My boyfriend left me a year ago...but sometimes you have to fight for true love, right?
When Clayton breaks off our relationship to find someone more "serious" in law school, I'm devastated but not defeated. I just have to show him I have brains as well as brawn.
I study hard to get into law school and prove myself. But when I get there, ready to reclaim my man, he's moved on...to the snootiest rich boy I've ever met.
His new fiance pits the other students against me. I'm ostracized from their study groups and their parties--and I'm never left out of a party!
I think about quitting, but my friend Jordan keeps me going. He's a rock solid support as he helps me prepare for the demanding coursework, study case law, and prove that I deserve to be here. When I land an internship to work on a real legal case, it seems it's all paid off. And most surprising of all? I love this lawyering thing!
Clayton, on the other hand, is looking less appealing by the day.
Jordan is the one I want to talk to morning and night. The one I can count on to support me. The one who gives me...wet dreams?
Whoa. Maybe I don't need to fight for true love after all. Maybe I just need to review the evidence, the way I've been learning all year.
The verdict?
I've fallen in love with my best friend.
Legally Brawn is Book 3 of the Rom-Com Rebbot series, in which classic Hollywood rom-coms get an M/M spin, along with some heat and a satisfying HEA!
DJ Jamison writes a variety of queer men finding extraordinary love through M/M Romance! She is a lifelong reader and has always loved writing and editing, with a ten-year journalism career before she began publishing romance. She has books in ebook, print, and audio, as well as German, French, and Italian translations.
DJ lives in Kansas with her husband, two sons, and a sadistic cat named Birdie.
This is totally a me problem, but again I just could not get into this book.
So, Legally Blonde was one of the first DVDs I got when I was 14....like a really long time ago because I'm in my late thirties now, and my annoying brain just could not stop from picturing Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair, Luke Wilson etc... It made it impossible for me to connect to the book character's because I was like, oh yeah, remember Elle's bunny suit and Vivian's cardigan and pearls combo.... Why is this my brain 😂😂😂 I just could not visualise a male counterpart to Reese and Selma AT ALL!!! Jordan looked exactly like Luke Wilson... Ugh, so frustrating because I know I would have had fun with this otherwise!
Until the midway point it was soooo close to the original, just with guys, that I seriously struggled. I do like how the court case was more tailored to Ellis's fitness knowledge, and that Callahan wasn't a sleazy bastard, but yeah I just don't think I can do reboots when I know the original so well. I've watched Legally Blonde over fifty times, my family is predominantly female and even now my teenage nieces still watch it, so it's something that's still so fresh in my mind 😂
I had the exact same problem with You've Got Male because You've Got Mail has been one of my comfort films for decades. The only one I was fine with was book one, because I have never watched Sleepless in Seattle so I had no comparisons to make!
I do love how everything always links back to Granville though, and I'm looking forward to reading Knockin' Boats because I do love a good rivals to lovers story.
I needed something lighthearted to distract me from my hurricane induced worries. What better way to do that than read a book loosely inspired by Legally Blonde? I needed this romcom retelling. It was a magical balm to my soul.
Ellis decided to apply to law school to win back his snake of an ex. Ellis is a sunshine golden retriever of a man, a personal trainer, and his favorite color is pink. His brain is a muscle, and he puts it to work! Thankfully, his bestie Jordan is helping with all the studying and everything else that comes with law school.
Jordan has been in love with his best friend Ellis since the beginning of their friendship. Jordan also has no hope Ellis would ever choose him. Jordan is the brainiac, the brain to Ellis' brawn.
I loved this story. It was so cute. SO CUTE. And just different enough to be fun and familiar at the same time. I loved these characters, and I'm so glad they got their HEA. LEGALLY BRAWN would be perfect for fans of the movie or fans of a good friends to lovers romcom. It's available now!
"I think he's been yours all along. He was just waiting for you to see it."
Ellis and Jordan were just so freaking cute!! Actually come to think of it, every single one of these Rom Com Reboot novellas have been. There is something so fun in reading DJ Jamison put their MM spin on popular romantic comedies. As a big fan of legally blonde, I was excited when I realized it was going to be the "theme" of Ellis and Jordan's book.
