A lonely orphan girl, a secret society of demon hunters, and reluctant fated mates destined to soar or fall…

When I collide with a wall of muscle that’s a gorgeous stranger, the last thing I expect is to fall victim to a demon attack that same day. The mysterious man and his burly friends rescue me and insist I accompany them. I run instead.

Now I’m being hunted by winged warriors who vow I belong with them. Captured and brought to Invicta, a school and HQ for demon hunters with angelic ancestry, I try to find my way among the condescending and brooding creatures.

When I escape, I’m hunted down again and claimed as Ashanti by Xavier—the most arrogant winged warrior of them all and the second-in-command at the institute. But it turns out I may already have a bond with another—the chocolate-eyed warrior with charcoal wings I ran into the day my life upturned, Kole… I don’t trust either of them. And I most definitely don’t trust my broken heart.

When my dormant powers spark to life and the demon returns for me, threatening all of humanity with its emergence, I must make a choice—run again or face it head-on.

Sky Ice is the riveting first book in the Earthbounders dark fantasy romance series. If you like strong but wounded heroines, slow-burn romance, and dark suspense, you’ll adore E. G. Sparks’s pulse-quickening tale.

I am intrigued to see where this goes.
The development of the world is a bit haphazard as so many fantasy series starts out.
The characters are interesting and I love me some found family plots!
I did find some confusion in the plot, but holding out judgement on that until I read the rest of the series since it may become clear in the remaining books.
Overall very cool ideas here and intriguing enough that I am excited to read more.
Much love to BookSirens and E.G. Sparks for my digital copy.

Sky Ice has given me an instant book hangover.

This is the first book in the dark fantasy romance series called Earthbounders.

Arien Blair has lived a harsh, lonely life until recently. After a frightening attack by a shadowy creature, her life is turned upside down as her eyes are opened to a whole new world.

Arien is a very independent, strong minded and brave woman who faces the world with her head held high. No matter what, she always listens to her heart and faces the consequences later.

There are many romantic interests in this book although, it is more than likely you will have your very own favourite when you meet each of these intriguing characters.

Angels, Demons, Fae and other creatures roam these pages, bringing E. G. Spark's world to life, giving you everything you crave from a fantasy.

To be truthful, I got to a point in this book where I was going to rate it four stars but as the end neared and the book hit its peak, there was just something that gave me that five star feel. By the end I had that tingly feeling you get when you read a brilliant book and a new found addiction.

I can one hundred percent see Earthbounders being something big, with movies, merchandise and a huge fanbase.

If you love: Shadow Hunters; Angels and Demons; fantasy; powerful eyes; strong women; suspense and more, then this is definitely the book for you.

Sky Ice was a good book I loved it from beginning to end. I loved the characters also all the fae and magical things I'm new to the fantasy girl Era. But I loved this one the ending was amazing can't wait to read the next book! There was some confusion in some parts of the book that I had to re read but that was no issue for me. I gotta say i finished the book in one sitting.

I was giving this book directly from the author so shoutout to her for giving me the opportunity to review her book! This is a 100% honest review 💕

This book is an absolute masterpiece. From the prologue, i felt like I was actually experiencing what the characters were. Throughout the book i found myself in shock, angry, sad, and falling in love, among other emotions/feelings. I would definitely recommend this book, and I will be reading it again. Well done to the author.

I received an ARC for free and i am leaving this review on my own free will.

Orphan with an otherworldly backstory. Slow burn romance worth waiting for. A young woman with depth and perseverance. This urban fantasy new adult story had everything I look for in the genre. I had such a hard time putting it down, and I need to know what happens next for Arien!

Overall enjoyed, but also very perplexed. I will be continuing on to the next book!

There was a lot going on in this book and most things were only explained just enough to hook you in and then was moved on from. We've got Angels and Demons being the main focus as Arien discovers she might actually have angel DNA. We also get a brief mention of another city that is filled with shifters, but we don't have any interactions with them yet. There is also a Fae King that appears a couple times, so we know there's more there that is going to happen, but we don't get any info into their world.

