Serpents of Serant #5

The Naga Scavenger's Precious Mate

Rate this book
He is the king of beasts, the lord of water, and I’m his captive mate.

Farah

Underwater, what it is up can seem like down. I’m supposed to be dead, I’m supposed to be just a normal, boring daycare worker. Somehow, I’m stuck in the middle of a bizarre, nightmarish adventure.

And then there is him. I'm not attracted to him with a burning intensity. No, it's just a fever from nearly drowning. Never to him.

He is feral and dangerous. Everything I’m not, and we don’t even speak the same language. He courts me like I’m meant to be his. Gifts, touches, passion… Who can resist that?

Zeidon

I’m supposed to be a loner. I am a collector, and deviant in my desire to have company, even if they are just the stray animals I find and heal. Then I find her and everything changes.

Beautiful Farah deserves everything I have to give her and so much more. I must convince her that I am worthy to be her male. Each day in her presence I struggle with my instincts to claim, to dominate, to own her body and her heart.

When evil finds us in my den, a place that should have been safe, nothing can stop me from saving her. Not my grave injuries, not allies who think they mean well, and definitely not the evil that lurks beneath my mountain.

Farah is mine, and I will claim her.

This is book five in the Serpents of Serant Series. This steamy sci-fi monster romance features one beastly, antisocial Naga, a loyal heroine, at least two cute pet sidekicks, and a steamy HEA.

I’m a little disappointed.

It started off on a really good start. I loved seeing how he rescued her and helped her heal.
But I got bored when they were in the revenant’s area.

Also the idea of doing the deed when the big bad guy is around and is holding you captive isn’t hot for me.

Thank you to the author and booksiren for the arc. My opinions are my own.

Gleeful Goblin Review: I am so obsessed with this series and I feel like it's largely responsible for my newfound love of nagas. In this series especially I feel like the author does a dynamite job of making unique situations where human cultures clash with their future mates' in different ways given how varied the clans all are on Serant. I do love that a consistent theme is tech confusion from the nagas though and I swear I laughed out loud when I read this scene: “So I didn’t dream the cold water, did I?” she asked. I shook my head, and she shuddered as if that bothered her. “I really was in a stasis pod then, but how? I should be dead.” I hissed, baring my teeth in reflex against a threat that wasn’t there. No, she should not be dead. She should be here, with me; she was exactly where she was meant to be. “Who harmed you?” I demanded. My fist clenched around the knife handle on my hip, and my tail wanted to whip out to snatch up my hunting trident. Her frown disappeared like snow before the sun, a smile flirting around her mouth instead. “Easy there, Zeidon. There’s no threat to fight. They’re not even on this planet, so far beyond our reach, we might as well forget about it.” I huffed but relaxed the tight grip on my knife and forced my tail to relax again in her grip. She was no longer clutching it so tightly, her strength fading. “Explain it to me,” I said, even though my instincts told me that I should withdraw so she could sleep. I didn’t want to stop talking with her now that we had taken our next turn in our courtship. It was selfish but I couldn’t stop, I couldn’t pull away from this contact. She sighed, her eyes taking on a faraway cast. “I think it suffices to say that I was accused of doing something I did not do, but my government didn’t care and they punished me for it. I was supposed to be executed, but I woke up here with you, instead. I don’t know how that happened.” I did not know who this ‘government’ was, but they sounded like they were in charge. If my precious Farah said she hadn’t done what she was accused of, I believed her. Which meant her people had betrayed her. The scales on my back rattled with my unrest, my fangs itching to sink them into whoever had caused her this sadness and pain. I pushed those feelings away, she said they weren’t on Serant, and there was no way for us to leave so I could hunt down the idiots that had done this to her. “I know how you got here,” I said instead, “With a skyship. It crashed. As all skyships do on Serant.” I didn’t know why that was or why the ships kept coming when they ended in fiery deáths each time they arrived. Maybe that was the way skyships sought their end; by plummeting to Serant’s unforgiving surface. I just couldn’t imagine that they wished to do that when they carried living beings aboard, like my mate."

I love the fierce protectiveness, devotion, and care that all the MMC's take of their mates but Zeidon seems to have just that extra dose of all of it. I absolutely loved this book. 5/5 Stars.

