F*ck it, Watch This: Saying the Quiet Parts Out Loud

Rate this book
In Ana Visneski's candid snarky guide, F*ck it, Watch Saying the Quiet Parts Out Loud, she throws traditional leadership wisdom overboard like a soggy biscuit at a pirate tea party. Forget stuffy boardroom jargon and "rah-rah" motivational speeches-Coast Guard veteran (tech executive and company founder) Visneski dives straight into the tumultuous waters of playing the career game your own way. From looking at the whole ocean to wearing velvet leisure suits in hurricanes, being a Coastie teaches you just as much (if not more) about leadership than any fancy MBA program.

Gone are the days of fluffy, feel-good advice that leaves you nodding off and wondering how to get your time back. F*ck it, Watch This delivers actionable ideas with the finesse of a cannonball into the corporate pool. Whether it's learning how to work for an octopus manager or discovering the power of being underestimated, Visneski's unconventional approach guarantees that you'll never look at leadership the same way again. So, grab your highlighter and prepare to laugh, cringe, and maybe even learn a thing or two about leadership from someone who isn't afraid to say the quiet parts out loud.

Do you have that one friend who seems to have experienced everything and learned an important and widely applicable lesson from each experience? Have you ever sat down with that friend over beers and asked them to summarize what they’ve learned? Did they gleefully agree and then pepper the entire conversation with F Bombs and colorful insults? Then you might know Ana Visneski. Or you may have read this book. It reads like an informal life advice session doled out over beers.

I’ve read lots of leadership books but this is the first one I finished in a matter of hours and then found myself quoting and applying what I learned to real life situations at work immediately. I laughed gleefully as I catalogued the Blue Falcons I’ve worked with or for and wished them all the day they deserve. I may or may not have accused someone of being a seagull after reading this book. If you want straight talk advice about how NOT to be a crappy leader and you have an irreverent sense of humor, this might just be the book you’re looking for.

As a member of the military I've read or been recommended countless leadership books. You can't walk through a bookstore's leadership section without finding books by retired flag officers or senior military leaders touting "the way of the warrior", "top gun leadership", or some other theme about courage, taking command, etc... This is not that type of book. This is a leadership book for those who just want to do their job and try to leave things better than they found it. It's a leadership book for the anti-leader, the one who has leadership thrust upon them. Using her life experiences as a junior officer in the US Coast Guard and as a senior executive at multiple big tech companies, Ana lays out actual, actionable tasks to becoming a better leader.
