Nikolai is the latest release from this writing duo. As a fan of all their series I was super excited for Nikolai, unfortunately it didn't work for me as much as I hoped. I think for me my biggest complaint is that I felt no connection between Nikolai and Leah. I felt that the relationship and intimate times were completely lacking. The time line was confusing to me too because instead of strengthening their relations and connection we were going back in time to Luna's event and then to Glory's. For me I felt the story was just all over the place and that caused the lack in the development of their relationship. Although this one was a miss for me I do look forward to more by these authors.

Nikolai was the second book in the Volkov Empire series by Sandy Alvarez and Crystal Daniels. The series was a spinoff from the Kings of Retribution MC and closely aligned with the series.
Nikolai Volkov was the son to Dimitri (book one) and half brother to Logan (book one, King’s of Retribution MC). He was strong, alpha, loyal, fierce and protective.The moment he laid eyes on Leah he knew, but he had to bide his time for the perfect moment.
Leah Winters was the friend and roommate to Alba and Sam (books two and six in the King’s of Retribution MC series). We learned she was running from an abusive family but the MC and the Volkov’s were keeping her safe. She was quiet and cautious but loyal to her friends.
To tell Nikolai and Leah’s story, the authors had to back track a few years to when they first met. The first part of the storyline coincided with multiple books within the King’s of Retribution series and then picked up with Dimitri’s story, book one within this series. The last quarter of the book then brought us to the current series and beyond. Kudos to the authors for their accuracy when retelling stories. They filled in gaps but remained consistent with facts and details already shared.
As a whole, I loved both Nikolai and Leah. I was glued to the book, not wanting to put it down until the end. It was well written (minus some editing errors) and well developed. With that said, I felt the end (of the conflict) was rushed and I wanted slightly more. It was a huge build up and then the conflict just ended abruptly. No spoilers so no elaboration, but I craved more. As to the relationship build up, it was spot on and a perfect ending.
As to the series, I’d love to see the series continue. We have Sasha, Victor and possibly Maxim remaining. Sasha and Victor could even be a combined book - oh to think of the possibilities! Either way, I love the authors and can’t wait to see what’s next.

A love that is meant to be. A perfectly imperfect journey, where flaws and fears become strengths and the light truly shines at the end. This is what I came up with after reading the last page of Nikolai. It's hard to find the right words to describe perfection. My reader's heart is full and I haven't been able to stop thinking about this epic and magical story. I still get goosebumps when remembering some of the scenes and the words exchanged.
I'm certain that after Lost King (book 6 in The Kings of Retribution series, which tells Quinn's story), Nikolai and Leah's has been the most requested book by talented writing sisters Sandy Alvarez and Crystal Daniels. I mean, the breadcrumbs trail spans over six Kings books and Demetri: The Volkov Empire. We have known Nikolai since The Kings of Retribution started and he has been attracted to Leah since he met her in The Darkest of Light (book 2).
But one thing I've learned after reading every single book written by Crystal and Sandy is that they always surpass expectations. And that even with the wildest imagination, I won't be able to even get close to guessing the epic stories they deliver. There wasn't a single moment in the plot of Nikolai where I knew in advance how it was going to pan out.
Wondering what I'm talking about? Let explain it with a question. Even after so many books, do we really know Nikolai? He has always been a character of few words. We have seen him whispering to Leah and in awe with her. He is the heir of the Volkov empire, and it has been involved in way too many dangerous operations. Yet, he steps away from his family business in Russia to pursue his own in Polson, MT. Trust me when I say, you have no idea and will be in awe with this larger than life character.
Leah's story is heartbreaking. Years of abuse have made her doubt who she is and her worth. Only one person will be able to get through her and help her uncover her strength. She is sweet and a bit naive. But, under all of her fears, lies a diamond. Nikolai's devotion to Leah is unrivaled. But, in order to fully love each other, Leah will have to learn to love herself first.
Nikolai is filled with angst, slow burn, and all the feels. It contains some of the most heartfelt and beautiful words I've read in a long time. It's an emotional journey, that gave me chills and made me cry. Only after savoring each word, I can say how glad I am that Crystal and Sandy made us wait for this story. Because it gave Leah and Nikolai's journey much more meaning. Time is essential for this book. And it's why, as readers, we will be able to experience it as if we had been there. Because, in a sense, we were.
In a true Sandy and Crystal fashion, Nikolai is a treat for fans of The Kings of Retribution MC. An opportunity to experience more of these beloved characters. If Demetri was their first dip into the mafia genre, Nikolai is their consecration.