There is a romance brewing which I believe is going to be between Arien and Kole, but there was also some open interpretation into something happening with Xavier. Might be a love triangle thing, might just be there to throw us off. I did love all the snark and sass between Arien and Xavier. She is definitely feisty and doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut.

I also really enjoyed the side characters. It is a great start to a found family and I'm looking forward to more of the character development in the next books.

The ending was a little wild with Arien getting some powers through finally and what transpired.

I received a copy of this from the Author and BookSirens. My thoughts are entirely my own.

Read if you love:

-Homeless Rep
-Shifters
-Fae

“Sky Ice” the first book in the Earthbounders series by E.G. Sparks is a stirring adventure through a journey of magic, fae, angels, demon hunters, and simmering romance where multiple worlds overlap. Sparks introduces readers to Arien Blair, an eighteen-year-old homeless orphan whose childhood had offered little hope for the future as it was accompanied by endless turmoil.

As fate would have it, her life takes an uncertain turn when she encounters with horror three men facing off with strange beings in a brutal attack as she was heading to visit her friend Paulie, who lived in the junkyard. Their leader, as she had shockingly noticed, was a hooded figure with an empty chasm in the place of a head, creating an illusion.

Soon, Arien would find herself in an alien world of angel-descendant warriors known as Earthbounders who had a special mission on Earth. She also discovers she was one of the lesser ones, and learns that Bezekah, a Great Archon was after her and was capable of bringing legions of demons into Earth, which would be catastrophic to the whole world. Much is at risk and Arien is ready to risk it all to save the decreasing Earthbounder population, that played a vital role in the safety of a world under threat of annihilation.

“Sky Ice” is undoubtedly an intricately contrived fantasy novel. The narrative begins with a striking prologue that stretches out vivid imagery with the words:

Floating fabric of foreign colors carried me forward as if smooth sailing. I recognized the purples, pinks, and azure mixed with other mesmerizing hues. They blended with fluidity, one evolving from where the other washed out.
Sparks’ world-building soars over modern tropes, providing graceful portraiture for artists young and old. Despite the fantastical elements, each story is steeped in emotional realism and marked by urban premises, making this a text you will immerse yourself in.

In the book’s setup, worlds of unforeseen awe and peril abound with contemptible antiheroes to hate, a protagonist to root for, and anguished shimmers of hope to hang on to throughout. Overall, the characters are nuanced, and their growth is admirable as the book progresses. Still, it’s the lush prose and evocative pull of the world itself that makes reading this novel rewarding. “Sky Ice (Earthbounders)” by E.G. Sparks is certainly a five-star literary feat from a confident author and one that fans of this genre, will enjoy poring over.

First time reader/listener of the author and was in total awe of the world building. I was pleasantly surprised when I realized this was an Angel type story. There's even Fae!! The FMCs leading men are.... something. Cole is my favorite, but Xavier is one of those brooding-dark-alphahole-type and I'm not sure if I can trust him. He seems bad bad, but keeping my fingers crossed he's just bad for a good cause. Arien is thrown into this new world, not believing she's truly one of them. Trust is something she can't afford when she's been a survivor her whole life. She's, basically, navigating her way through with the best she has. And by the end, she's determined to set things right by doing things her way. But she totally has people who are willing to help her. Once again, the trust issues. However, I'm looking forward to reading more because that was a worthy cliffhanger ending, and it's not over.

Sky Ice

I love the concept of Sky Ice A Dark Fantasy Romance by E. G. Sparks. It was very well written and thought out. I love how in this book by E. G. Sparks we get to discover the lovely world of the Earthbounders as we get a firsthand glimpse of it through the eyes of Arien Blair who is an orphan, who is just trying to survive her day-to-day life when she uncovers there is more to life than she knew. Arien must come face to face with the fact that she’s not human but in fact she’s a secondborn but she doesn’t feel like an Earthbounder she still feels human. Is Arien right is she really human and everyone has gotten it wrong, or is there more to Arien Blair than what meets the eye? I guess that you will have to read Sky Ice to find out. I have to say I absolutely love this book- actually I loved it so much I listened to it twice. There was so much to unpack and I found that I fell in love with different characters between the first and second time listening , although I still have my favs ♥️ This book has everything you could possibly want. It was incredibly well written with such vivid imagery it just added to the overall experience left me wanting more instantly. The world that she has created is so detailed along with the scenes and characters, it will have you feeling all the emotions with a hint of humor, I cannot say enough. If you are on the fence, just go ahead and take the leap and read or listen to this book. You will not be disappointed.

