thank you so much to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author, Anna Harbom, for providing me with an ARC copy in exchange for an honest and fair review.

Daisy is on her way to a wedding in DC that she really does not want to go to, over Labor Day weekend. She's still nursing a broken heart and her best friend that was supposed to go with her had a family emergency, forcing her to back out and leave our FMC to brave this weekend alone. Our girl is stressed, overwhelmed, and a BMW just cut her off at the airport.
Something that I found interesting is that not only is Daisy flawed, as all people are, but we get to see some of her ugly behavior immediately. She's impulsive and judgmental and bitter right away, but that is not the whole of her person and she has believable reasons for being jaded.
Enter Charlie, the sweet, supportive, earnest man Daisy sits next to on the plane, and just so happened to be driving the BMW that cut her off. They have a tense exchange that, by the end of the flight, dissolves into something resembling a friendship.
Coincidence (or fate) continues pulling them back together throughout the book, in which they help each other discover aspirations, boundaries, and that their world views may be skewed by their early childhoods.
This book is everything The Hating Game could have been. Daisy is petite without it being her entire personality, and Charlie acknowledges her small stature without it being the main plot. The characters feel multidimensional and the story keeps pace so as to never feel boring.
This was a genuinely charming love story, and despite everything I needed to do today I kept coming back to read "just a few more pages" until I finally sat down and gave in to the urge to finish the rest in one sitting.
Daisy is attending her mother’s wedding in D.C. and she is not happy about it. To make matters worse, she has to fly from Denver next to an annoying passenger, a stuffed-shirt lawyer who cut her off in traffic. Still, the two rub along and find common ground in the capitol and he becomes support as she attends a very difficult wedding.
This book is very much about the messiness of life. I appreciate Harbom’s ability to inject difficult topics into a light-hearted romcom, and she does so deftly, arranging the plot and characters into genuine, moving moments between all parties. Sure, it is a romance, but it is also how we get in our own way and harm those we are closest to. Trauma, poverty, and abandonment are at the heart of this quick read romance, and I think is is worth the read. I kind of wish the last few pages were less of a wrap-up than they are. I think they need an epilogue chapter all to themselves or need to be fleshed out a bit more. All in all, a good, thoughtful read.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
A lovely romance. Daisy is reluctantly attending her mother’s wedding. She’s about to miss her flight so when another driver cuts her off, her road rage is activated. Unfortunately, the driver that cut her off (Charlie) is also the man sitting next to her on a crowed flight to Washington D.C. While Daisy gathers her courage to face her mother, she is surprised to find Charlie is a good listener and they end up chatting during their three-hour plane ride…
This was delightful. Daisy and Charlie have great banter and it was sweet to see their initial dislike transform into friendship. Set over the course of a few days, Daisy’s and Charlie’s relationship develops quickly and feels organic and believable. I was rooting for them!
Thank you to Anna Harbom and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a copy.
Wow 🫶🏼 I honestly loved this book so much! I didn’t know what to expect as this is her debut novel. But she did not disappoint. I had a feeling the book was going to be good when it started off “what the hell, asshole!”Talk about falling in love with the man MC! Charlie was so lovable 💕 And I loved her writing style; she made me feel just as much as when I’m reading an Emily Henry book. Daisy and Charlie’s love story was one of my favorites that I’ve read. I also enjoyed the all too relatable family issues, such as feeling like you’re the parent at times. The ending made me cry happy tears and I laughed out loud a few times while reading. I got through the book in one day! If you love fast paced Rom-coms then this books is for you. It also had a little bit of spice as well 😉 This is my first time reading a book from a self published author and I’m so happy to have loved it so much! I can’t wait to read from more indie authors.
I have to give this one 5 stars, I absolutely flew through it. I could not put this book down. It was so enjoyable, fake dating, meeting in flight in an airport, and the FMC overcoming something and growing into herself. I'm also happy that although the MMC is swoonworthy, he is not perfect... but close to ;)
Daisy is traveling to DC for her mother's wedding when she meets Charlie by chance, of course. He ends up sitting next to her on the flight, and they banter back and forth... and the banter 😍 loved it so much. The entire book they banter and bicker back and forth, and I love that in romcoms.
This story was so enjoyable, and it was a fun short read. Definitely recommend if you need a light and enjoyable romcom in your life.
Thank you so much to the author and netgalley for an ARC. I enjoyed it so much 🥰
This was a super cute and easy read. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Charlie and Daisy. Charlie was a breath of fresh air when it came to boosting Daisy’s confidence when standing up for herself. She always had it internally but avoided ever expressing it. Especially to the ones she loves the most. Her mother was insufferable. Personally I think the author let her mom off the hook pretty easy with what happened between them. I also didn’t dislike Rob. At first I was indifferent about him but as the conversations were had and he started to really internalize how others handle situations differently he started to get better. I really think people will enjoy this story if they want something that’s not overly complicated but has just the right amount of tension in it.
Thank you Netgalley and Anna for the chance to read this story!
Thank you to NetGalley for early access to Seat Mates! It was so much fun to read this story.
Daisy and Charlie are so cute together. They meet outside the airport on the way to DC and keep bumping into each other during their visit, as their chemistry and tension grows. I laughed with them and smiled through so much of the book. It's so sweet and a really good time! They're both joyful characters and I think it was fun to watch them fall in love.
Some of the drama around Daisy and her mother felt a little over the top - but I think in order to prove a point, it had to be. I think, despite not all being rich adults like her mother, we can identify with the struggles in relationships - especially with our parents.
I loved reading Seat Mates! I started reading it and couldn’t put it down. I laughed. I cried. The relationship between the two main characters, Daisy and Charlie, was so real and beautiful. Going along on their relationship journey was such a wonderful experience. I loved the chemistry. I loved the banter. I loved the dialogue. I loved the romance. I loved everything about this story! If you are looking for a heartfelt read, you need to pick up Seat Mates. The authors writing style is smooth and solid. I can’t wait to read more books written by her. Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own. #shortbookthyme @shortbookthyme
I was provided an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The plot for this book was cute: man and woman have a negative interaction in the airport parking lot, and end up at seat mates on the plane. From there, they learn more about each other, and become friends and then more.
The chemistry was good between the main characters, and things between them was very heartwarming. Charlie was great with comforting Daisy and letting her vent about her very immature mother.
Thanks to the author and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have ABSOLUTELY ADORED this book. Like OMG, it is now one of my favourite romcoms along the likes of Alie Hazelwood and Julie Soto. A terrific book with lovely and entertaining but still realistic plot with three dimensional characters and swoon-worthy scenes.
I was enchanted by the story and the characters and had a fantastic time while reading this book. I will definitely be following the author and reading their next books.
I loved this book sooo much! It was a fun adventure and the characters were fantastic. This book was well-written, great descriptive writing and great character development. These 2 (Daisy and Charlie) were perfect for each other in my opinion. This book had romance, laugh-out-loud moments, drama, a wedding and a great journey. It was great from the start and the ending was just as great. Just went to check what other books this author wrote and I found that this is her first one. Excited to see what she writes next. :) This is a must-read book!
Seat Mates is such a perfect vacation/summer read! Depicting every single girls dream meet-cute at the airport, this book was really lovable and cute! I absolutely love the banter between Daisy and Charlie which literally starts chapter one 🥰
The book is quick and a little insta-love but it was well written and the character development/situations somehow made it seem plausible! Thanks to NetGalley and author for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