Ellis was such a sunshine character. He radiated kindness and joy in his life and others. I cannot for the life of me think how his ex Clayton thought he could do better than a man like him. Lucky for Ellis, he does have a man in his life that treats him exactly the way he deserves. The problem is that man is Ellis' best friend Jordan. A man whom Ellis has no idea is in love with him.
Jordan may not always know to how to say the right things, but his actions speak louder than his words. He's in love with Ellis, but he also respects that Ellis thinks himself to be in love with another man. Knowing friendship is all that is on the table, Jordan continually supports Ellis in his endeavors whether or not it hurts him in return.
It doesn't take long for Ellis to realize what a mistake he's made in pining after his ex. Being in law school means spending quite a bit of time with Jordan and this causes Ellis to start to see all the ways in which his best friend differs from his ex. What would it be like to be in love with a man like Jordan? A person who cares for him and goes out of his way to make Ellis happy. Thankfully Ellis doesn't have to wonder for long because true to his personality he takes the bull by the horns and finds out for himself leading our two MCs into the sweet as pie HEA I was hoping for.
This was so cute! It had all the good things of legally blonde with enough new twists to keep it interesting. And the way Ellis and Jordan fell in love? Swoon!
Legally Brawn by DJ Jamison is part of her Rom-Com Reboot series. It is a sweet retelling of the movie ‘Legally Blonde’ but the main characters are male. Ellis Woods is a personal trainer who is majoring in nutrition in college. He is in love with Clayton Warner III who is going to go to law school and when he is invited to dinner at a very fancy restaurant, he thinks he is going to get a proposal but instead is told that their relationship is over because Clayton needs a partner who can keep up with him and has brains over brawn. Ellis is heartbroken and decides he is going to go to law school to show Clayton that he is just as smart and driven as he is and to get him back as his boyfriend. He gets help from his friend group who get together to watch a movie every week, but especially from Jordan Maddox who is his best friend and also studying to be a lawyer. A year later, with Jordan’s help, he passes the LSAT and gets into law school. At his first class he runs into Clayton and finds out he is engaged to Victor, who is snarky and tries to one up and humiliate him every chance he gets. He also gets dressed down from his teacher, Professor Callahan, and all these things make him want to do better so he can become a good lawyer and win Clayton back. Jordan happens to be the TA for the class and when Vic makes it so he can’t get into a study group he helps him out. Jordan has been in love with El since he met him but feels he is dorky and nerdy and El would never want him to be more than a friend. However, when they get together in El’s room to study, they have a moment and El starts to have some feelings that aren’t just in the friendship range for him. This continues when El gets Jordan to come to the gym for a consultation and sees something in his eyes that makes him start to doubt his relationship with Clayton. Then Callahan makes Jordan the lead on a case involving a lawsuit and that he will choose 3 interns to work with him. Ellis, Clayton, and Vic are chosen to do this. He gets invited to a party where he dresses in a very skimpy outfit and when he gets there he realizes that Clayton and Vic have tricked him just to humiliate him. But he holds his head up high and Jordan comes to rescue him after he saw a picture of his costume. They dance and kiss and the rest is history. They went back to El’s dorm room and had a very hot love scene. The story continues as they work on the case and eventually win it and Clayton gets what he deserves in the end. And even though Ellis was oblivious at first, he finally realizes he loves Jordan, and his friends are not surprised because they knew this would eventually happen. I really enjoyed this story. It follows the ‘Legally Blonde’ story line almost to a T, including the funny scene with one of his gym clients where she stands up and hits a prospective boyfriend in the nose, Clayton and Vic being mean to Ellis, Professor Callahan only wanting cases that will earn lots of money and prestige for his firm, Clayton getting what is coming to him, and El and Jordan both figuring out what they want to do with their law degrees and falling in love in the end. The deposition where El and Jordan crack the case is also very satisfying. Ellis is a good guy with a heart of gold and a way with words that puts people at ease. Jordan is somewhat nerdy and is great with details but not so good in front of a lot of people. Together they make a great team, both in their careers and their lives together. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like retellings of movies because this one does that and more and includes lots of excitement, angst, and finally love that will leave a smile on your face.
