A Treacherous Tide

Rate this book
A decades-long cold-case murder. A dirty secret out at sea. Sometimes a scrappy inn owner is your only hope.

As Lilly passes the year anniversary mark of her life in Drifter’s Cove, Florida, things seem to be going swimmingly—her first clue trouble must be brewing.

The inn was full, her relationship with Quigley was blossoming, and her new role on the local FBI cold case unit was shaping up—at least on a good day.

But when dead fish start to wash up on shore and a local business owner bites the dust, the good vibes start going south and let’s just say, it was five o’clock somewhere … else.

As Lilly joins forces with her quirky gang, she finds her own life in danger as she races to unravel both the local and cold case murders before time runs out and her ship is sunk.

Between the devil and the deep blue sea?
That’s our girl.

Another great read.

I can easily say these book gets better and better.

Joy Patrick continually adds funny and quirk characters.

Some seam to stay to be regulars while a few at least one in this title ends up being the victim.

Lilly's boss Agent Armstrong from the Feds continually plays his role trying to ignore Lilly's ideas and suggestions.

And ends up throwing caution to the wind when Lilly thinks she found thier perps Bonnie and Clyde at a 30's event. Only when arriving there are two many B&C's to count. After reprimanding Lilly he leaves to finish his pot roast and ball game. Only to be called a short time later when the real B&C perp is found and ends up brandishing a gun. Armstrong rolls in with lights along with several other squad cars.

I have to admit I kind of got annoyed with Lilly and her insecurities with Quigle.

Of course in good 'Ole Peter Quigly fashion he saves Lilly when she almost plumits to her death.

And then later admits what he was really doing at the little jewelry store where his sexy bombshell ex wife works.

Marissa of course returns in style. No spoilers here except I will say it involves a cake and a sultry rendition of Happy Birthday.

I have to say I am said to see this one end since I am nearing the end of this series.

I was not asked to write a review.
I enjoyed the audio version which I purchased on Amazon

In this latest installment of the Magnolia Manor series, we find that Lilly is a member an FBI coldcade unit. (Well, sort of a member). The cold case they're investigating is a long standing one and the lead agent is keen to get it solved.
Meanwhile, Crystal Beach is having its own issues. A woman has been murdered and there's something going on in the water that's causing all the fish to die. The people on the Southside can't fish and the new resort just down the way can't let their guests swim.
So Lilly and her friend Anne (and Dr B, who's back for a visit!) must put their heads together to work out, buy only the murder at the bait shop, but the vote case crime too!
I always enjoy books by Joy Patrick, and I especially love this particular series.
The writing was really well done and I would read one page and then have to read the next. And the next. And the next! The scenes were described in such a way that I could feel as if I were there and smell the dead fish myself!
This is a 5 star book IMO.
I received an ARC from the author and am leaving my honest and genuine review.

Lilly gets her FBI head on to solve a very old case of murder. When a scrappy inn owner is your own hope…For Lilly passing the year long anniversary in Drifter’s Cove. The inn is chocker block full. She gets on with her job in the FBI cold case unit. Supported by her relationship with Quigley blossoming. Now the fish turn up dead but that’s not all, a local business owner has died too…She joins forces with her ole buddy Anne , yes that one . To get things done. The cold cases too and who or what is killing the fishes ? Brilliantly immersive unputdownable story by Joy Patrick. A terrific mix of quirky gang sleuthing and danger to unravel . Awesome stuff as usual with the cryptic clues and the intended plot twist so intriguing it’s hard to resist reading to conclusion and finding out how it ended . Splendid writing, with descriptors sublime characters that carry the story along with awesome interactions are a splendid distraction for an hour or two. Pretending you have nothing else pressing to do.

It's been one year and things seem to be going along smoothly in Drifters Cove, Florida. Lily's Inn is full and Lily can devote time to her new position in the Cold Case department for the FBI. But as they say, all good things must come to an end and the end stinks. There is a fish kill winding up on the beach. What could possibly be causing this travesty? And add insult to injury, a local store owner is found dead. Add to that, and she is working on a cold case. Can she put it all together and solve everything without becoming a casualty herself. With the help of her friend Anne and her backup crew she is investigating everything. And I love the blossoming romance between Lily and Quigely. Wow there is so much to the book that once you start, you just can't help turning pages until the end. Love the ending. I highly recommend this series as well as this book! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

So this is the first book that I read by the author and I am already looking forward to read the series.

The most important thing that I liked about it was the female main character. Unlike many other cozy mysteries, where the main character typically acts like a teenager, the female MC is a level headed person as is evident by her background too.

Lilly acts as a FBI investigator to close a cold case while also running her inn. The other characters while appearing in the previous novels have been given proper introduction, so this book can be read as a standalone book.

The premise was refreshing, the characters are likeable and the writing is on point.

I received an advance copy of the book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The poor, the privileged, and a dead fish.

Changes are coming to Drifter’s Cove and not everyone is happy about it. Big money is transforming one side of the pier and they don’t like the landscape of the old, rundown businesses on the other side. The atmosphere in town darkens when one business owner dies and dead fish begin to wash up on the beach. The success of the Inn might be short-lived unless Lilly and her gang of friends unravel what is going on.

This book has a solid mystery and excellent characters. I received an advance copy of the book but my review is honest and voluntary.