This was another great addition to this series and I was so glad to finally read it after how the previous book left off with such a dramatic introduction of Zeidon. I loved getting to know Zeidon and how caring he was with Farah and all the injured animals he took care of. Srazz and Buzz were such cute characters as well! I look forward to reading the next book in this series and seeing Min-Ji & Corin finally get a story.

4.25 stars. Zeidon, the male Naga lead, is from a clan where the males roam and the females and young live in villages. Knowing no other life, he has made a living for himself and additionally cares for injured animals before releasing them back to the wild. When he sees a “sky ship” crashing to the planet, he feels drawn to the wreckage with a sense of foreboding. When he finally reaches it, he finds an “egg” with a female in it, a female he is sure is his mate.

Farah, the female human lead, was condemned to “death” on Earth after being falsely convicted. She wakes up feeling frozen and unable to move, very confused because she’s supposed to be dead. Then she sees bright green right before water enters her stasis pod and she nearly drowns in icy water.

Zeidon cares for his mate as she recovers and, when she awakens, he’s determined to court her. Going hunting, he meets a strange group of multi-clan males who have females like Farah but, when he returns to her, he finds a strange being abducting her. Who or what is it? And can he get her back? And why did it want her?

This story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy, sci fi romance. It’s somewhat slower paced because of Farah’s ill health and recovery time but contains much relationship development. It is placed within a series but is written such that is stands alone and is possibly a reasonable secondary entry point for the series if you haven’t read any up until now. I enjoyed Zeidon’s devotion to Farah, and his gentlemanly determination to court her and leave relationship progression decisions to her discretion. I enjoyed Farah’s sweet nature and her care for Zeidon’s strays. I also enjoyed her determination to save him when it became necessary. I enjoyed the animal companions. I enjoyed the secondary characters. I’m enjoying the non-romance plot and world building and looking forward to more!

I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.

Thoughts: I probably should've read the first like 4 books, but it was easy enough to understand without having to read them. Robin O'Connor was promoting this book on a group on facebook and had to read it. Pretty good, it was cute how Zeidon was just instantly in love with his mate after saving her from the pod in the lake. Farah is so sweet, they belong together.

Wrongly accused, tried and convicted of a capital crime, Farah is transported to another planet rather than executed. When the spacecraft carrying her crash lands, her pod sinks to a watery abyss where the stasis process stops, condemning her to a horrific drowning death.
Fierce water weaver Naga Zeidon is combing for salvage as he always does when his attention is arrested by the fiery crash. Seized by a sense of utmost urgency, he sets out to evade the plundering horde on its way to the crash site. Slipping past their grisly way party, Zeidon dives down to the bottom of the crater where a panicked Farah lies trapped in her stasis pod. After rescuing Farah and discovering that she’s his fated mate, he returns with the unconscious Farah to his nest where he nurses her back from the brink of death.
Farah awakens in Zeidon’s cave dwelling to a menagerie of alien animals in various stages of recovery from mortal and crippling injuries. Farah quickly realizes Zeidon is much more than just a serpent-like humanoid being, and she grows close to and fond of the Naga.
However, there are more threats and dangers to the pair as they find out when they venture outside of Zeidon’s cave.
Can they survive the deadly challenges they face and find their happily ever after?
This was another wonderful volume in the Naga series by Robin O’Connor. I really enjoyed it, more so even than the previous book.
I was generously furnished an advance reader copy from the author and booksprout, and I’m pleased to leave my honest thoughts.

The Naga Scavenger’s Precious Mate by Robin O’Connor
Serpents of Serant #5

Fun way to spend time since I am not traveling this summer. Instead of going on vacation I can escape to outer space and watch aliens and humans find their fated mates. Who knew that I would become a fan of alien-human romances?

What I liked:
* Zeidon: Naga scavenger and trader from the Water Weaver Clan, healer of injured animals, caring, kind, gentleman, green, human upper body with snake lower half, knows that Farah is his
* Farah: human, preschool teacher, accused of misdeeds, sentenced to death, sold, put into stasis pod, crashes on Serant, rather taken with Zeidon
* Srazz: Zeidon’s rodent pet the size of a dog, fierce, loyal, and protective
* Buzz: purple mini dragon with injured wing, healed by Zeidon, becomes a pet
* The patience of Zeidon and his protective loving nature
* That both Zeidon and Farah want a family and seem to be perfect for one another
* Thinking about what it might be like to wake up in an alien world that was not hostile and knowing you wouldn’t ever go home
* Getting to see and catch up with previous Naga-human couples
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* Knowing that there will be another book in the series soon

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* The revenant…do hope it is gone for good but…perhaps not?

