So dang good..

I'm usually not a fan of Pirate stories but this one was so good and even though it's a novella, it gives the fulfillment of a full length story.

She's on her way to marry someone she's never met but she doesn't want to, she's only doing it to make her uncle happy, when she spies a handsome pirate in the corner of a tavern she decides to make take her life into her own hands by being bold to help him escape.

He is married to the sea and doesn't believe in love until he decides to rescue a beautiful woman on her way to marry someone she obviously doesn't want to, however things are more complicated than he expected them to be.

Despite the fact he is on the run from the law and she is his prize, they find that they could careless what happens as long as they have each other.

This story is filled with laughter, spice and an amazing happily ever after..

I can't wait to see what Carrie has in store next!

I received this book from the author as an arc in exchange for an honest voluntary review and this is purely based upon my own personal opinion and that of no one else.

This Cavalier Love Novella, which is part of the Cavalier Cove Collection, is a very captivating and beautifully written romance that begins on Cavalier Cove, Cornwall in 1816. I really enjoyed the characters' humorous and witty bantor, a dramatic kidnapping that leads to a near drowning, an illness, being on the run from the law, and so many emotional issues and plot twists kept me very entertained. I really enjoyed how such a beautiful, passionate love overcame everything in the end. The ending was delightful. I highly recommend reading!

Lady Harriet Turner finds herself at a crossroads after five uneventful seasons in society, having yet to catch the eye of any suitor. Although not conventionally beautiful, Harriet possesses an undeniable charm that is overshadowed by her shy demeanor and lack of self-confidence. Faced with an ultimatum from her uncle—to wed the Earl of Lucarran or resign to spinsterhood under his roof—Harriet chooses marriage, driven by her desire for motherhood.

However, fate intervenes as she journeys through Cavalier Cove en route to her nuptials in Ireland. A chance encounter with a roguish smuggler at the inn where she's staying leads to an unexpected twist. Remy, the dashing pirate, overhears her predicament and, convinced he must rescue her from an unwanted union, takes her captive.

Remy is a character full of contradictions—reckless yet sweet, caring yet daring—making him thoroughly captivating. The chemistry between Harriet and Remy is palpable and electric. Remy, proud of his piratical ways, has no intention of settling down, yet when Harriet, a damsel in distress, needs his help, he can't help but intervene, even if she doesn't initially appreciate it.

Though Harriet at first longs to return to her uncle and proceed with the marriage, she realizes that being kidnapped could ruin her reputation. Remy’s feelings for Harriet deepen, and though he knows he should return her, he starts to question his own desires. Could Harriet have awakened something in him that he never thought he wanted?

This story captivated me completely. The characters felt incredibly real; I resonated deeply with their insecurities and transformations. I cherished how Harriet inspired change in Remy, and how Remy, in turn, bolstered Harriet's confidence, encouraging her to fight for the future she truly desires. This tale indeed has it all—romance, spice, dynamic characters, action, intrigue, laugh-out-loud moments, and a great deal of heart.

The narrative is exciting, intriguing, and heartwarming. Lomax has another winner with this story and I eagerly anticipate future stories set in the fascinating world of Cavalier Cove. The writing style of the author is both engaging and evocative, capturing the essence of each character and the world they inhabit with vivid detail.

Miss Harriet Turner knows she isn’t the best catch. She is shy, quiet, and reasonably pretty. But after five Seasons, her uncle gave her a choice – marry the Earl of Lucarran or resign herself to remaining on the shelf and living out the rest of her days on her uncle’s estate. Enter Remy, the swashbuckling, handsome smuggler passing through town who sees her, and after overhearing Harriet describe her situation to another, kidnaps her so she doesn’t have to marry the Earl.

There was an immediate attraction between Harriet and Remy. But Remy wasn’t looking for a wife and family. And if people found out Harriet had been kidnapped, her reputation would be ruined. Could he take her back to her uncle without losing part of his heart? What about that little fact that the Excise Officers were hunting for him?

This was such an enjoyable story! I loved how Remy taught Harriet she could forge her own path and be her own person. She could fight for what she wanted. Yes, the story was short, but it was chock full of adventure, romance, intrigue, humor, and spicy scenes. Don’t forget the lovely secondary characters and those angry geese. I am looking forward to other stories about Cavalier Cove!

A thank you to Carrie Lomax for an Advanced Reader Copy. I happily and voluntarily read the book; all thoughts and comments are my own.