Sky Ice was a blast! it is a face paced novel about Arien, on orphan on the streets of New Seattle who finds out she is more than human and discovers a whole realm of Angels and Demons and other creatures she only knew about it fairy tales. Unknowingly, by befriending another homeless person, she steps into a dangerous political game.

I love found family tropes, they would have to be my favourite and this one did not disappoint. There world building lacked a little and the story jumper around a little where I would to delve into a scene more but overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It had me captured from the start. I didn't slow, there was no pointless scenes, it all moved well and I couldn't put it down.

Cannot wait to get my hands on the next book. 5 Stars from me and a huge thankyou to book sirens for providing me with a free copy of this book.

E.G. Sparks has crafted a truly captivating paranormal romance with Sky Ice, a book that grabbed me from the very first page and refused to let go. This isn't just another fated mates story; it’s a thrilling ride packed with a unique mythology, heart-stopping action, and characters you’ll instantly become invested in.

Our protagonist, an unnamed orphan girl, is thrown headfirst into a world she never knew existed when she literally collides with a gorgeous stranger one day. What follows is a whirlwind of demon attacks, mysterious saviors, and a secret society of winged warriors with a complicated history. The initial setup is fantastic – the heroine's understandable reaction to run from this bizarre new reality, rather than immediately embrace it, feels incredibly realistic and made me root for her from the start.

The world-building is richly detailed and seamlessly blends the familiar with the fantastical. The introduction of Invicta, the demon hunter headquarters, is compelling, and the descriptions of these winged warriors both the condescending angelic types and the brooding, powerful ones are vivid and engaging. The tension between our heroine and the arrogant Xavier, who claims her as his Ashanti, is palpable, and the added complexity of her potential bond with the enigmatic Kole… well, let’s just say the chemistry is off the charts!

What truly sets Sky Ice apart is the emotional depth. Our heroine's struggle with her broken heart and her initial distrust of everyone around her feels so authentic. This vulnerability, coupled with her budding powers and the looming demon threat, creates a compelling narrative that kept me turning pages late into the night. The inner conflict she faces - to run or fight - is brilliantly portrayed and makes her decision at the climax all the more impactful.

Sparks balances the supernatural intrigue with a developing romantic triangle that had me constantly shifting allegiances. Who will she choose? Will she even get to choose? The mystery surrounding her powers and the true nature of the demonic threat keeps you guessing right up until the end.

Sky Ice is a must-read for fans of paranormal romance, fated mates, and strong heroines. It’s a book filled with action, suspense, and a touch of heart-wrenching romance. E.G. Sparks has created a world that I can't wait to return to. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and eagerly await the next installment!

Sky Ice is such а fаntastic book. Essentiаlly, the novel focuses on Arien, a homeless teenager who is caught in a bаttle between аngels аnd demons. While on her way to visit her friend, she is аttacked by unnаtural beings, only to be rescued by angelic wаrriors. These warriors are the descendants of angels, to be more specific, and they call themselves Earthbounders. As it turns out, Arien is a lower rаnked Earthbounder herself, so she joins them on their crusаde against evil.

Overall, the narrаtive in this book is excellent. The action is plentiful. There is a bit of romance, here and there. This book has both intense аnd humorous moments. I was enthralled as soon as I began reаding it. I heаrtily urge anyone to read Sky Ice. It doesn't matter if you're a fan of fantasy literature, or not. Even though this book is slightly different from your averаge fantasy novel, I had an amazing experience reading it. In some ways, it is similar to a detective novel where the reader gradually learns more about Arien and her lineаge. Undoubtedly, there is more to Arien than first meets the eye. Generally speaking, the characters are all reаlistic, and perceptibly described. Some of them have relatаble personas. It makes me feel as if I'm included in their journey and experiences.