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

The Naga Scavenger's Precious Mate is the fifth book of the Serpents of Serant series by Robin O'Connor.

I *think* this book could be read as a standalone, however, I wouldn't recommend it. There has been a lot going on in this alien world that was covered previously and previous knowledge probably would help for context when it comes to understanding the Naga clans and how the Outcast Haven clan lives.

In this book we are introduced to yet another clan (and therefore different coloured scales/skin) of the Naga species. A group of humans mysteriously crash land on an alien planet - for various reasons that we find out in each book. And now that they are on this planet, they are finding fated mates among the Naga. Naga are interesting, they were a species that rejected technology and instead of being at peace with other clans, there's fighting instead.

In this book, we meet human female Farah who really doesn't know what's going on until she is saved by the serpent-like humanoid alien Zeidon. He is a loner, and so unlike previous books, he has less issues from his people when it comes to finding out his mate is a human. Definitely the least dramatic of the series so far, it was a nice change of pace, but there is still so much that we are finding out about Serant and the Outcast Haven.

Zeidon was a scavenger. He was of the Water Waver Clan and traveled by water whenever he could. This day dawned bright and auspicious. He felt something new and good was coming his way. And sure enough, a skyship fell from the heavens and crashed in pieces near Zeidon's location. Before he could reach any part of the wreck, he saw Bitter Storm warriors converging on his location. Obviously, they saw the crash, also. Traveling by water, he reached the wreckage first, but there was little to salvage. Another, larger piece of the ship was smoking on the mountain flank. Although it was in Bitter Storm territory. Zeidon felt he had to investigate, but he had to do so carefully. Will he get to the wreckage before he's found by the Bitter Storm warriors? And what will he find in the wreck?

This a wonderfully entertaining story of Zeidon and Farah,, a human female he rescues from a watery grave and who illuminates his mating sigils. Injured, he takes her to his cave home, where she wakes up to quite a shocking sight: An emerald green, scaled, half-man, half-snake was caring for her injuries. This is where "the cheese gets more binding," and the story expands.

I loved this story, but then I love all of Ms. O'Connor's Naga stories. Each one has a different theme, and all of them are filled with quirky characters, handsome heroes and beautiful heroines. Like me, I'm sure you will want to read every one of these colorful and enchanting stories.

Farah (h) thought her life was over when she was wrongfully imprisoned and sentenced to death on Earth, but fate had other plans when a crash landing on an alien planet changes everything. Rescued from drowning by Zeidon (H), a solitary naga scavenger from the Water Weaver Clan, Farah must adapt to a new, dangerous world. Zeidon, immediately drawn to Farah and believing her to be his fated mate, dedicates himself to her care and protection. Despite the language barrier and the dangers of Serant, their bond grows stronger with each passing day. As Farah adjusts to her new reality, she finds herself increasingly captivated by Zeidon's gentle heart and fierce yet caring nature - have to love a male who rescues animals. Together, they face ruthless Bitter Storm warriors, terrifying revenants, and the mysteries of the skyships that brough Farah to Serant. Their love for each other grows stronger and more resilient with each challenge they face together as they embrace their bond. Farah is determined and stands tall even in the face of dangers that spark her fears, and Zeidon, her naga protector is so dedicated to her, even when it means his own life is on the line. Loved having characters from other books. Hot and steamy naga-human romance with lots of action, adventure, and a connection that defies all odds.

These interconnected standalones give both a unique new perspective on humans stranded on earth while showing glimpses of past book's characters living their life on this alien planet. In this story, Zeidon finds Farah locked in a stasis pod underwater. His scavenging skills are put to use when he rescues her and nurses her back to health. She's touch and go for a while, but eventually gets enough energy to explore the cave and Zeidon's zoo of injured rescue animals. The language barrier isn't a big issue in this story, as they learn early on that physical touch allows them to communicate. But there are dangers lurking in the dark, and Zeidon finds himself at the mercy of the other humans and nagas when Farah is taken from him.