Here's D.J. Jamison's "Legally Brawn." It's the third and final novel in their new Rom-Com Reboot series.

This book was SO cute! It followed "Legally Blonde" so well but DJ also made this its own. It was glorious. There was even a modified bend-and-snap moment!
Jordan was in love with El for sooooo long (and everyone knew), so helping El get into law school to get Clayton back was bittersweet. He'd do everything and anything to make El happy, even if it broke his own heart in the process.
Ellis thought he knew exactly what he wanted, and he was willing to do a lot to get it, even if it wasn't originally in his plans. But getting into law school and getting even closer to Jordan, he was getting to know himself better. Turns out, he loved law just as much as he loved personal training (and he might not love Clayton as much as he thought he did).
Watching Vic get humbled, watching Clayton get the karma he deserved, and watching Jordan/Ellis fall into their perfect HEA was beautiful. DJ knocked yet another one right out of the park.
I am loving all the retellings of some of my favourite movies, and this m/m retelling of Legally Blonde was just cute as can be.
Jordan and Ellis add the in love with the best friend twist to the story, and adds just another layer of goodness.
If you have every watched Legally Blonde, you will know how the story goes and there will be no surprises, however Jamison gives us what they always give us -wonderful characters, sweet and sexy dialogue and a story that will leave you smiling.
I have enjoyed the Rom-Com Reboot series, and hope we get more in the future
Copy received from Neon Rainbow Reviews for an honest review
Book three in the Rom-Com series. It's just as wonderful as the other two. And that I got to see already known characters from the other books again made it even better ;)
- friend to lovers - plays with stereotypes, the dumb jock/gym bro is not the slightest bit dumb
To be honest I don't know 'legally blond' so can't compare how good it fits. But I really liked the story. It was easy to read and so much fun. I had trouble putting it down to sleep and the next free moment I had, I had to read more.
I like DJ's writing style and this story was not an exception. She delivers everything I'm expecting. Wonderful MCs, good story, feelings and a HEA.
In this case we have Ellis, a jock/gym rat who discovers that he likes law and has a knack for it even if he gave it a try because of the wrong reasons ^^
I think even if Ellis was a bit 'dumb and blind' regarding his ex, I instantly fell in love with him. He was just a wonderful positive and upbeat person. Kind, honest & genuine as well as compassionate and caring. A human golden retriever or cinnamon roll so to speak. I really wished for him to see what was more than obvious for me ^^ Man was I glad when he started to realise some things.
Jordan was so in love with Ellis, I could hardly understand how Ellis couldn't see it XD I wanted to shake both and tell them to TALK with each other
I was rooting for those two and honestly happy when Ellis started to recognise his feelings for his friend at the same time as realising that his ex was the wrong person for him. Clay really didn't deserve him anyway. Instead I think Jordan and Ellis fit well together and deserved each other and this epic love.
Overall an easy to read, fun story with well fleshed out and likeable characters. It kept me well entertained. If I have to pick I'd say this one is my favourite of the three. Perhaps because of the play with the stereotypes. I just love gym rats/jocks who are way more intelligent and compassionate than you'd expect.

Official Description:
Sometimes you have to fight for true love....
When my boyfriend dumps me to find someone more "serious" in law school, I'm devastated but not defeated. I just have to show him I have brains as well as brawn, right?
Thankfully, my best friend Jordan is ready and willing to help me get into law school and prove myself. Only when I get there, ready to reclaim my man, Clay's move on.
To the snarkiest gay boy I've ever met.
And they're engaged!
It's a terrible shock, but Jordan keeps me going. When I'm ostracized from a study group, he helps me prepare for exams. When I'm set up to make a fool of myself at a college party, he's there to rescue me.
After I land an internship to work on a real legal case, it seems it's all paid off. And most surprising of all? I love this lawyering thing!
Clayton, on the other hand, is looking less appealing by the day.
Jordan is the one I want to talk to morning and night. The one I can count on to support me. The one who...I really want to kiss?
Whoa. Maybe it's time to review the evidence and decide once and for all.
Have I been fighting for the wrong man? And will Jordan forgive me that justice has been so blind?