Unfortunаtely, there are a few times that a concept didn't cognitively resonate with me. At one point, I became completely invested in the storyline, only to reаlize that some of the concepts are a little chаllenging to follow. I would end up getting confused about some aspect of the storyline because it isn't explained to completion. This is the only reason I give this book 4 stars. Other than that, the storyline and world-building are magnificently structured. I personаlly observe a significant amount of growth and development in Arien's character during the novel's advancement. Then again, she is a resilient teen who has alwаys had to fight her way throughout life. All in all, reading this book is a fun experience. I enthusiastically look forward to part two.

I was NOT an ARC reader.

3.5 stars.

This book has a ton of potential but what it really, REALLY needs is both a proofreader and an editor. There is actual bad grammar and misspelled/misused words throughout the book, and some weird sentence structure. From an editing standpoint, the reader is filled in on finer details almost exclusively in one way: we hear about a new name/word/creature/place, are thrown about it because everyone is acting like it's normal, and then the FMC monologues about how "oh, I read that in a book." It's a very jarring experience, and I swear it happens five or six times. A lot of information is just dumped on us out of nowhere, including the concept of "the rebellion" and also things like titles/nicknames ("the soaz") for people we've only just met. BTW I finished the book and still know nothing about the rebellion...who's leading it? Is it different than the invading demons? There's also a lot of repetitive phrases...the MMCs' eyes are always twinkling or the corners of their mouths pulling up.

The FMC is a little endearing, and one of the only reasons I finished out the book. However, be warned, literally everyone is in love with her and thinks she's so hot. It's also another one of those "in her late teens and surrounded by ancient beings who are fascinated with her" books.

I WANT to read the second one because at its heart, it honestly is a good story and I've been enjoying it, but some of the above is so annoying that I'm not sure I can. I suppose I'll give it a shot and hope that there was a better editing team.

3.5/5

The book was very fast paced. And because it was really fast it did lack some details what could have made the book amazing. Because of the lack of details sometimes, its feels like your missing a lot of things. Like her having a condition, euhm... what condition ? She talks about angels and demons beeing real but its the first mention of demons.

calling people with powers 'The powers' isnt really original.
The Character paulie just left the fmc bhind to fend for herself, and she calls this a friend. So that was a bit sad.

I did love the tention between arien and kole. I hope they become a couple in book 2. I also really loved the found family part.
The first half of the book was alot of i got no clue whats going on. The the second half kept you hooked and you have to finish the book.

It does seem like a start up to a great series with alot of things that can happen.
I also would love to see some revenge in book 2. ( The bully getting it back from fmc)

My goodness I’m still trying to get my breath back. This book was fantastic. The characters were rich and well written and the world was beautifully created and laid out. Arien was so easy to envision and care for. I found myself on the edge of my seat rooting for her. I was ready to hunt down the Soaz and do some torturing of my own and Xavier was a horses patoot. Nasty person and Nelia I’m just not really sure about her too many secrets. The P6ers were confusing. They were so different than the Invictus group I was scrambling to try and catch up with them. Paulie was a prick straight up Arien needed to get and stay away from him he was not trustworthy. I’m anxiously waiting on the next book.

This book took a little while for me to get into, but then I read the whole second half in one go. The premise was really interesting, as was the plot. I'm intrigued to see where the story goes next.

Plot: The plot captured my attention and kept me reading. Even though I knew from pretty early on what was going on with Arien, I still wanted to read on and find out more. I think the pre-Invictus chapters could have been condensed - being homeless in Seattle wasn't terribly interesting, and I would've been drawn into the story earlier if it weren't filled with just that for several chapters. There are quite a lot of unanswered questions and secrets about the plot, but that is a good thing since it's a series - I still want to read future books to find them out!