This was interesting and entertaining story. It was an amazing story and I enjoyed it. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even believe my eyes and the suspense was intense and I couldn’t even put it down. It was addicted and mysterious. Lily was a member of the FBI and she has to solve a case. Could this case be a challenge for her and her personal life too. Will the culprit reveal themselves or will he or she be caught. Did she know who did it could she slide blinded within this moment.
I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones

A Treacherous Tide is full of suspense, mystery and just a touch of romance. Lily has her hands full running the inn, working in the FBI's cold case office and solving a new murder as well. At times her antics with Anne will have you laughing out loud. With a cast of characters that develops into wonderful friends Lilly knows she has her own backup, both in crime fighting and in life. I really enjoyed how Ms. Patrick introduces each new character and then makes them part of the group each to fill their own role in Lilly's group. This book gives you an enjoyable escape to Florida with none of the heat or humidity! Enjoy!

A very enjoyable read - perfect for when I want a good cozy mystery. I was able to put this down and pick it a few days later, and it still made sense! Th mystery was believable (not too far-fetched). The characters were fairly well-written and enjoyable to follow. A few minor edits, such as Eli taking off his blindfold twice in chapter 13 without putting it back on, are needed. But all in all, an enjoyable read. I will definitely look for more in this series it, as well as other books by the same author.

Lily is thrilled with the amount of bookings she has at her inn and she has joined the FBI to help on cold cases, but then things take a sudden turn and not for the better. Fish are mysteriously dying, a business owner is murdered, her boss at the FBI is very dismissive of her, and she has an ex con staying in her inn under an assumed name. Luckily she has a lot of good friends to help her investigate even when the situation becomes a bit treacherous. I really enjoy reading this series and I look forward to the next book.

3 1/2 STARS
Joy Patrick writes quick fun interesting cozy/murder/mysteries. Lilly is hitting the one year mark in her move to Drifter's Cove and has settled in nicely. Everything she could ask for is coming true for her. BUT ... this is A Magnolia Manor Mystery right? So, we know things cannot stay that way. Nice read for a few lazy afternoon hours. The mystery keeps one turning the page and the characters surrounding our hero are an amusing bunch to say the least. Fun read.

Lilly loves to throw a party and the Magnolia Manor is the perfect setting. This time though she backed into it.

But you know how it is when she gets a case, pull on the clues, link them together then "she had a hunch. The momentum had begun. "

We don't know her middle name, but you can guess it is danger. Her hunches push her into the danger zone and this case is no exception. The good news is that she has very reliable friends. Friends who can help her pull those links together. It makes for a fun story with lots of friends.

Lilly Livingstone owner of the Magnolia Manor and Anne manager of Corrington estate were together at Crstal Beach and hear a strange conversation. Lilly was part of the FBI investigations team and they had the case of the “swamp slayer “ and now the death of Gladys Thorne to deal with. Someone was deliberately contaminating the beach. A captivating read from the start will great characters. I received this ARC copy and leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.

Treacherous Tides is the seventh novel in the Magnolia Mystery series. We find Lilly attempting to help an FBI cold case team investigate a decades old series of murders. At the same time Lilly’s friend, Anne, is finding dead fish washing ashore on the beach of the new hotel she is managing. This novel introduces several new characters to the series and has enough subplots to keep you engaged until the surprising ending.

Cold Case, New Eyes

Lily is at it again, and this time she is helping the FBI, well sort of. As usual she is investigating the mystery with the help of her friend's and gets caught in the danger surrounding it. I really found this to be a very entertaining and enjoyable murder mystery as well as the development of her relationship with Quigley. Once I started it, I could not put it down.

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily leave this review.

A Treacherous Tide: (Magnolia Manor Mysteries) Joy Patrick.

I love this series, just from inheriting the Magnolia Manor Lily has so many adventures, makes so many friends and£ now is even helping out the Police and the Special Forces. She was born to solve crimes and old ones too. Her analytical mind knows no bounds. Quigley might just have joined her team!! Read the series to find out all the adventures inheriting an old inn can bring. I recommend these books.

Very entertaining! Plenty of laugh-out-loud moments alongside the very well-done mystery.

(Note: Armstrong is so belittling! And dare I say sexist…?

Just saying to him: “psychopath” and “intelligent” are not necessarily exclusive terms, unfortunately.

Grateful for Dr. Bellamy’s validation of Lilly instead!

And…at least Armstrong was sometimes okay.)

*Spoiler alert: Gotta love Eli. Nice slight thread of faith in this one.

This is a tremendously well written mystery that I wouldn't mind reading again. for the satisfying feeling it gave me as Lilly solved the puzzle of the cold case and the current problems with dead fish washing up. The informal ceremony with Seth and Sarge gave me such a warm feeling that it brought tears to my eyes. This is a very well done mystery!!!

Lilly's instincts are firing on all cylinders in this mystery. It's infuriating how they flub her off, but I loved when they were proven wrong, so wrong. So who has the last laugh- none other than Lilly. This was an entertaining suspenseful mystery that drew me in quickly and held my interest until the end. Great conclusion.

There is something fishy going on and Lilly sets out to find answers. Lilly also is trying to prove her self with the new FBI consultant job she started. The community feel of this series is what I love most about it. This was an enjoyable quick read with a cup of tea.

This story again marries a new murder with a cold case Lilly is working on for the FBI. Again she puts herself in harm's way. It will be interesting to see if her character matures and develops as the series progresses.
