Book 4 of the next hit Progression Fantasy series from Actus, bestselling author of My Best Friend is an Eldritch Horror. Featuring a strong, intelligent protagonist, a detailed runic magic system, loads of power progression, and so much more.
With over 10 million views as a webserial, you can experience the definitive version of this smash-hit series on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!
Actus has been writing fantasy stories since the age of twelve, and he's been telling them since he could talk. He's currently working on three main series - Morcster Chef, Steamforged Sorcery, and My Best Friend is an Eldritch Horror. You can find his works on RoyalRoad & Patreon as well as on Amazon.
In addition to his passion for writing, Actus is capable of clearing a two story building with a single jump. That isn't true, but writing about himself in third person gives Actus delusions of grandeur.
I really have mixed feelings about this series. The characters apart from the MC are compelling. The MC is a bit of an idiot. He wants to save every damsel in distress and help everyone, even people who have tried to kill him on several occasions and/or abused his loved ones. He has several major secrets that could easily result in his death and the death of his loved ones. Despite this, he insists on sharing these secrets with more and more people. He only survives due to very thick plot armor. That said the book has some good moments. I’d rate it a 3.7 overall. Since ratings tend to be inflated anyway, I’m giving it a 3.
More than anything, I was surprised by Azel's action in the end. Silvertide's a powerful ally for now. Renewal and other gods were watching our group very closely.
Noah and his group were very amazing as usual. Lee gets to shone more in this book. And Alexandria's entry into the student group is awesome.
And I love Garina and Fredinand. Their relationship is very sweet. Can I get a Sandwich please?
Woooow! What a great book! I ❤ it soooooooo much! Although I'm sad 😕 because I've discovered that can't dive into book 5 because it's only available for pre-order (I'll have to wait for another 7 weeks 'til release day) pooie! With school out on summer break Noah, Moxie and Lee go out to relax, actually taking a vacation. However they're idea of relaxing is to go out adventuring killing monsters for money and thus ranking up in the process! Noah has discovered that having perfect ruins aren't the end all, be all. Because perfect ruins can be made more perfecter (yes, that's a technical term 😆.) So Noah's next job is helping to fix all of their so called "perfect" ruins. So eventually they'll hit the real perfect Rank 4. And with Evergreen out of the picture they have a better chance! And Noah gets unlimited catchpaper which will also help! Wait. What up with the cat?!? With the break over and school back in session the dynamics of the team changes as two more students arrive. So back to teaching and grinding for power and Rank. And after all that, it's really only chicken feed compared to what happens in the rest of the book. So go ahead and jump back into Actus amazing storyline.
Ohhhh and here's a couple of quotes that amused me:
“Close enough that we shouldn’t get closer,” Lee replied. “If it’s changing its shape, then we could get too close and get squished when it transforms...” "That’s a lot of ‘closes’ in one sentence."
"...they’ve come looking for trouble. They can only blame themselves for finding it.”
This series is great. Likeable yet ruthless heroes. Evil but self sacrificing demons. Enemies coming out of the woodwork at every turn. Progression, but not overpowered. Add to that really great pacing and a nice episodic format that feels like each book has a few sub-plots, keeping it interesting. And, it's got a totally original magic system that is really thought out but not too complicated to understand. No deus ex machina, just people overcoming adversity. And sometimes not. Over all, GREAT series, great book 4, and set up perfectly for book 5. I haven't binged a series this far in a while. No regrets.
This is a poor showing in the series, mainly filler. Two thirds of it is slice of life, which was pretty enjoyable but for the fact that the story not advancing at all. About two thirds in, the author suddenly remembered the need of some combat action and introduced two contrived threats. The bait and switch trick with the looming inquisitor was, tbh, cheap, and by the end on the last third the story is still at a standstill with some character growth. It could have been dealt with in a quarter of the volume.
The story starts to meander more and lose focus. There is too much going on, that is completely unrelated, that the author tries to cover and everything suffers for it (eg gods watching people, superhumans, inquisitor, azel, wizen stuff, advanced track, etc). This is the last book in the series I finished since in this book and the beginning of book five content started to drag out and feel like filler.
Definitely the best in the series so far. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Laughed out loud quite a few times and was constantly rooting for each of the characters.
Have to say, I appreciate how their little team is shaping up and can’t wait for book 5.
For Actus, keep up the good work. This is one of the most enjoyable series I’ve read in the genre in quite some time.
Really enjoy the progression speed of the book, feels super balanced. The protagonist’s overlapping effects on those around him also makes the story have more dimension which I appreciate. Overall a fun if short read. Excited for the next installment.
This series is such fun! The story started out fresh and entertaining and each book is even better. My hat is totally off for this author. The characters are multidimensional and improve as the story continues. I highly recommend this to those searching for a entertaining well written series.
So it's December 2024 and when I was about halfway through this 4th book, something Epic came out, Brandon Sandersons 5 th book in The Storm Light Archives, Wind and Truth. I downloaded it and read the first chapter, then closed it and finished this book. I think that is proof of how good this fun story is, I couldn't walk away.
Noah, Moxie, and Lee keep on teaching and looking out for their students. Everyone's getting stronger. Lots of enemies are giving them a hard time. Even some potentially friendly powerful folks are putting them through the wringer in sketchy ways. I'm digging the action, the laughs, the intrigue, the magic system, and the romance. Can't wait for the next book.
Love the story can’t wait for Lee to see Lee overcome her issues and really can’t wait for Noah to get stronger with some hiccups along the way I mean a few more random deaths will be cool but hey he comes back, it’s fine…
This book has been as much fun to read as the other 3. Great characters that you can get emotional involved with their growth and the story line. I wish the author can continue the same quality in the next book.
I love ❤️ 😘 this series. It just keeps getting better and better. I love 💗 the story line and the new characters. It I well ❤️🩹 written, and imaginative.
This book was very entertaining & kept my interest.. the 3rd book in series wasn't bad.. But over all book 4 was just better.. looking forward to audible release.. I wish they weren't so far out.
I’ve been enjoying this series and look forward to seeing where it goes from here. There is plenty of action, adventure, magic, friendship, with a touch of romance in the mix. It is interesting to see the relationship building between the gods and how they are influenced by observing Noah and his group. Renewal definitely seems to have developed a soft spot for them. It’ll be interesting to see where the story goes from here. I was hoping to find out more about Father but maybe we will learn more about him in the next book…

I am really enjoying this series a lot. I look forward to the next book. Probably won't be out until 2025, but I'm still be waiting for it when it happens.

Series just keeps getting better and better! I am truly in love with the characters now. (Lee specifically and now mascot) The book draws you in and next thing you know it’s 2am and you don’t want to stop reading.