Once again this Rom-Com Reboot hits the mark and gets 10s across the board. Ellis Woods has the brawn and the brains but the latter is often overlooked by the former. When a long term relationship ends in a breakup and not an engagement, he's determined to change course literally. He decides the best way to impress and win back his ex, who claimed he wasn't enough and couldn't be on the arm of a corporate lawyer is to be a lawyer too. Jordan on the other hand is a promising double MBA and JD candidate who is in love with his best friend but he used to not be the chosen romantic choice. But when his best friend needs him, he's there to tutor him and with an acceptance in hand they will all be in school together. However upon arrival Clayton has moved on with Victor and both feel like El is a big joke from his first day of class outfit to his job to his overall skill in the classroom. With Victor attempting to run El out of the picture once again Jordan is there to be a study buddy and ally. He comes to his BFFs' rescue repeatedly but the ultimate rescue at a party leads to a major discovery: feelings. After a misstep in communication, the guys aren't sure how to proceed but El takes the lead and gets his guy. It's so fun to see El realize that he truly did not see what was right in front of him but he really needed to grow into his own and gain additional levels of confidence.
The Reboot also gives us a law case that will absolutely have your heart as well as stirs up the drama as Clay, Victor and El are all chosen to work on the case with Jordan as lead. El's work as a personal trainer comes into play and helps both El and Jordan realize they want no future in corporate law.
This is a fun and quick read and a fun take on Legally Blonde. As always DJ delivers with likeable characters, witty banter and a well deserved HEA. And that bonus chapter at the end 🥰🥰🥰. Perfect way to check in on all of our guys!
LEGALLY BRAWN is the third installment in the Rom-Com Reboot series. It is a standalone read but it reads better if you read in the order that the author intended to get the full view of each of the characters.
Ellis is working as a personal trainer at a gym, he loves his job. He has what he thinks is the perfect boyfriend. Ellis is ready for the next step in their relationship, and he thinks his boyfriend is too until he’s dumped because he’s not focused enough on his future. Ellis will do anything to win Clayton back including studying like crazy and getting into law school. He finds out Clayton has moved on and is engaged but that doesn’t deter Ellis.
Jordan is best friends with Ellis. He’s been in love with Ellis since they met. He’ll do anything to make Ellis happy even if that means watching him pine over his ex. He agrees to be his tutor to help him study which only makes it harder for Jordan to keep his feelings in check. Will Ellis ever see that Clayton isn’t the man for him and Jordan is the perfect match for him.
I loved this friends to lovers read. I love the retelling of these rom coms. Ellis is the biggest heart and doesn’t see the bad in people and didn’t see how much of jerk his ex was. Jordan was willing to risk his happiness and being with Ellis as long as he knew he was happy. The only thing that bothered me was when there was the realization that Ellis was interested in more with Jordan there was one quick hook up and then the confessions of being in love, and a few pages before Ellis was in love with Clayton. it just seemed super quick and instantly pulled me from the story. Other than that it was a fun read. I'm thoroughly enjoying this series and can't wait for more.
I was given a free copy of this book to read and review by Neon Rainbow Reviews.
Legally Blonde is one of my favorite rom-com movies and I was super glad that this series decided to follow that story! These have been so fun, reimagining those classic movies with a twist. Our main guys is Ellis and Jordan. Ellis is determined to win his ex back. After being dumped for not being serious and being only a personal trainer, Ellis sets out to prove to Clay that he has what it takes to be a lawyer just like him. And hopefully he can win him back. With the help of his best friend, Jordan, helping him study, he achieves his goal and gets into law school. Just to find out that Clay has moved on and his engaged. But Ellis won’t give up… or will he? Jordan has been in love with Ellis for a long time and has settled for the idea that Ellis will never see him that way. He has tried to tell Ellis he deserves more than Clay but there is only so much his heart can take. Now he has a front row seat watching Ellis do amazing things in law school. All his friends tell him to fight for Ellis but could he really fight if he wants Ellis to be happy? These two were the cutest. I loved how Ellis slowly was opening his eyes to what was right in front of him the whole time. Little by little he realized how much he has changed and that what he thought he felt for Clay maybe wasn’t what he once thought. And when he starts feeling attracted to Jordan? Well things definitely shift. And I loved Jordan trying to just be the best friend he could be even if it was breaking his heart. But he loves Ellis so much and it shows! Such a fun story and end to this series. You don’t want to miss this one!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
🩷 Best Friends to Lovers 🩷 Golden Retriever MC 🩷 MM Legally Blonde Reboot 🩷 Rom-Com 🩷 Personal Trainer/Law Student x TA 🩷 Pining & Longing 🔥 Mild Dirty Talk
This book is an MM retelling of the film Legally Blonde. Much of the books plot is the same as the original movie, but tailored to the fact that Ellis is a man with a passion for fitness.
