Deputy Slater McCullough, a confirmed bachelor, is stunned when security specialist Lana Walsh shows up on his doorstep with an infant. The baby’s mother has been murdered and claimed Slater is the father. Lana reveals that someone is after them…but who? As they hide out, the undeclared heat that has always simmered between Slater and Lana threatens to become a fatal distraction…
Want to know more about me? Well, here it is in a nutshell:
I’m a USA Today bestselling author, and I’ve sold over 100 novels. Yes, 100! Needless to say, I write a lot. I’ve had the honor of receiving the Booksellers' Best Award for romantic suspense, the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award, and I was a finalist for the Rita. My books have been featured in Vogue, Woman’s Day and Woman’s World. I’ve also had nearly a hundred short stories and articles published in national magazines. I love hearing from readers, and you can contact me through my webpage at: www.deloresfossen.com.
I need to stop reading DF because it is clear by now that she will never write anything original. She seems to have a formula in which she pushes out books every month by just copying & pasting same plot over & over again and just changing character names & locations.
I am not trying to be mean here but for anyone who follows this author in her HP Intrigue series, you know I'm right. It's always about an ex FMC or someone Hero knew in past who is in danger and needs his help. He is always a Sheriff or in some law enforcement capacity. There's always 3 side characters who are the potential culprits and only one of them turns out to be the bad guy. MCs get shot at a lot and by 85%-90% or so, MCs will kiss and supposedly develop feelings which leads to a quick ILY on the last page.
So that's the whole plot always. Now for this one, blurb is a bit misleading because the kid is not his which was the only good thing that I liked about this, hence for the 2 stars.
One reviewer stated that Delores Fossen used the same pattern in writing, she just changes the names and locations. I agree. I read another one of her series where you had several siblings who were in law enforcement. Their father, the sheriff, had been murdered. The siblings did not find the culprit until the last book in the series as the mystery was carried throughout the series. The Saddle Ridge Justice series was just the same. Siblings in law enforcement with a murdered father (sheriff). The culprit was not found until the last book, Child in Jeopardy. I am glad that this book was the only one in the series that I bought and read as I did not really care for the book.
Stephanie asks Lana to take Stephanie's baby to the surrogate father, Slater. How did Lana go to the nursery and take the baby with no problems? I don't think hospitals will allow just anyone to take a baby without a lot of hassle. I would think since Slater was listed as the surrogate father that he would be the one that the baby was turned over to.
Stephanie is murdered. Lana, who works for a security firm, takes the baby to Slater. Why did she not go to the security firm for help? Of course since Slater is the main male character and love interest of Lana, he has to be brought into the story somehow.
The title of the book is Child in Jeopardy. I don't think the title fits. The baby, Cameron, is left at the Sheriff's house. No one tries to break in and kidnap the baby. All of the action is between Lana, Slater, and a lot of other characters. The baby is occasionally mentioned, but no attempts of any kind are made to get to the baby. The one in jeopardy seems to be Lana.
Taylor's actions makes no sense. She tells Lana that Lana's father (Leonard) is the bad guy. Yet Taylor goes to his house and appears to trust him. Why does she want Leonard in trouble?
The whole book is just a confusing mishmash of various characters who could be the bad guy or girl. In the middle of the whole mess, Lana and Slater, of course, get together. In the end, everyone says it's about time concerning the romance. Why does everyone seem to think they should be together? There was no indication that anything was really going on with the two over the preceding years.
Of course, at the end, the mystery surrounding the murder of the former sheriff was solved.
There should have been an epilogue. Lana wanted to adopt Cameron. This could be in an epilogue several months later. Also, with Buck and his brother dead, Cameron should inherit several million dollars. What happened with that? Again, this conclusion could be in an epilogue. The book needed a better ending.
I believe I am through buying anymore books by the author. I own several that I have not read. If I want to read anymore of her books, I will go back to what I have.
Another in the Saddle Ridge Justice series in which a newborn is found on the porch of Deputy Sheriff Slater McCullough's ranch. When security specialist Lana Walsh shows up to explain why she placed the baby on his porch, it becomes clear that the baby may be at the center of not one but several mysteries begging to be solved.
Why was the baby's mother killed? Does it have anything to do with the murder of Slater's father years earlier? Is the baby in danger, too? Can Slater and Lana team up to keep the baby safe and to solve the mystery surrounding his mother's death and several others that occur? And will Slater and Lana restore the heat between them that's been banked for years but suddenly comes to life again when they least expect it?
CHILD IN JEOPARDY, Saddle Ridge Justice Book 4 by Delores Fossen
Gripping plot, suspicions, suspects, a baby, attraction, family interference, danger, shattering truth. Delores Fossen once again gives readers all the excitement and the intrigue in CHILD IN JEOPARDY.
WOW, just WOW. Definitely a page turner and so many questions. Twists and turns and just wow. Never saw the end coming the way it did. Will definitely not donate this yet until I read it again