So our boy Zeidon is the cutest. He collects injured animals and orphaned babies and has a whole menagerie. I loved seeing his caring side come out, especially with his permanent companions, who quickly adopt Farah. He knows instantly that they are mates but gives her the chance to recover before trying to put on the moves. He also takes her swimming, despite her newly found fear of water, and helps her conquer it. Farah finds Zeidon romantically interesting, but it's not until they really start cohabitating that she realizes he's all in. The universe works in mysterious ways. I can't wait to see some of their future together in the next books!

Zeidon and his little "rat" friend, Srazz, are living out of their village as all males do until mating season. He is of the Water Weaver Naga . He hears the crash of a skyship and decides to head there. There he finds unusual beings who get into a smaller skyship and leave. He investigates the ship and finds bodies. Then he has to hide becaus a group of Bitter Storm arrive. As he is hiding he sees the end of a smoke column and decides that is where he will find his treasure.
Farah awakens and can't remember what happened to her or why she feels cold. She live in Phoenix and has never felt this cold. Then she blacks out again.
She's saved by Zeidon and he cares for her all the while she is unconscious. Then she finally wakes. They start to co exist and then when he touches her he can understand her and she him. When he is away on a hunting trip for food to store for winter, she is kidnapped by some type os robot. He is injured in trying to rescue her. Now he must find her, his treasure.
Will it find her? Will he manage to get help from those who came together to survive?
An exciting story on a hostile planet.

When Farah's stasis pod lands at the bottom of a lake, Zeidonrescues her with his mating sigels all lit up. Sick from being trapped in her stasis pod too long without proper life support and nearly drowning during her rescue, Farah goes into a coma and Zeidon faithfully takes care of her.

Farah awakens and as she recovers, Zeidon courts her, giving her trinkets, fabrics, flowers and other things that Water Weaver Clan males have learned that women like. Zeidon decides to go hunting and discovers Outcast Haven, where he is warmly welcomed and spends several hours enjoying getting to know the Nagas and their human mates.

Meanwhile, Farah is captured by an robot inhabited by the spirit of an evil eugenicist, which results in a misadventure that rivals the Perils of Pauline. Zeidon and Farah finally make it back to Outcast Haven and after Zeidon recovers from injuries sustained while trying to rescue Farah, they learn that the search party sent to rescue Farah hasn't come back yet. It makes Zeidon and Farah's HEA bittersweet, but there's a rescue party already looking for the lost members of the Outcast Haven community, so the story is ongoing. Can't wait to read the next book in the Serpents of Serant series!.

Yessss, back in the spirited world of Nagas!

The Naga Scavenger’s Precious Mate is book 5 in the Serpents of Serant series and they just keep getting better!

I highly recommend reading this series in order and don’t miss The Naga Hunter’s Lost Mate which is a prequel to this entertaining series.

In a world of mythical Naga you will find many stirring characters, found family, daring rescues, spine tingling adventures, lots of humor and sssuper sssmoldering scenes.

Naga Zeidon of the Water Weaver clan makes a splash when rescuing Human Farah from her death. I’m immediately in love with Zeidon’s kind heart, strapping muscles, fierce determination and a fondness for animals. Farah is his perfect preciousss companion growing from a wounded and panic stricken survivor to a fiery and brave woman. And, who doesn’t love pets… Zeidon’s pet Srazz is a cheeky little devil and Farah’s mini dragon Buzz is oh so cute, I want one!

I can’t wait for the next book in the Serpents of Serant series but be prepared for more of a new and malevolent antagonist, a new set of challenges for some of my favorite characters introduced in the previous books and for a whole lot more Naga nest play!