The timeline of this one is a bit long, you see events you know of from the Kings of Retribution series, but you get different points of views. I liked how Nikolai played the long game with Leah. He didn't do it to be malicious or anything, just knew Leah was a very wounded soul and needed time. It was fun to see Leah grow more confident with herself and then actually make a move with Nikolai, just sucked in how she was blocked, yet so great when Nikolai realized what happened and chatted with her about it.
I also really loved how the MC stepped up and took Leah in. Everyone of the guys had a chance to let her know how much she meant to the club and that she was family. A very important step due to how she was treated in her own family!
I liked how this one ended. Sure it was a shotgun wedding, but in the best sense of the word and for people who deserved all the happiness.

Yes! Do you know what I did to find this book?! I went through every book to find this one, added the Facebook page, stalked the instagram post and finally added the Prince of the Russian mafia to my tbr and I was screaming when I read the blurb ! Yes Leah girl yaaaaaaas ! I can’t wait !

This was a sweet book.
There was plenty of danger and action.
The relationship and tension between Nikolai and Leah have been trickling in on the edges of the last 4 or so books connected to this series.
So seeing them finally together and making a life with each other, happily, was totally satisfying.
My score did drop though because there was hardly any steam at all. We get 2 scenes. One of them a fade to black moment. And then some implications about their other endeavors.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s totally fine.
I’m just a smut slut who, after all the other books, expected more than I got.
Oh well.
I still really enjoyed getting to see Leah happy.
And learning a tiny bit more about Nikolai.
I’ll definitely be reading Riggs again because I don’t think I’ll be completely satisfied until I know all the Kings and the women who bring absolute chaos into their lives.

Oh lordy! Nikolai is a perfect example of the apple not falling far from the tree. Nikolai doesn't mess around when it comes to his woman. He is fierce and passionate, just downright yummy, exactly like his dad. Leah is sweet and shy, just the perfect, loving woman for him. Their story wasn't easy, Leah's whole life has been filled with pain and loneliness. It wasn't until she met Alba and Sam that she had anyone in her corner. Then she meets the Kings and they do all they can to help her, protect her. Nikolai moves slowly, wanting to win Leah's trust first and foremost. Once they get together, I wanted to just stay right there and bask in the beauty that is this couple. This sister duo has done it again, another page turner, another wonderful possessive man finding his soul mate. All the love for Nikolai and Leah!

Nikolai Volkov has been groomed to take over his father's role in the Volkov Empire since he was young. He still has nightmares about the way he was entered into the world though. Now that he has reconnected with his half brother though he juggles his time between his duty to his father and his running of his construction business. What he did not expect was to feel extremely protective of his secretary Leah Winters. She is a bright spot in a dark world for him and he knows she is it for him. He takes his time knowing she needs it and to build trust. Can he protect her from the threat within though?
I was waiting for this book and to see how Nikolai and Leah would play out and it exceeded my expectations. I could not put this one down. Nikolai is now one of my favorite characters by these authors. Excellent.

OMFG!!! Sandy and Crystal have completely and totally destroyed me with this book!!! This book gives a whole new meaning to the phrase slow-burn..., but once that slow-burn catches its flame it ignites with a passion unlike anything before it. The emotion that is written within these pages will leave you breathless and heartbroken. The strength that Leah possesses is amazing. However, she does not see it that way until Nikolai opens her eyes to the world she belongs too.
We have met Leah and Nikolai in previous books, but the glimpses we get of them do not do them justice. Leah is a beautiful soul who has had such a hard life. She has been kicked down so much over the years that she becomes a shell of who she really is. Upon meeting her for the first time Nikolai is drawn to her like a moth to the flame. He knows he will end up spooking her if he tries to move to fast. He knows exactly what to do to piece his malyshka back together. Now do not be fooled by the sweet, caring, and oh so lovable man that he is to Leah. Nikolai is not someone whom you would want to cross. When he is crossed he becomes a man on a mission, and he will complete the mission anyway he sees fit.
I love how each book is based off a different couple, but centralizes about the importance of family. How you should be able to depend on your family in your time of need, and how your family should be there no matter what.

