I can’t remember how many times I cried for these characters. Their hardships, their losses, their joys and achievements. The Thals, the Cro, the Deni, and the Ninkurajaa are all fully realized people with their own stories, their own struggles that individualizes each group from the others. Each has their own beliefs and mythologies. From Rebaa, Nen, and Eldrax in the first book to Nyrianaa, Juaan/Khelvir, Kyaati, and Galahir in the rest of the books, they learn how to coexist with one another or die. Many more characters support them or hinder their progress, culminating in an epic confrontation with their Gods. And all of this is set against the backdrop of an ice age 38 millennia ago. I hope Ms. Lori Holmes will continue the series someday, perhaps following Ariyaana’s adventures or that of a future generation.
Great series - surprised by the sci-if direction which was written in a bit of a confused fashion. However, poor editing - the Chapter heading of Chapter 8 in (i think it was) book 2 or 3 is spelled ACCEPANCE instead of ACCEPTANCE - several other glaring errors throughout. And also, entirely predictable in parts (knew who the Chief was and who the girl was right away). But it kept me pretty wrapped up in it. A bit unrealistic in terms of human endurance but hey - it’s a fantasy. And the worlds created were fascinating. Well done over all - but could have been a 5
I read that if you liked the book, Clan of the Cave Bear, that you would like this one. It was totally wrong. I loved it! I devoured this book in just 3 days! Not one book but the whole series! I am now planning on starting the companion novel. It is well written, great characters. Do yourself a favor and escape to a different world!
When I started reading these books I didn't know if I would continue to read them. Then the books caught me! I was into the books 1-4. At the end they suggested more books to follow. I wanted to get the series books 5-the end of the story. I only found 1 of the books to read next. I will read it hoping for the next book in the series!
I have never read a book which gripped me as much as this one did. I even dreamed about it. I wish I had read the reviews first though. It was a total shock when the science fiction theme appeared it led me somewhere I didn't want to go. Such powerful writing, but it led me somewhere I was not prepared for.
I read Clan of the Cave Bear many years ago. I don’t remember the story being as emotionally wrenching as this one! This is a wonderfully crafted story full of twists and turns, joys and sorrow. I truly enjoyed every page!
All the books were so good that I immediately started the next when finishing one. It was so moving that I had tears in my eyes near the end of the fourth book.
Like a bunch of human dodo birds. Sometimes characters have to do dumb things things to develop but holy crap. This was just awful. They were so annoying I was happy when they would die. Horrible writing. Definitely no more than one star.
This is a wonderful set of novels. They are magnificent. They are also heart breaking. I cried the last 20 pages or so. This is a wonderful world and I loved reading every word about it.
Loved this story line from Lori Holmes. Have read it three times now, and always find new things to enjoy. Good characterization, plot moves along, and there is always a reason to keep reading.
Just a warning. This series will suck you in and make you want more! The author made me get so attached to the characters, that I felt like the people were real. I didn't want the story to end