This was a fantastic book and I loved all the characters and even the pets Srazz and Buzz who the perfect addition to the storyline. Farrah is a daycare worker who gets wrongly accused of a crime and has been put in a skyship and was being sent to a prison planet when she crash lands and her pods ends up in the water as she prepares to die but she is save by a half man half snake who takes her to his place to heal her injuries. Naga Zeidon is of the Water Weaver Clan and was out scavenging when he see’s a skyship fall from the sky and race to the scene but he must do it carefully because he is going into the Bitter Storm Clan territory and when he see’ the stasis pod sink into the water he dives down to to save it and finds a female inside and when he touches her his mating marks are activated telling him she is his mate. When comes too she see’s a gorgeous man before her and he tells her she is his mate and he shows her all the injured animals he is saving and healing to say she was attracted to him would be an understatement but can she really be with him. How does it all turn out in the end well get this book to find out.

Book 5 is my first exposure to this series. It read well as a stand-alone. Any recurring threads were managed and explained well enough to follow the story. I was very pleasantly surprised by the robust world building and the colorful characters found in the world of Serant.

Zeidon was a Water Weaver Naga whose females lived in villages while the males were made to live nomadic scavenger lives. He rescued Farah after the spaceship she was in crashed in the area he was located at the time. As they were getting to know and understand each other better, the story took an interesting left turn and they were thrust into a dangerous adventure. I liked both main characters and their colorful pets. Their adventure frustrated me at times because they kept getting injured over and over again. However, I did enjoy the overall plot, the spice, and the whimsy of this entertaining story.

I look forward to the next book in the series where some more light might be shed on the evil lurking underground.

SOMETHING NEW IN EVERY BOOK!

I was especially eager to read this book because it has a water naga and he rescues a woman from Book #1. Good plot, as usual, different but similar. The author always gives us something new to learn about Serant which makes me eager to read the next book in the series.

Now in Chapter 1 Zeidon sees this scene:

“There was another weird, two-legged being, and he was soon joined by the gray one and the red one from before. They boarded a completely intact-looking gray and silver skyship that sat near the large collection of broken pieces. Then that sky ship, a tiny one compared to some of the massive wrecks I’d explored over the years, lifted from the ground and zipped up into the air. In less than a minute, it had vanished from the skies completely, leaving me to stare at a pale violet heaven in utter confusion.”

Now Zeidon wasn’t the only one left in utter confusion and that was me. Did I miss something in a previous book or is this surprise to be explained in another book? The only hint I got was it had completely disappeared from the skies but if it was from Outcast Haven it would have remained low to the ground.

Then the Terminator returns later, exciting it was.

Well, off to read Book #6.

Hello! hello! as a fan of sci-fi monster romance! This book successfully delivers on its promises of a steamy story featuring a beastly, antisocial and cinnamonroll Naga (Zeidon) and a loyal heroine (Farah). Instant attraction and no drama exist between Zeidon and Farah. I love the chemistry between the two. Perfectly smooth wooing, like giving gifts and nursing Farah back to health. I love those tiny pets; they might be tiny but they're so protective in their own little way. They add charm to the story.

Aside from the steamy moments between Zeidon and Farah, the rescue and escape is always thrilling. As much as I love the steamy romance and fated mates concept, I enjoy a good action sequence; the thrill makes it all exciting. The thrill and mystery in this series that needs to be unraveled is so big I can't even see where this is going. The ending itself between Zeidon and Farah is sweet and I'm hopeful that their dream of building a family together may be mentioned in the next book, but there was an exciting hint for the next book regardless. I genuinely enjoy this series.

'She was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen, utterly precious. I didn’t think those were sentiments incited purely by the glow of my mating marks either. She was just so delicate and feminine, so different and exotic.'

I absolutely loved this book. It's my favorite in the series so far. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loves both Zeidon and Farah. Condemned to death for a crime she didn't commit, Farah would have died if Zeidon hadn't saved her. I liked how he took care of her and the courting gifts he made her. I loved how both thought the other attractive and there was no fear from her even before they were able to communicate. I loved that Zeidon cared for the animals and that he was a loner apart from their company. It was sweet the way the relationship between the two developed. I was really hooked when the revenant abducted her and badly injured Zeidon. What was going to happen? The story was nice and relaxed at first and then became fast-paced with danger. I loved it. 5 stars.

I absolutely love this series. It's filled with so much adventure, tension, spice, and definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This story between Zeidon and Farah was amazing. So intense especially when Farah was taken and you didn't know what to expect. These two definitely went through so much in the short amount of time they were together but I'm so glad they accepted their fate of being together and managed to survive what they did.