The world is just not ready for the level of greatness this book is. You might think you’ve been ready for Nikolai, but I’m here to tell you that you’re mind is about to be BLOWN. Sandy Alvarez and Crystal Daniels delivered so much more than I ever expected in this book.

Leah and Nikolai finally get their story! Full of drama and suspense. Nikolai is very protective of Leah, he’s so sweet and strong for her. Leah battles herself because of the way she was raised. Keeps you on the edge until the very end. HEA.

First of all bravo ladies, this book made my year! Full of the perfect combination of everything we love from Sandy & Crystal, but this book definitely has so much more. I definitely have to agree that Nikolai is the epitome of the alpha male, the minute he sees Leah, he is done for. And it was perfect to see their love blossom, their chemistry was prefect right from the start. Leah, such a doll, you’ll be rooting for her to get the happiness she deserves. Toward the end of the book, it will gut you but you have to experience it to understand the love & devotion Nikolai & Leah have to each other. My heart broke for Leah throughout this book, but she is one of the strongest characters these two ladies have ever written. Loved this book from start to finish, looking forward to their next book.

We have seen glimpses of Leah and Nikolai in previous books, and their story is one that I was looking forward to. Leah is a timid introvert due to her childhood years of abuse. She meets Alba and Sam in college, and when she needs to escape from her abuser, she ends up in Polson under the Kings of Retribution’s protection. We know Nikolai is Logan’s brother and has come to live and work in Polson so that he can get to know Logan and develop a relationship with him. Nikolai runs King’s Construction, and when she needs a job, Nikolai hires her. Sparks fly between these two from their first meeting; however, Nikolai has to take things at a snails pace so not to scare Leah away. Their love is a slow burn. Leah has a hard time believing anyone could love her or feel attracted to her after the emotional and physical abuse she has suffered. Nikolai makes it his mission to prove to Leah that she is a beautiful woman capable of love. Once she comes to that realization, their relationship blossoms. This is an action packed story with all of our beloved characters making appearances. Leah so deserves her happy ending with Nikolai. Their story is one that will make you laugh and cry. Another great job by Sandy Alvarez and Crystal Daniels!!

Sometimes you find a book that you don't realize you need so much. Sandy and Crystal often write the books that I truly need at that time. This time it was this amazing book.
Leah absolutely broke my heart. Her self esteem issues are the same ones I deal with from being bullied and it absolutely made me feel for her on such a deep level.
It was an interesting book to read because some of the stuff you knew what happened because this went back to Alba and Gabriel Initially. It was so fun to read about the different story lines from a different perspective.
I loved seeing the growth of Leah throughout this book. It shows that love really can heal all old wounds

I have been waiting for Nikolai's story since we met him in Undaunted. Him and Leah have been on the periphery of all the books we've seen glimpses hinting that they were meant for eachother and have been waiting to see their story play out. It was completely 100% worth waiting for their story is perfect. Nikolai is Leah's perfect match. I dont want to give any spoilers away so all I'm going to say is he his just as swoon worthy and willing to work for his woman as his Dad. I cant wait for more of the Volkov series.

Just wow!!! I have been waiting for Nikolai and Leahs story and they did not disappoint at all. As you learn from previous books in the MC series Leah was a collage student whos home life was absolutely horrible and she endured abuse worse then anyone could imagine. Nikolai is the son of Demetri and set to take over the Volkov Empire. These to will bring you to tears and brake your heart then by the end they put it back together. I couldn't have imagined a better ending for these 2. I loved this book and recommended the whole series you wont be disappointed.

Another amazing story in the spin-off world of Kings of Retribution. Nikolai is the brother to one of the MC members, and his story has many inter-lapping characters and events. He is a strong alpha male, heir apparent to a Russian crime family, but with a big heart and ability to see love and family as the end goal. Leah is a fragile and broken young woman, but how she blossoms and grows with time and space and care is a lovely thing to watch. The long buildup to a relationship between these 2 is worth the read :) You will love the characters and the resolution!