Characters: Most of the characters were very strong and easily distinguishable. A few of the "bad guys" felt a tad flat (e.g. Paulyna was very stereotypical HS mean girl persona), but that's not a terrible problem since they don't appear often. However, Arien and Kole felt a bit blank-slatey to me for most of the book. Well, Kole doesn't even really show up until halfway through the book, but even then he says a grand total of about 5 sentences for the entire rest of the book, so I have a hard time buying any attachment to him beyond whatever purely animalistic instinct is there. All we know about him is he's dark and broody, and feels very protective of Arien. That's... not really a personality. Arien has more of a clear personality - she's stubbornly independent, snarky as a defense mechanism, protective of those she loves, and very guarded of her inner self and feelings due to, well, her life. But her problem is one of motivation - what is it? What does she want from life? Because it feels really really strange for a homeless girl with no family and no real job and no future prospects to NOT feel excited about being whisked away to a magical world where she will have a role and a home and friends. Sure, it was also a bit of a scary place and people were mean and egotistical, but Arien was dead-set against it before any of that became apparent, and still dead-set against it even after she was protected from a lot of that. So what exactly was she running from? Or to? Then she suddenly wanted to be a warrior, desperately. But why? This was never really explained, and feels at odds with her rampant need to run away every 10 seconds. In this sense, I felt like the first-person perspective was not really fully utilized - it often didn't feel like we were fully in Arien's head, but rather just outside it. We could see what she was doing, but not WHY. And that feels strange when it's in first-person POV.

Worldbuilding: The concept of the world seems pretty standard angels-and-demons lore at first, but later we find other elements woven in as well, which makes it a little more unique and interesting. However, the descriptions of the fantasy locations and races and creatures were severely lacking. The descriptions of Seattle were GREAT, but, well, I've been to Seattle and I don't particularly care about its homeless camps. What I wanted to read described at great length were the magical angel lands. Yet, the only place in Invictus that I can picture with any degree of clarity is the interrogation room, and that's because it was a tin box that could be described in 3 words. The rest of it? The Earthbounders themselves, other than wing and eye color? The demonic creatures? Absolutely no clue what any of it looks like. I mean we spent an entire scene chasing those chikachakas or whatever they're called, and then met them again later, and I have absolutely no idea what they look like! I'm picturing a marmoset, but that's just because they made high-pitched squeals like one. Now, P6 I have a much clearer picture of - there was much more description once we reached there. So I don't know why the Invictus descriptions were so lacking - scenes that got cut maybe? But I wish we had more descriptions there. Another issue - which may again be scenes that were cut? - is there seem to be strange jumps in explanation of lore/history. Like Arien will suddenly know things that we don't know and have no idea how she learned. For example, when she talks to Paulie about the soleil being returned, I'm fairly certain we never read about her knowing that location or that it was impenetrable or anything like that. So how did she know it? There were a bunch of other instances like this where I felt like I had missed whole pages or chapters or something because there were just gaps in finding things out that made no sense.

Writing: The prose was mostly clear and easy to read. There were a few amateurish tics, like calling eyes "orbs" or "pools," or using verbs that were trying to be poetic which ended up just being confusing (e.g., the word "materialize" has a very specific meaning in fantasy settings; don't use it when you just mean something moved into view). But for the most part these didn't bother me that much. My main issue with the writing was that scenes or dialogue were often skipped in favor of exposition. I would much rather have the dialogue or the full scene, not a summary. It felt like we were skipping the good stuff and just getting a dry wiki entry instead. I want the characters' voices! I want Arien's live thoughts on the matter! Again, it felt like the first-person POV was wasted here, when we could have had a lot more characterization framing these explanations rather than just dry summaries.

This was an amazing beginning of a series that drew me in and kept me reading to the end in one sitting. I had to keep reading to figure out what was going on. Poor Arien just could not catch a break and things just never let up. And the ending was amazing. Secrets and craziness abound in this new world she found herself in. Hints of what might be coming are dropped throughout and I cannot wait to see what happens next especially the way it ended.

It started a bit slow, but I quickly found myself absorbed in the world and am now impatiently awaiting the next book. So the romance is very low key but I really enjoyed the character developments as not everything is clear cut, new details emerge throughout. The world building is interesting and was the real draw for me. I am interested in reading the next. I put off finishing this one to make it last longer.