I absolutely adored Buzz and Srazz, they were such fun little animals! 😍

"My mate who loved me like I loved her, my mate who returned my devotion. She was a novelty, a gift. I was so lucky."

I can't wait to find out in the next one if they do start that family they so desperately want. They deserve it so much!

I'm very very excited for the next book. It will be so great to see Min-Ji convince Corin they are mates, he won't make it easy 😉

I did receive this as an ARC but so behind 🤦
So this is a ARC/general book review and is my honest opinion. Miss Robin O'Connor does no wrong and this series has my whole heart! 😍

This is the 2nd story I have read in this world; I read the initial novella which foreshadows the community mentioned in this one. This story is several ahead, obviously, so I see some of the things that happened in the meantime AND some more questions about the mysteries of this planet and the Shamans.

The really cool thing about this book is local wildlife because the MMC is not only a scavenger but a lover of animals and often has them around because he helps with healing.

The story is somewhat frustrating because they keep having life-threatening situations and I wanted to be quiet and get to know Farah & Zeidon. Guess that will have to come later.

We have more pieces to the mystery but no answer for why skyships keep crashing on the planet. What happened to the planet, the naga, etc.?

At the end is a list of important characters.

Engaging story that is about Zeidon a collector and a member of the Water Weaver Clan who finds his greatest treasure, Farah, was an enjoyable story to read. Srazz a rat-like pet gave touches of light humor in this story. Zeidon is out hunting treasure when Scrazz senses something and sees a skyship falling, hunting the scavenge before the Bitter Storm warriors arrive. He notices that high in Bitter Storm's territory on the mountain fell another part of the skyship and he feels drawn toward it. Farah a daycare worker who was wrongly convicted of a crime finds herself locked in a stasis pod that crashed in a lake on an alien planet. Before her air went out, she's found and rescued by Zeidon. What occurs as Zeidon takes care of Farrah was an entertaining story that I'd received a copy and volunteer to read and review. The characters are likable in this romantic, action-filled, engaging alien romance story.

Non-stop Action from start to finish.

This is a wonderful story of Zeidon and Farah, a human female he rescues from a watery grave. A water naga (Zeidon) sees the skyship that crashed with all the humans. He rescues the human from Book 1 that the others couldn't get to before it went into the water. Zeidon was a scavenger with the Water Weaver Clan. He traveled by water whenever he could. His clan are foragers so he couldn't resist the crashed skyship. He got more than he expected when he finds his mate. Farah wakes up to quite a shock, a scaled, emerald green, half-man, half-snake taking care of her and bringing her back to health. They can't seem to catch a break! Every time they get ahead something happens that has them fighting for their lives.

So many twist and turns that will have you wanting more. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

The Naga Scavenger’s Precious Mate, is book 5 in the series and another winning story.
MFC Farah is rescued from near death after her stasis pod crashes into deep water on the planet Serant. Naga MMC Zeidon a member of the Water Weaver Clan, and at home in water has no problem retrieving her from the damaged pod.
It doesn’t take long for him to realize Farah is his mate as he nurses her back to health.
I enjoyed the continuing adventures in this storyline and the new revelations about the planet Serant as well as this couple who were the perfect engaging lead characters.
Filled with action, intrigue, romance, spice, great world building and writing this was an immersive Sci-Fi romance read.

The Naga Scavenger’s Precious Mate, I found to be not only suspenseful, but a page-turner. I loved how there were some hot and steamy scenes between Farah and Zeidon. After I read the blurb for this book, I thought it would be a good book to read. Once I got started reading it, I realized that it was in fact a really entertaining book. I also thought the plot for the story to be exceptionally well written. I fell in love with Farrah and Zeidon, as well as the other characters throughout the book. I’m not going to give out details because I do t want to spoil the book for future readers. However, I would like to recommend this book to others.

What an absolutely wonderful book. It is rich with world building and descriptions, so that a first time reader can easily dip in from this book 5.
I love fated mates stories, especially when the threat to their relationship is external rather than internal. And this was done to perfection. However there was much more to the story. The pace is fast and exciting. They live on a hostile planet with dangers lurking around every corner which makes it difficult for the MMC to keep his human mate safe. His struggles are many and his internal development intircate and deep.
I truly loved this one!.