I enjoyed this lighthearted historical romance novella with its opposites attract and road trip tropes, witty banter and bickering, action, steamy love scenes, a touch of suspense and very likable characters with great chemistry between them.

Harriet Hunter is the illegitimate niece of a duke and has spent her whole life trying to become a proper young lady without reproach. On the journey to her arranged marriage in Ireland, Harriet and her uncle stop off in Cavalier Cove and Harriet witnesses excise men searching for a notorious smuggler. Without further ado, she decides to help the smuggler escape, only to be kidnapped by him.
The Frenchman Rémy Desmarais enjoys his life as a smuggler and rake. He is known for his impulsive, rash actions and when the young woman, who is obviously unhappy about her impending wedding, helps him to escape, he spontaneously takes her with him. However, he hadn't reckoned with the lady's temperament, the unplanned predicaments and his burgeoning feelings towards her...

If you like quick to read spinster-rake stories with action and spice, you will certainly enjoy this book!

A great novella about a cheeky pirate and an illegitimate niece of a duke. It was a very enjoyable quick read.

The main characters Rémy, a wanted pirate and Miss Harriet Turner, a feisty young woman making her way to Ireland with her uncle to be married to a much older lord are brought together when she stops with her uncle at an inn to get directions. Rémy overhears Harriet talking about her unwanted marriage so he decides to kidnap her to save her from her fate. He soon finds out she is quite ungrateful for rescuing her so has to try to return her to her uncle without being caught by the authorities. There is chemistry between them from the beginning and a near death experience means they have to spend time together and that brings them closer. Eventually Harriet has to decide what she wants for her life; marriage and security with a man she doesn’t love or life on the run with a handsome young pirate/smuggler.
There’s plenty of action and humour packed into this short book and some steamy scenes but the story doesn’t feel rushed. It’s well written and has a lovely epilogue that finishes Rémy and Harriet’s love story.
It’s wonderful read for anyone who wants romance and adventure without having a long book to read.
I received a special copy of this book from the author. I’m voluntarily leaving this review.

I was able to read this novella in one sitting. The story of Harriet and Rémy was about two people that initially appeared to be opposites. Although Harriet was the niece of a duke, she was illegitimate. She was never able to fit in anywhere and she was relieved that her uncle had finally found a nobleman to marry her. Rémy was not truly a pirate, but rather a smuggler. Even though his activities weren't exactly legal, he did operate under a moral code. When he overheard Harriet having doubts about her upcoming marriage, he decided to act by essentially kidnapping her.
The couple's emotional journey was entertaining and also somewhat steamy. There was never any downtime because, given its length, the story needed to move quickly. I'm looking forward to reading the next story (part of the Wayward Dukes) which features Harriet's long-suffering uncle Lord Montague, finally meeting his match.
I received a free ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

Oh, who doesn’t love a story of a rogue smuggler (he’s adamant that he’s not a pirate, she’s adamant that he is) who unapologetically kidnaps the young maiden (lady) he feels needs rescuing while she’s helping him escape capture from His Majesty’s Waterguard? This is a delightful, often witty, very romantic, sometimes steamy and sometimes dangerous novella with plenty of details and character development that pulls the reader in like a full-length novel. I feel for certain you will love the back-and-fourth banter between Rémy and Harriett and possibly shake your head over the way she judges someone’s character. You just never know who the geese at The Cock and Bull Tavern may be warning you about. Favorite quote comes from Rémy: “I have a taste for the finer things in life and you, Miss Turner, are the finest I have ever tasted.”

A quick but very good read. I loved Remy & Harriet he brought out her feistiness & she brought out his protectiveness. Their attraction sizzled & their banter was witty. There’s running from the law, falling into the sea, illness & a steamy encounter during a storm. Yes, only a hundred pages but boy did they all pack a punch. I loved it & devoured it in a sitting

On her way to meet her intended groom, the last thing Harriet expects is to be kidnapped and carried off by a French smuggler. Needing to escape the excise men, Rémy hoists Harriet over his shoulder, quite convinced that he is doing her a favour in avoiding a marriage to the despicable man her uncle has chosen for her. An attraction develops between them, and even though Harriet knows that Rémy is acting outside of the law, she nevertheless is far more willing to put her trust in him than the Irish lord. When the inevitable happens, Harriet is willing to do anything rather than see him facing the outcome at the hands of the law. I received a copy of this entertaining novel as a gift, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