Wings, Wounds, and One Hell of a Destiny
Alright y’all, let me just say—I picked up Sky Ice expecting the usual fantasy romance ride. You know, girl-meets-hot-guy-who-glows, some tension, a few demon skirmishes, and maybe a happy kiss in the end. But NOPE. E.G. Sparks had other plans. This book didn’t just hook me—it hurled me headfirst into a winged world of secrets, survival, and sizzling slow-burn angst, and I am so here for it.
Let’s talk about our heroine. She's an orphan, yes, but not your typical “woe is me” type. She’s lonely, sure—but she’s scrappy, self-aware, and so deeply human it hurt. The way she clings to her independence even when literal angelic warriors drag her into their world? Chef’s kiss. She’s not here to be saved—she’s here to save herself, even if it means falling on her face (or out of the sky) a few times.
Now enter the chaos duo: Xavier and Kole. One’s a broody, arrogant alpha who thinks claiming you fixes everything (Xavier, I’m looking at you). The other? Dark, soft-eyed danger who had me melting before our girl even knew his name (Kole, hello sir). And me? I’m sitting here torn between them, needing answers, and begging for just one of them to stop smoldering for like five seconds so I can breathe.
Add in Invicta—this shadowy Hogwarts-meets-the-Vatican training ground—and a demon threat that’s not just creepy but cosmically wrong, and yeah… I was glued to the page. The vibes? Immaculate. The pacing? Smooth like obsidian wings slicing through moonlight. The emotional stakes? Through the freakin’ roof.
Let’s not pretend the cliffhanger didn’t make me throw my Kindle and yell, “OH NO YOU DIDN’T, SPARKS!” But also? I secretly loved it. Because now I’m haunted by every look, every half-truth, every moment she questioned if love and power could coexist.
Highlights:
✔️ Reluctant, fierce heroine I want to high-five and hug
✔️ Alpha/beta fated-mates triangle of delicious tension
✔️ Beautiful worldbuilding that drips with danger and desire
✔️ Deep emotional themes wrapped in action and mystery
✔️ Soul-stretching slow burn that hurts so good
Spice level: A slow sizzle... but the tension is where it’s at. You feel every look. Every breath. Every almost.
Final thoughts:
Sky Ice isn’t just a fantasy romance—it’s a revelation wrapped in feathers, fire, and fate. If you love your heroines with bite, your men with secrets, and your story with a side of soul-deep yearning, grab this book and buckle up.
Just be warned: Sparks doesn’t hand you answers. She dangles them like candy and dares you to beg for more. And me? I’m already crawling to Book 2 whispering, “I need closure—or chaos. Honestly, either works.”
Rating: 10/10—I am fully claimed by this series. 🖤🪽💥

Talk about a wild ride and we're only just getting started. That cliffhanger left me hanging, but it’s clear this is going to be one of those trilogies — the kind you have to devour from start to finish just to get the full picture. Welcome to Invicta: part elite academy, part demon-hunting HQ, and home to a whole lot of secrets. It’s where Arien, our fiercely independent heroine, finds herself after a demon attack rips away the veil of her ordinary life. Suddenly, she’s plunged into a hidden world teeming with demons, angels, and an entire spectrum of supernatural beings — and Arien isn’t exactly roll out the welcome mat, feeling like a total fish out of water in a place where everyone seems to know more than she does. But that’s part of what makes her so compelling. The world-building here is seriously top-tier. The imagery pops off the page, and yet you just know there’s still so much more lurking beneath the surface. As an orphan, Arien’s past has left her guarded, but it’s also forged her into someone who follows their heart with grit and guts, even when it might be smarter to take a step back. She’s snarky and armed with a feisty personality that adds spark to every confrontation, especially with the infuriatingly arrogant Xavier. And speaking of Xavier, he claims Arien as his Ashanti, but there’s more to that dynamic than meets the eye. And let’s not ignore the slow-burning, mysterious tension between her and the enigmatic Kole. Love triangle, anyone? Maybe. Maybe not. But the chemistry is definitely there. Despite whispers of angelic ancestry, Arien is gloriously flawed and I especially appreciated Arien’s inner conflict. Unsure, mistrustful, torn between the urge to run and the desire to fight, her struggles feel real and raw. She is light and fire, strength and fear, all at once and watching her walk the blade’s edge between destiny and defiance is mesmerizing. With the demonic threat, secrets coiling tighter, emotions running high and hearts caught in a storm of choice and consequence, this story is an irresistible blend of danger, desire, and divine intrigue. Turn the pages and be prepared to lose yourself, because once Invicta claims you, there’s no going back.
