I don’t really listen to self help books but as I am going through a significant change in my life right now , I figured I would give this a try . The book is meant to be listened to one chapter a day with “homework” at the end of each … so I listened to the whole think in 2 days and did no homework of course - but I still found it very useful and saw a lot of me in some of the examples and could take a few things away to implement… and may one day go back and re listen and do some of the assignments . I do love that this is an easy book to listen to and relate to .. so many self help books just put me to sleep tbh 😂. 🙊

I’m really impressed with this self-growth mindset audiobook. I received this from Libro.fm & I saw the length & thought “oh I can quickly listen to this and maybe have some take-aways.” But WOW the author really captured a ton of techniques in such a short of time. From growth-mindset, setting boundaries, separating pain from suffering, daily tasks, and setting goals for yourself - she covered it all & made it reasonable for the listener to take that first step for the better in their life. Very good listen!!! Highly recommend for anyone challenging their goals, strength, or personal growth. & it’s just so quick that it’s that much more of a must!!! ** author did suggest listening to each section a day, spreading it out overtime. I’m not that type of listener, but would have taken the advice if i had the physical copy in front of me & would have annotated along the way.

"Find something you love and throw yourself into it, and then, when something changes - and something always changes - go ahead and find it again."

It was after finishing this book that I discovered Fernandez has published numerous other books I came to know and love over the years, particularly 'The Neuroscience of Self-Love'. The advice held within this book is no different. Backed up by scientific research and personally relatable anecdotes, Fernandez lays out the floorplan on ways we limit ourselves in our everyday lives and how we can overcome struggles that seem insurmountable when we make the choice to face them.

Each module you progress through comes with its own daily task that asks you to take stock of a specific area of your life and reflect on it through guided questions based off what was covered in the module. The tasks themselves were straightforward but personally challenging to confront. Sometimes, it meant thinking about things you chose to lock away in your mental attic because you were afraid to deal with the feelings that accompanied its resurgence.

I loved this one and would highly recommend everyone pick up Alexis' other works. I have never tuned into her podcast, but I have read all of her books (unknowingly!). Reading through this reminded me a lot of Brene Brown's, 'Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead' another book I thoroughly enjoyed. It's a great complimentary read to this one.

My absolute favourite portion of this book was Module 3: Relationships. This quote was my favourite,
"You should feel grateful for your close relationships, but you souldn't feel 'lucky' in the sense that it's a fluke that you have this in your life. You either deserve it, or you don't. If you are a good partner, a good friend, and a good employee, you deserve that respect back. Own it. Understand you earned it.'

Reading this felt like having a personal life coach cheering me on to get my act together!

This book is packed with insights on how the brain works and offers practical, actionable tips for making positive changes. The structure is super effective—30 strategies paired with 30 micro-tasks—designed to help build lasting habits. Everything felt realistic and achievable, which is key for a self-help book.

I listened to the audiobook, and it was engaging and easy to digest. I find self-help books more impactful in audio format, and this one was no different. However, there was so much valuable content that I need a physical copy just to go back and reference everything properly. The only downside? The book isn’t out until April, and there was no accompanying PDF with the audiobook (which some self-help books include). That’s the only reason this isn’t a full 5-star read for me!

I’ll definitely be revisiting this in print when it’s released (bonus: the physical copy matches The Neuroscience of Self-Love, which I love). If you’re serious about shifting your mindset and ready to commit to the daily tasks, I highly recommend this book!

⭐ 4.5 stars!

How to Chase Change by Alexis Fernandez Preiksa

As a part of the ALC program I was able to dive into this jewel that helped me to get to know myself and set new goals to improve my life.

This is one of the most inspiring book I’ve read throughout this year! I loved everything I’ve learnt to master my mindset.

I consider this book a must for all those out the who would like to enter the uncomfortable area and test their will to develop effort and tenacity!

I’m so happy I bought this book.
I absolutely adore how AFP writes and the flow of her novels! I also very much enjoy reading the neuroscience behind the psychology. Like the different parts of the brains and their roles.
I love it so much that I actually asked Laura, my psych, to run though it every time she can bring it up for something relevant which is how I knew about the Limbic system part of the brain. So yeah that was cool!

Keen to start the exercises starting tomorrow x

An excellent book on changing the way you think about everything from if you can to how you can, and your gauges of success and failure. This book can change habits and teach you how to overcome your own self defeating limits, but only if you embrace your own ability to change and accept and acknowledge your own biases. Knowing your limits and what you simply won’t do is the first step!

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Audio for the gifted copy.

She has a beautiful accent and unfortunately my ear is tuned to rednecks so it took me twice as long to process her words. I wish I would have read this with my eyeballs instead.

I find that I like non-fiction and self-help books easier to consume as audiobooks than in any other format. This was no different. The book was a quick read. It contains 30 different strategies to bring positive changes into your life and gives us 30 micro tasks to be completed in order to build beneficial habits. It was a quick read and most of the advice was realistic. It would require another round of listening for me to accurately remember and follow all the suggestions, which I may be willing to do. I highly recommend the book to anyone who wants to bring about changes in their mindset, if they are willing to take on each of the assignments.