The story as a whole was very sweet and low angst, with plenty of fluffy and wholesome moments. Ellis was such a sweet character. Though people saw him as more of a himbo, he was actually an incredibly smart and determined man with a golden retriever personality.
I did however have a couple of issues with the book. There were a lot of random side characters that i found distracted from the main story, rather than adding much to the book. I also wish there was more character development. Ellis's feelings for Jordan seemed to almost appear overnight and didn't feel organic to me at all. I would have liked a little more build up and for him to have not been still thinking about his ex-boyfriend Clayton twenty four hours before professing his love for Jordan.
Overall, this wasn't my favourite book by DJ Jamison but I did still enjoy the sweet mc's and Romcom vibe. If you like the Legally Blonde movie and enjoy reading endearing MM romances then you're likely to enjoy this story.
This is my honest and voluntary review for the ARC I received.
This is the third book in DJ Jamison’s Rom-Com Reboot series. I loved Legally Blonde and I adore Legally Brawn! Ellis and Jordan are best friends. Ellis is enamored with Clay, until Clay dumps him to find someone else that meets his “needs.” Ellis is a personal trainer. Clay is attending law school. Clay is an absolute tool and Ellis is an utter delight. He’s so sweet and genuine. Clay never deserved him.
Jordan is working towards an MBA and law degree all at once. He’s in love with Ellis, but hasn’t said anything since they are friends, and because Ellis is fixated on getting Clay back. As Jordan helps Ellis with law school, Ellis begins to see Jordan in a different light. He’s very thoughtful and supportive of Ellis in a way that Clay never was. The friends grow closer.
As they spend even more time together, the MCs experience mutual attraction. Things get heated after a kiss at a party, and their friendship morphs into something more. I love Ellis and Jordan together. They complement one another very well with their different personalities and demeanor. I was happy that Ellis falls in love with the law…and Jordan. I was happy that Jordan finally gets his man, and that he figures out what kind of law he wants to focus on.
It was great seeing the rest of the friend group reappear in this story. They cheer Jordan and Ellis on to their happily ever after. This story is sweet and will make you smile. It’s a great addition to Jamison’s series and you should definitely give it a read.
4.25 Stars Legally Brawn by DJ Jamison is book 3 in the Rom-Com Reboot series. This is a retelling of Legally Blonde starring two men. This is what I consider the very definition of a rom-com. This book also features best friends to lovers.
Ellis Woods is in college studying nutrition while he works at a gym as a personal trainer. Hes been in a long term relationship and all things are pointing to a future together. When Clayton invites him to a high end restaurant, he's expecting a proposal... he gets dumped instead. He isn't the "right type" of partner for a future lawyer. So Ellis decides to go to law school and win his ex back. Too bad Clayton has moved on.
Jordan Maddox has been in love with his best friend, Ellis, since basically the first time they met. It hurts to watch Ellis go after his ex but he helps him study and rock his L-SATs. Once the school year starts, he does his best to still help Ellis pass his classes and to keep his spirits up. One night, they begin to see each other just a bit differently and there are fireworks going off everywhere.
This story is sweet and a VERY easy and quick read. I enjoyed how the case they worked on related to Ellis' job and the author wrapped it all up. It was a fun plot turn.
I really enjoyed the story and differences that the author made to make it just different enough from the movie. These men were hot, hot, hot. This is perhaps my favorite book in the series and I encourage everyone to read them.

