A litany of bloody memories showed Spiric the truth of his identity. A thousand years have passed since the fall of The Hytharo Empire, leaving him the sole survivor of the brutal regime. Now an anomaly among The Droughtlands, he must find a way to stop history from repeating or be forced to relive the suffering his people caused.
But his presence has already invoked echoes of his past.
Journeying to Breggesa to follow a fragment of his stolen memory, Spiric finds a sprawling city on the verge of revolt. Its people are starving, its ruling council intent on lining their own pockets, and when Spiric discovers the power behind their tyranny, he realises he’s not the only Hytharo trying to change the future.
Jonathan Weiss is an Australian Fantasy & Science Fiction author of the upcoming FLUX CATASTROPHE and HYTHARO series. He has a background in Journalism and commercial cloud sales and lives with his wife and three budgies in the Illawarra region of New South Wales.
You absolutely have to check out "The Hytharo Origin" by Jonathan Weiss - it's the second book in the First Hytharo Series and it's absolutely mind-blowing! The character development is top-notch, and the world-building is so immersive that I felt like I was right there, discovering secrets alongside the characters.
Spiric’s journey is beyond epic, with intense challenges and unexpected twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. And the ending? Oh, it's raw, poetic, and left me completely in awe!
Even though I haven't read "Flux Catastrophe" or the hytharo redux, "The Hytharo Origin" stands impressively on its own. I cannot wait to dive into "The Droughtlands" next and continue this amazing journey!
I'm giving this a 4.75/5 star rating because I have yet to read the first book, but I'm sure it'll be a true 5/5 once I do. This series is an absolute must-read, and I'm eagerly counting down the days until the next book's release on August 27! Looks like I need to go back and delve into the first book soon!
“He stood, resolve crystalising into bravery in his heart as it began to race. His life did matter. And it was nowhere near finished”
This book was another instant favourite. I had some guesses as to where this story would go after the ending of “The Hytharo Redux”, but this was so much better than I ever could have expected.
Plot wise, this book started off nice and easy by settling you back into the world before it really started picking up around the 30-40% mark. And it did not stop 😭. I was completely unable to stop reading once I hit the 60% mark and somehow managed to finish the last stretch in a single day. The last 2 chapters absolutely broke me… The action, the emotion, the vivid descriptions - I NEED book 3 expeditiously.
Spiric grew so much as a character - from the confused and almost too careful Spiric we met in book 1 to the confident, risk taking Spiric book 2 ends with. All this whilst still having those realistic lapses of judgement and moments of confidence. Byreth (🥲), my favourite, will forever be my favourite. She’s only ever trying her best. Vehli however 😒, he grew on me, but that beginning…
Since this book is finally getting released on Aug 27th(!!), I made my own high quality, spoiler free, out of context memes to encourage you to read this book due to FOMO - you can see these on my instagram @onthe_book_case. I personally will be reading the Flux Catastrophe before rereading this series (and hopefully by then book 3 will be here 🤞🏻).
The Hytharo Origin I started my Droughtlands journey with the short story "An Economic Growth" which was a full, rich tale in itself. It was an introduction to the land that we see again in The Hytharo Origin. While this is book #2 of The First Hytharo series, it stands on its own. I'm so excited to continue the journey with the other books next. Spiric is one of my most beloved characters. He's so well written! His strength and intelligence is evident in the way his decision making improved throughout the story and the emotions he displays really touched me. We get to watch him grow. All of the characters have very special qualities of their own. This is definitely an exciting read! The world building takes a bit but we need that to appreciate all that comes next...and it sure comes fast! I love a fastpaced book and Jonathan delivers the action scenes so well. I highly recommend giving this book, and the series a try. My rating is 4.75, rounded to 5 for GR.
The Hytharo Origin by Jonathan Weiss is the second installment of the First Hytharo Series. This is an absolutely stunning sequel that I couldn't get enough of! I loved the character development and the new aspects you learn about the world.
Spiric's journey continues as he fights against the inevitable. I had some expectations for this book after reading the first one, but what I read was so much better! The ending was gritty, poetic, and enthralling!
I haven't read the Flux Catastrophe yet, and while there are references, I think this can be enjoyed first, no problem! That being said, I will definitely be exploring more of the Droughtlands after this!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 stars again. This series is awesome, and I'm very impressed with the sequel! Get yours soon when this book releases August 27th! You have time to read the first book in the series 🥰
This second book in the First Hytharo series was a crazy ride. I’ll admit, there was so much happening at one point, I got a little lost, but then caught back up again. You really have to stop and think about what you’re reading to keep up with what is happening in this book. This is not an easy read, at least not for me!
The Hytharo Origin continues in the dystopian universe created in The Hytharo Redux. Filled with action, found family, great sci fi elements and continued character development of the main characters, this book really delivers. I love how Spiric and Byreth’s relationship grew.
Looking forward to continuing with Spiric on his journey! I totally recommend this book for any sci-fi fan.
I received an advance reader copy from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The second book in The First Hytharo series was every bit as amazing as the first. I loved being reunited with familiar faces and following the growth of characters. The way relationships deepened and characters evolved in this story felt so natural and rewarding.
Once the action kicks in, the story starts running. It's relentless and impossible to look away from. I never quite knew where it was taking me, and that unpredictability made the ride even more thrilling.
The Hytharo Origin is clever, layered, and totally worth the brain stretch.