I received an ARC and exchange for an honest review. This book was long overdue and did not disappoint!! I loved their story. I had no idea going into this one how horrific Leah’s past was. I’m glad she found Nickolai and he showed her true worth and how beautiful/special she really was. They had a lot of chemistry in this read. Their story takes place during Demetri’s so I love that we can connect the dots now. Great read and great addition I’m hoping we get a story from Maxim or Sasha!!!

Do you know that feeling of need one book so freaking bad that you can't stop thinking about it?
That story that will make you scream and blush at the same time?
That book that you know will be freaking awesome?
Well, that was me when I got a glimpse of these two characters.
So much needed to be said. So many questions? So many things crossing my mind all at once.
Since that day, I've been wanting to read this book and I kept asking the authors to hurry up. Lol
Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez are the MC queens but also the mafia queens.
They know how to grab your attention, how to make you interested not only in the book you're reading at the moment but also for the ones that will come.
Their writing is raw, wild, dangerous as well as spicy and hot...
Just see for yourself.
Nikolai is their latest release and it's the second book from The Volkov Empire.
I advise you to read Demetri first. Heck, I advise you to read all of their books.
This new book explores the lives of Nikolai and Leah.

My heart was so big that I thought it might burst.
This book killed it and I was sad that it was over.
Sublime plot, very well written, super engaging, super intense, and with a touch of seduction and mystery.
It was amazing to witness the way Leah grew up and it was perfect to see the way Nikolai evolved.
I'm at a loss of words because I can't say enough good things without spoiling.
And if you know me, you know that I hate to spoil.
This book has presented us with family bonds, love, loyalty, desire as well as betrayal, crime, punishment, and the dark side...
I was glued to my kindle since I started to read this book and was pretty mad when I needed to stop reading to attend to my responsibilities.
Jesus... I wished I could have stayed reading non-stop but I couldn't.
It was great to read about The Kings, I really missed them. And Quinn... Oh boy... He's nuts...
These two ladies had created another masterpiece and you can't miss it.
Sandy and Crystal... You guys rock and this book is another example of an epic story.

June 5, 2020Got the chance to read it ahead of time and let me tell you guys something if you didn’t like Nikolai than friend your gonna love him when you get to read about him and if you already liked him than your gonna fall In love with him.
I love myself some Russian Mafia. I love reading about mafias in general but my all time favorite them Russians and I was so happy when the authors announced they were gonna write about the Hot sexy Volkov men and I for all was supper excited 😊. What has me wondering is if there gonna continue or are they done with just those 2 in the mafia family curious mind wanna know. Anyways let’s get back on track Nikolai is omg everything he’s hands down everything I’m done swooning to the max over here he really sweet and cute and just plain everything you can imagine in a wonderful man. He’s there for his family and his Leah. What I liked the most was that this was really not your typical romance I liked that they touched on a insecurity that many women and young girls have about ourselves because society has us thinking that we have to stick to one beauty standard and some of us are not like that and it made my day when I read that in this book how no matter what size you are we’re all beautiful in so many ways we cannot let society tell us that we’re only beautiful if we have a perfect body because let’s face it we don’t like I said we’re all beautiful in all our shape and size and every we got going on we’re all worth of love. So I really liked that in this one we get to see how she made Leah see her self for the beautiful Women she was and that she had Nikolai to help her see her later and love herself for who she is inside and out. Leahs dad is a piece of work karma comes back to those who hurt us the most and in the end he got his. We get to see Leah transform from self doubting herself because an evil person got in her head and told her she’s ugly and not worth anything when she was all but with everything. So really this story is going to be by far my favorite of all the Mc and now the Mafia I dot really want to get into more details becas I’m going to end up spoiling it for everyone all it got to say is read o really recommend it to everyone y’all are gonna love it.