This is the third book in the Rom-Com Reboot series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. This book is the male version of the movie Legally Blonde. This is the story of Ellis Woods and Jordan Maddox. Ellis is a personal trainer who majored in nutrition at college. Jordan is at university studying to become a lawyer. Ellis and Jordan are best friends. The book starts out with Ellis being dumped by his boyfriend because he isn't the kind of guy that will reflect well on him. He needs one with brains. Since Ellis is still in love with him, he studies hard and gets accepted into law school. His hard work and Jordan's prep paid off. Now he can show his ex that he is smart and good enough to get back together again. But his ex has moved on and his new fiancé is not happy to see Ellis. He deliberately tries to make life difficult for Ellis. Thankfully Jordan is there to keep his spirits up and help where he can. Jordan is having his own troubles as well. The only thing worse than being in love is being in love with someone who wants someone else. This is their story. I really liked the relationship between Jordan and Ellis. The book is written well and is easy to read. It is a sweet story that is fun to read. Even knowing the movie, I still enjoyed the book.
I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from Neon Rainbows and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ellis is wanting his ex-boyfriend back so much that he gets into law school to prove to Clayton that he can be someone besides what he thinks of him. His friend Jordan helps him do this. It takes time, but at start of the book Ellis comes in saying he's gotten in. Poor Jordan's crushing on Ellis so much, but doesn't want to be rejected since Ellis is wanting Clayton back. He doesn't say anything, but their friends can easily tell. It takes some time, but thankfully Ellis sees the light and that Jordan is for him and Clayton isn't.
The first half of the book I was shouting at Ellis to see the light and how much Jordan would be worth more. I was so happy that DJ fixed some of those things that the movie this was a spin on had. The first being that horrible pervy professor who's name I can't remember. I was so glad that part didn't make it into this because it wasn't needed. I loved the new case that they had to do because it fit with Ellis'. He knows his gym things being a personal trainer. I loved Maggie so much and that scene with her getting her man was perfect.
Jordan and Ellis getting together was so awesome. I also was happy with the ending after law school. I'm going to miss these characters so much. I hope someday we get another one maybe or a holiday glimpse back into the world. Maybe in book two that movie drop about My Best Friend's wedding will come into play. There was also small throw back to the Games We Play series about Granville and I loved that.
Ellis is a nutrition major and personal trainer with the body of an Adonis. When Clayton breaks up with him instead of proposing, citing a need to get serious about his five year plan, Ellis decides to get into law school. Luckily, his best friend is a TA in the program and grad student Jordan is willing to help Ellis be successful in law school. Jordan doesn’t, however, want Ellis to succeed in getting back together with Clayton, who’s now engaged to cranky twink Victor. That’s because Jordan has a crush on his BFF Ellis.
Many shenanigans ensue on campus, at the gym and at a law office. Although there are references to the rom com it’s rebooting, Legally Blonde (such as the “costume party” scenerio), Jamison keeps things fresh and interesting with the character development. Ellis and Jordan are so cute bumbling around their growing feelings for one another. Both of them also struggle to realize what they want to do for careers, which is realistic for the age group and setting. The nods to the original movie (Ellis’ last name is also Woods, the supervising lawyer is Callahan) are fun for fans of the romantic comedy, but rest assured this is not a retelling, but a new story with parallels.
Jamison has long excelled at creating beautiful found family and this series is no exception. 5 stars for this cute and sexy novella.
I absolutely adored this MM spin on Legally Blonde! Ellis was such a lovable, friendly guy, and his friendship with Jordie was really cute to watch. It took me barely any time at all to see what a loser Clayton was and fall in love with the idea of Ellis and Jordie together, and the two of them had a very entertaining journey towards a relationship. I got invested in the law school storyline easily, and I thought the fitness-oriented case they were assigned was an interesting twist to the original plot that came to a satisfying conclusion. Ellis's kind-heartedness and ease of talking to people paired perfectly with Jordan's detail-oriented, sharp mind, and it made me so happy when El finally let go of his desire to win Clayton back and saw what had been standing in front of him the entire time. He and Jordie had some delightfully steamy moments together, and with each other's support there was nothing that could get in the way of them pursuing their dreams. I was smiling or laughing pretty much the entire time I was reading, and the ending had just the right balance of realism and happy bliss to leave me certain that Ellis and Jordie would be together for the rest of their lives.
