Three hundred years have passed since the moss covered the world. It began in Guatemala, from the caldera of the Volcano de Agua, spreading out to engulf everything in its path. Civilization crumbled under its weight, and humanity has become an endangered species, living in shelters. Now, a new set of threats are emerging from the source of the moss. A teenage hunter named Troy has been called upon to join an expedition to discover what is happening in Guatemala and why. One hundred hunters will walk from the remains of Texas to their goal. Their journey will take them into places that are beyond dangerous to both life and sanity. Troy must be at his best every step of the way to survive, but the moss and the foibles of humanity itself threaten to tear his world apart.

David has imagined an incredible world, dystopian in nature, but filled with wonder and peopled by curious and brave souls. As the tale unfolds, it takes you through the lives of men and women trying to survive on an Earth that is inimical to how humans have lived for thousands of years. We have to wonder if survival is possible.
As we progress through the novel, we meet a being that seems alien in nature yet has many recognizable qualities. It talks of shaping life to survive in ways that man does not understand even to this day.
Journeying through the book leads to a reveal as entertaining and thought-provoking as anything I have ever read. It is a wonderful read, filled with challenges that make one thankful for what we have today. I hope mankind can join together to prevent the Earth from becoming unlivable.
Read this novel, and see if you agree with me.