We have been getting glimpses of them since The Darkest of Light (book 2) and have been begging for their story and what a wonderful story we have been given.
We learn more about how unbelievably heartbreaking and horrifying abusive her life was growing up until she meets Sam and Alba at college who help rescue her. There she becomes family with them,The Kings of Retribution MC,Nikolai and his father. They help her realize especially Nikolai that she is beautiful, worthy,lovable, perfect the way she is and more powerful than she thought.
Nikolai is the heir to Volkov Empire but has step aside for now to run his own business in Polson,Montana. We discover more about his past which gives their story even more meaning and understanding. He is fierce and protective when it comes to Leah. Their journey started out as a slow burn because she was so emotionally and physically abused before moving to Polson so he needed time to build her up and make her feel safe. I love how passionate, patient, encouraging, loving and protective he is of her. He would do anything for even kill if necessary to keep her safe. Their story is action packed and brings the MC and Volkov Empire into the fight. I felt so many things while reading this emotional journey that I even found myself crying at times. This truly epic story was so worth the wait.

This is book 2 of the Volkov Empire series and focuses on Nikolai and Leah's story.
If you've read the Kings of Retribution series you know we first meet Nikolai in book 1. He's really grown and adapted into his new life since moving to Polson while still juggling his responsibilities to his family empire and their business dealings in Russia.
This book stems all the way back to the beginnings of the Kings so it is nice to see what Nikolai was going through as well as Leah during the events that we read about in those books.
Nikolai is a man who knows what he wants. He exudes power and demands respect. He's a man of action. He cares deeply for those he loves and will stop at nothing to keep them safe, even if it means risking himself.
Leah meets Nikolai during a vulnerable time in her life. We see how her past has beaten down her self-worth leaving her with low self-esteem and practically no confidence. Until she meets Nikolai. His small gestures and compliments breathes new life into her.
Nikolai awakens something in Leah that no one has, but Leah also awakens feelings in Nikolai that he's never felt before. He knows he needs to tread carefully with Leah's fragile state, but fortunately he is a patient man and knows it will pay off in the end. Nikolai and Leah's journey is not simple, but nothing in life worth having ever is.

Nikolai and Leah were a long time coming and boy it does not disappoint. So much was packed into this book, covering so much that was happening. Nikolai and Leah's relationship spans quite a few of the books and this becomes evident as you read. Anyway, back to the main couple of the book. Nikolai is hot...so so hot, so so alpha and so so instense. Just like his father, love hits him like a force and just like his father, he bides his times and builds his game plan - the winner takes all! Not once does he falter in showing Leah that he is all in with her. His instensity of his side the of the relationship makes you want to fan youself to take the heat down. Nikolai knows that Leah has had a hard life and has no self esteem or confidence. Bit by bit he builds her back up and as she slowly comes out of her shell makes sure no other man is going to swoop in and take what is his.
Leah's life growing up leaves a lot to be desired. Through the love of her friends and the steady insistant, constant presence of Nikolai Leah slowly becomes the beautiful woman everyone around her knows she can be. Her MC family have her back and the Volkovs make it known she is theirs. This is a love story that has you cheering at the end!

Through the love of her friends and the steady insistant, constant presence of Nikolai Leah slowly becomes the beautiful woman everyone around her knows she can be. Her MC family have her back and the Volkovs make it known she is theirs. This is a love story that has you cheering at the end!

A love story a year in the making! So worth the wait!
I'm not sure that my words are enough to describe how much I loved this book! Nikolai and Leah...I love love LOOOVE the way they are together!! You love them as single people, but when they come together, they are one of those couples that you know will grow old together and pray you get to have this type of relationship. His patience for and with her, her innocence and goodness despite having a past like hers, makes them work. Where on the outside, it seems that they are opposites, to get to know them you see, they are made for each other. This is a couple many of us have been rooting for since he laid eyes on her. And boy do they not disappoint!!
I'm just upset that I'm done reading it. I can't seem to express how amazing this book is! It's not rushed. I felt like this was a truly happy ending/beginning. Just about every book you read in the romance genre ends on a happy note...but this one feels different. Something about this just feels so solid and complete. It's like seeing soulmates find each other!! Yes!! That's what it is! That's what this book is! It's not about a man and a woman finding love, it's so much more. It's about a man and a woman finding their soulmate. That's how complete this feels to me. It feels like it's based on a real live person's happily ever after!
From start to finish, this book kept me glued to it, kept me from sleeping, kept me from doing family stuff (oh come on...we're all in quarantine, we've had enough time together - this was my ME time and believe me I deserved it! 😉) and I have absolutely no regrets about it because I had quality time with my friends, Nikolai and Leah!
Sandy and Crystal have this wonderful ability to make me believe that people can actually have a HEA, just by using their words.