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
Such a sweet and cute retelling of the Legally Blonde movie!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fluffy, low-angst story of Ellis Woods, a sunshiney, brawny personal trainer turned law student, and Jordan, his best friend, LSAT tutor, and then law class TA/mentor. Ellis is so determined to get his ex back that he pulls out all the stops in trying to become a more serious (love) partner and off he goes to law school. Once he gets there, though, he remains true to who he is and in the course of of studying law, he begins to see what - and who - is truly important. Until he does, though, poor Jordan is there pining for him and supporting him all the while.
This book has great banter & snark! Also, there are lots of funny and sweet moments. And when certain words are exchanged....swoon! Honestly, Ellis is just such a dreamy book boyfriend!
I love the found family aspect of this entire series. While I haven't yet read the first two books, I was easily able to immerse myself in this book and not feel I was missing anything. I am eager to read the rest of the series as well as other books by this author. This is my first book by her, but it certainly won't be my last.
Thanks to Neon Rainbow Reviews for this ARC - I am leaving this review voluntarily.
DJ Jamison absolutely nailed this rom-com reboot. What, like it's hard?🤣 Ellis Woods is a buff, blond personal trainer with golden retriever energy. The endorphins make him happy, after all! He thinks his boyfriend, Clayton, is about to propose, but he gets dumped instead. Clayton says he needs a more serious partner for his future, not just a fun one like Ellis. He decides to go to law school to win back Clayton and his best friend Jordan helps him study. The hard part? Jordan has a major crush on Ellis and hates seeing him fight for his lame ex.
Jordan is finishing his law degree and is the TA of Ellis' hardest class. They get picked to work a case together, along with Clayton and his new fiancé, Victor. If you love "Legally Blonde," you'll absolutely adore this one.
🔥: So steamy! Once Ellis sees what's right in front of him, these two are insatiable. Scenes are medium-paced with graphic details. 😆: I got a kick out of all the parallels between "Legally Blonde" and this book. It's impossible to read this one without smiling. 😭: No tears!
This is a blast! Jordan and Ellis are adorable together and their found family is the cutest.
Received an ARC of the next rom-com reboot and it was so fun! An MM version of Legally Blonde and it totally held up! Ellis’ boyfriend breaks up with him when he gets into law school and claims the personal trainer isn’t serious enough for him so Ellis decides to prove he is and gets into law school. Only Clayton is engaged but Ellis isn’t giving up. With the help of his friend Jordan, he learns maybe he is more than just muscle and discovers who he is.
Reasons I Recommend:
1) Love this group of friends who watch movies together and how each of them has their own little rom-com story
2) Jordan is hopelessly in love with his friend and determined to hide it until he sees Ellis dressed as a fireman after a prank gone wrong and
I'm sorry to see that the Rom-Com Reboot series is over. But Jordan definitely waited long enough for his Ellis. I wasn't a fan of the pining, torch bearing, long suffering Jordan at the start. He tells Ellis not to shape his life around Clayton, but isn't he doing the same thing? For me, the best part of best friends to lovers stories is the "aha" moment. And DJ Jamison does not disappoint. Ellis finally realizes Jordan's feelings and it only takes one very public kiss for that "aha". Their chemistry sizzles off the pages. Lots of banter and fun times in the bedroom. Steamy fun and cheesy dialog. And sweet, sweet love. Their friend group are all supportive. Clayton, the villain, is an oblivious jerk, made worse because he doesn't realize how awful his worldview is. Rival Vic is sassy and only slightly evil. Great worldbuilding, even though it is a rather cynical look at the law. Looks like there's a hint of a future series. But if not, we'll still have Swallow Cove. I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.
Legally Brawn is the final story in a series of fun retellings, this one of Legally Blonde. DJ Jamison was very creative in the way she told the story of Ellis and Jordan, two friends to lovers.