A Delightfully Entertaining Romance
He thought he was rescuing her by kidnapping her. She had helped him escape the law, and now he intended to return the favor—saving her from an unwanted marriage. How would Harriet and Rémy’s adventure unfold?
Their journey is anything but smooth, with near-drownings, unexpected mishaps, and plenty of twists along the way. A smuggler and a lady make for an unlikely pair, but can their love defy the odds? With an angry uncle to placate, a vengeful ex-fiancée to evade, and the law hot on Rémy’s trail, the stakes are high.
This novella is a delightful blend of romance, humor, and adventure. Fast-paced and full of mischief, it’s the perfect read for fans of historical romance looking for a lighthearted escape. I highly recommend it!

An enjoyable romp with engaging characters and a touch pf spice. Who doesn’t love a roguish pirate captain, with a good heart and a feisty, slightly wanton, FMC. The chemistry was good between the MC’s.

Perfect length for a novella, enough to get your teeth into and have some depth so a
great short read when you don’t have the time to delve into something longer.

As many have already praised, this is a beautifully write story that is packed into a novella. There is wonderful character development and a complex story that leaves you both satisfied and longing for more.

Remi was just precious. He was a smuggler, but he was also kind and caring. He wasn’t hardened and rough like a lot of pirates or smugglers are supposed to be.

Harriet was a fun character to watch grow. She went from wallflower to running from “the law.” She mad me laugh, and I loved it!

This was a slow burn, but adventurous tale that will leave you happy.

A rousing tale of adventure and romance. Kidnapped by the handsome pirate Harriet is swept off her feet by his good looks, funny banter as well as the kindness that he displayed towards her. Remy had never met anyone as beautiful, fiery or intriguing as her. As they ran from those chasing them what had begun as a kidnapping became something real as their feeling for each continued to explode into full blown love. The story does have its explicit scenes that only add to its charm as it confirms the feelings between our two main characters. It is warm, funny, poignant and a delightful read.

Harriet sees Remy and wants to protect him. He hears Harriet discussing her upcoming marriage and knows she needs to escape. The characters are so playful, witty and full of excitement; while they also have felt that they aren't good enough. In each other, they find someone who cares. This is a delightful quick read with the wonderful addition of angry geese thrown in for amusement and character assessment!

Both main characters have secrets and things like an arranged marriage or being hunted by the law, but they find attraction and an understanding of each other after she is kidnapped by our pirate. I did like her learning from him to find her strength after being beaten down emotionally all her life. I would have liked more story, but it was a quick entertaining read with some thought provoking moments.
I offer an honest review after receiving an advance copy of the book.

A young woman, unsuccessful in the marriage mart, is given little option but to marry an elderly lord by her uncle. When travelling to meet the lord Harriet finds herself “kidnapped” by a French smuggler. Remy charms Harriet who decides that here is her chance to escape her fate. A chase ensues and Harriet finds herself on a series of adventures culminating in a prison breakout leading to the life she always wanted. A most enjoyable story.

There is alot of content in this novella, almost as much as a full length story. I loved the banter between the main characters which made me smile, and the hero makes no attempt to be something he is not. It was great not to have the dithering of decision that comes in some stories, and a heroine not afraid to accept what she wants. I wish I could give half stars, as I would have made this 4.5stars. A nice quick read that leaves a happy feeling

Another new-to-me author, another great read! So many readers have given excellent reviews for this book, and I totally agree with them. The book was beautifully written, with an interesting storyline and wonderful characters. There was a lot of humor, as well as some angst, and I loved the interactions between Harriett and Remy. Such an intriguing story! Adventure and love in a perfect mix. I loved how shy Harriet transformed into a daring young woman who’s not afraid to follow her “pirate” and fight for him at the end. I also liked the side characters (the uncle is stern, but so loving when no one else ever loved her) and the banter between the hero and heroine. Now I want to read all Cavalier Cove books!

Choose love....

Historically, women really haven't had the ability to make the own choices in how to spend the rest of their lives. Marriage or being "put on the shelf," forever labeled a spinster was pretty much it. An arranged marriage rarely came with love and when given the choice, choose love.

This story had me chuckling quite a bit. I enjoyed it but it was only a good read not a great one. It is very fast paced and rushed since it is a novella. Harriet and Remy are a cute couple and there were other wonder characters. I have read other stories by the author that I enjoyed much more.