I wish there was more to this series. This is Nikolai's and Leah's story. This series was a spin off of the MC.
Nikolai is the son of Demetri and half brother to Logan the VP of the MC. Nikolai is the one who will take over for his father when he decides to step down from head of the mafia family...until then he is part owner of a construction company. He hires Leah to work the front desk and pays her under the table so her family can't track her down. He fell for her the moment he set eyes on her but knows she has been through something horrible so he is just slowly getting to know her.
Leah is a sweet young lady who knows nothing about how the world works. She has been sheltered her whole life. Abused by her father both physically and mentally. She has no self confidence in herself. She thinks she is fat and ugly because that is what she has been told her whole life by a man who was supposed to protect her and love her. She was stuck because of who her father is...a cop.
This story has triggers if you have trouble reading about abuse. She will have to learn to look inside herself to see what her friends and Nikolai see and be ready to face her past that is worse than even she knows.
Story can be read as a stand alone but best if read in order. Adult content

I knew Nikolai and Leah’s story was going to be an exceptional read and may I say the sister team didn’t disappoint me. Sandy and Crystal have written a very exciting thrilling storyline with characters that you can’t help but love and root for. Nikolai is the heir to the Volkov Empire, a very dangerous man when crossed. He also runs Kings Construction in tandem with the Kings of Retribution MC brothers. Nikolai and Leah meet via their connections with the MC. Leah is under the Kings of Retribution’s protection. She is running from her family. A family that has hurt her and brought her to her knees on more than one occasion. She is a shy, scared woman with very low self esteem. But Nikolai knows better. He sees the sexy, fiery woman she is underneath all the pain and scars and he wants her for his own.
The action packed storyline that brings these two together is simply glorious. It’s suspenseful, heartbreaking, emotional and heart soaring all rolled up into one. I can’t recommend reading it enough. While it’s easily read as a standalone, I highly recommend grabbing up all the Kings of Retribution MC books as well as book 1 of the Volkov Empire. You won’t be sorry you did. 2 Thumbs Up and 5+ Stars.

Sandy Alvarez and Crystal Daniels are 2 of my favorite authors, their books are just the best, and Nikolai is no exception. We met Nikolai and sweet Leah in the Kings of Retribution series and through several of those books we’ve watched their attraction for each other grow. I have been waiting for their story, so curious to see how the sisters handled this intriguing couple. Well let me tell you, they did an amazing job! Nikolai is a strong, at times overbearing, fiercely protective alpha man who sets his sights on shy, awkward and abused Leah. Watching this confident, take charge man care for Leah and patiently pull her out of her shell and see the beautiful woman he sees is just swoon worthy...he’s so precious. In typical Alvarez & Daniels fashion, Nikolai is sexy, thrilling and exciting. We also get to visit with the Kings of Retribution family and Demetri and Glory which is always a plus. Nikolai was definitely worth waiting for and now I’m hoping for more...more Kings of Retribution and more Volkovs...these guys and their ladies are addictive! Great job, once again, ladies. Thanks for sharing your vivid imaginations with us!

The Dynamic Duo sister writing team of Crystal Daniels and Sandy Alvarez have written another phenomenal book in Nikolai. The slow build to a lasting relationship of two broken people has never been written better. Nikolai and Leah have walked through the fire of their lives and have both weathered to tempered steel. Together they are a couple unlike any other. The depth of the character development had me invested in them from the very beginning. Nikolai's love for his Malyshka is always open and so real. He proves it by his care in all the ways he handles Leah. Leah is strong, resilient, brave but yet so insecure of her personal worth that it takes Nikolai's unfailing love to traverse this beautiful journey to their HEA. We get to visit with some of our favorite Kings which always feels like coming home. I am always amazed with these authors ability to complete a story so beautifully but always leave us anticipating more..... I was privileged to received an ARC copy for my honest review and as always it was an amazing journey.