This isn't a rinse and repeat version of the popular movie, there was enough about the storyline changed to keep it interesting, while at the same time familiar. Ellis was absolutely loveable, if a little dense at times. Jordan was so sweet and loyal. He has been in love with Ellis, but refuses to share his feelings because he wants Ellis to have everything he wants, even if it means breaking his own heart in the process.
For most of the characters, it is easy to identify their counterparts, but I found Jamison's versions much more likeable (except Clayton, of course. What a jerk!). I actually really liked Victor and thought he was hilarious. I'd love to see a sequel where he gets his HEA.
Overall, this was a fun, easy read and perfect for a quiet afternoon when I wanted something a little more light-hearted.
If you haven't read any of the RomCom Reboot series yet, this is your sign! Seriously, I think this is my favorite. It probably helps that Legally Blonde is a favorite of mine, but DJ Jamison nailed every single part of this book. I was thrilled with the reinterpretation from the beginning until The End. Chef's kiss perfection!
Ellis Woods is a personal trainer and gym rat extraordinaire. He's good at his job and loves helping people change their lives. Until his boyfriend dumps him on the evening he thought he'd be saying "yes". That's the beginning of Ellis' transformation into the person he thinks Clayton deserves. Jordan has been secretly in love with his best friend for years. When Ellis decides to become a lawyer to win Clayton back, Jordan agrees to become his mentor and study trainer.
This is such a fun take on the original movie and I enjoyed every minute of reading it! DJ Jamison once again proves what a talented author she is and produces genuinely funny characters/predicaments through her books. And I'm here for all of it.
Have loved this series. Ellis was thinking Clayton was ready to propose when he takes him to a super fancy restaurant but gets dumped instead. Ellis spends the next year studying for the LSAT with his best friend Jordan in an effort to get into law school and win Clayton back. Jordan's heart was breaking because he had been in love with Ellis for years. But if you love someone you want them to be happy, and Clayton makes Ellis happy. Arriving at his first class, Ellis runs into Clayton and surprise, surprise Clayton's fiance Vic. Vic is a real piece of work, but for some unknown reason Ellis still wants Clayton. Ellis really flourishes in law school and is tapped to intern with Jordan along with Clay and Vic, of course. Working on the case opens Ellis' eyes to how nasty Clayton really is and even comes to realize Vic isn't as bad anymore. Jordan and Ellis come to the realization that corporate law may not be their cup of tea.
1st person, past tense, dual POV Ellis Woods, personal trainer / first year law student Jordan Maddox, MBA/law student
First, full disclosure. I LOVE Legally Blonde. I've rewatched it innumerable times, so you'd better believe that when I saw there was an MM retelling I raced to get an ARC, despite having already bitten off more than I can chew on that front for the month of August.
It was such a fun read, it delivered all it promised to and more. I got such a kick out of Legally Blonde being Ellis's favourite movie. Although it is the third of the Rom-Com Reboot series, this can be read as a standalone. The other friends in the friendship group that have their own stories appear only as supporting characters and while enough context is given so the reader knows who that are and how they relate to each other no real spoilers for their stories are given.
If you loved Legally Blonde you are going to enjoy this. I liked that while there were no real surprises, since I'm familiar with the movie, there were enough small differences to keep it fresh. Ellis is such a sweet beefcake and Jordie is just a kind-hearted brainiac and they worked so well together supportive and caring. I loved the growth both characters experience as they discover who they are and what they want for their future. My favourite thing in a romance is seeing both character working together to accomplish as goal so the lawsuit case they were working together was like catnip for me. I adored everything.
I was given an ARC and voluntarily wrote an honest review.

Book 3 in the Rom-Com Reboot series had me swooning and giggling as I watched two sweeties finally come together.
Ellis is a personal trainer who heads off to law school to prove to his ex that he’s smart and win him back. Jordan is his best friend who helps him study and get into law school…and he’s madly in love with Ellis.
As Ellis begins to see the true nature of his ex and his eyes begin opening to the gorgeous, wonderful man his friend is, his world is turned upside down. And Jordan finally stands for what he wants and chooses a future that fits him and Ellis into it.
Loved seeing and the guys and Becca. Love the found family trope. Loved how sweet and sexy and quick this read was. Another hit for me!
