The Black Rose #1

Embracing the Darkness

Rate this book
Before you read this book, please be ready to delve into a dark and taboo world of demons and angels who can and will do as they please. This series, especially the first novel, will immerse you in a world filled with dark places and even darker beings. They are not human, and do not act the way you and I act, or think the way you and I think, so please be ready for some controversial themes and for me to push the boundaries! Please be aware that this novel depicts explicit sexual relationships between consenting adults, including romantic suspense, and may not be suitable for those under the age of 18.

Young Cate Rose's seemingly normal life is shattered by the revelation that her father is the Devil. She then leaves her old, human life on Earth behind and goes to Hell, where the Dark Princess must then discover her own path while embracing her darkness and finding the right balance for both her humanity and her dark prowess.
Her strange world is turned upside-down even further as she is emotionally exploited and scarred by further events that sweep her in different directions, and into the arms of very different lovers, all of them powerful beings that dominate both her and the world around her.
The Dark Princess's tumultuous existence has many twists and turns in store before she eventually takes control of her life and follows her own path at last, but which one will she choose, and to whom will it lead?

Um did you all read the same thing I just did?

Admittedly, I DNF at 27% but God only knows how the rest of you finished this shit. Because I think I actually started to feel my brain cells commit suicide.

FYI this bitch is fucked up.
> She fucks her brother
>> Then her dad
>>> Then her brother also fucks her other sister.
>>>> Then she marries her dad who just so happens to be Satan?

Okay so if all that still doesn't convince you not to read this book, I will continue with a list of reasons you should stay far, far away from this mess.

#Reason number 1 - All the incest. I can deal with kink, I can love a bit of BDSM but this crosses a major line for me and I can't believe that's not in the warning. SO, BE WARNED.

#2 - For a "Princess of hell" Bitch is so fucking boring and meek. Like a scared kitten. She lets her BFF get tortured. She lets herself be tortured for like over a year and just forgives Satan like, oh it's okay you were just upset by my rejection because you love me so that makes it all okay and now we can get married and have incest babies.

#3 - The book itself, even if you skim over the creepy incest and try to survive how boring Cate is.... is still so damn boring. Like my God. - It could of had so much more potential, by showing a decent into darkness and showing interaction between demons/witches etc but no. All it does is talk about Cate wanting to just do whatever Satan says to please him and talking about how much she wants to shag her various family members.

#4 When Cate is like 30 years old, she makes herself look 15 and then seduces and sleeps with her younger brother.... Um, what? I really don't think that classifies as consensual sex between ADULTS now does it? HE'S 15!

I could go on..... but I'm really struggling for sanity at this point so I'm going to stop here.

This book is unlike any book I have read. It's well written and the characters are so easy to fall in love with. It is about a girl name Cate that grew up in a single mom family until she was 18. That is when she meets her father and all HELL breaks loose. Cate has to learn about her father's side and how things are and to obey him. Why you ask?.. well because he is the Devil. Throughout the book Cate does what is asked of her even if she doesn't agree with it. There is always a war for her between her father and the Angels or rather one Angel in particular. Somehow Cate begins to understand more about how her powers work and to gain her confidence. I'm not one to give the book away in a review but I will say if you like paranormal stories about good and evil, angels and demons then this is definitely the book for you. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock

3 Fangs

When Cate Rose comes of age on Earth, she is told she is the Devil's daughter and willingly goes to Hell with him. There starts an incredible journey for Cate. A journey on which at times she will lose herself, but never it seems her humanity no matter what she goes through and, boy, does she go through a
lot. Be ready for a completely wild ride. For Cate, being the Dark Princess, means being manipulated by the Devil and, ultimately, by his enemy, until finally coming into her own. The interlacing of stories throughout this book keeps your continued interest, if you can get past the first quarter of the book which I found floundered quite a bit. All in all, Cate's relationships began to fascinate me the more of the book I read. There was definitely a lot going on in this book between humans, witches, demons, beings of light and dark beings, It covered a large spectrum of supernaturals. Cate's happiness was ever in doubt. I am giving this book 3 Fangs. With some serious editing, I am sure this book would have been a much smoother read and, although I loved the premise behind it and the cast of characters, I found it had a lot of pedantic and repetitive detail that was hard to ignore.

Embracing the Darness
by Laura Morgan
Book 1 of The Black Rose Series
I was ask to give a honest review of this book. I will honestly say that it took me awhile to get into the book, I don't know if it was just the writer's style or if it was because of some of my own beliefs. Needless to say that when I finally got into the story of Cate and her life with either Luke, Uriel or Harry it finally hooked me. This story brings about alot of twists and turns but by the end of the book, I was looking forward to the second in the series. As of now I am giving it a 3 star rating only because of the numerous errors the editor's missed. I think YA will find the book more to their liking than someone older, but I believe that with the second book I may discover it more to my liking. Either way, it is a good PNR book of a twisted yet believable story line.

**** Four stars for this brilliantly written tale, of demons, angels, witches, and the almight devil himself. Things change dramatically, and with good reason. I dont give away spoilers, cos that's just not cool.
I loved Laura's style of wrting, and the tone of the book is consistant throughout. Dialogue, imagination, and great characters all result in a great read.
I was a paranormal virgin up until reading this, and to be honest it took me a while to get into in. But that is no reflecton to the author, just my personal preference. Thank you Laura for popping my paranormal cherry in a brilliant fashion.

Well well well....where do I start!! Dam this women has written a Paranormal story that will knock your socks off!! From Angels to demons, witches and the devil himself, this story has plenty of twist and turns with a little bit of taboo in it to keep you on your toes, had me gasping at one point! Written very well and was a read where I wanted to close my eyes shut but had to read on! Well through my fingers that is... I'm a massive lover of Paranormal and even better if its a dark read to. If you like naughty, dark and a**kicking this is a book for you.

An absolute eye opening revolution of a story! I have never read anything of this genre before, opting for more romantic fairytales, but I cannot wait go read the next book.
I openly admit that there was a few sticking points early on in the story, but without giving the story away, once I just accepted this I thoroughly enjoyed the mesmorising tale of darkness vs light and the power within of the daughter of darkness.
This wonderfully written tale is fast paced and has unexpected turns that kept me guessing throughout.
Highly recommended

I was given this book by SN Reviewers for an honest opinion.

This book was great for the paranormal and romance audience. The plot had you going back and forth to Heaven and Hell. You were in Heaven for a bit and then in Hell for a bit. Great job distinguishing between the two worlds! Great and easy read. Can't wait to start the seconds book in the series. 5 stars all the way!!!

***WARNING*** this book contains dark themes, explicit sexual content, taboo subjects, torture. If any of these things bother you or may be a trigger, please don't read this book or series.

This book is very well written, smooth flowing and easy to read. The author does a great job portraying the characters, their emotions and the experiences they go through. The book kept me captivated from beginning to end.

I love Cate's character. While at times she seems timid and shy, she is a strong woman. While maybe not in the beginning, she is strong, powerful, confident, loving, caring and compassionate. She's the type of woman who doesn't care for people telling her what to do or how to feel. She comes to things in her own time. While she may come to forgive certain things, she doesn't forget. She is a natural born leader. She becomes the kind of woman that people want to look up to.

Lucifer is as twisted as you can imagine him to be. He is used to getting whatever he wants when he wants it. If for some reason he can't have it, he acts like a petulant spoiled child and throws a tantrum, then does whatever he feels is necessary to get what he wants.

This books contains romance (some steamy scenes), mystery, intrigue and so much more. I have read the book before and am reading the series again as there is a new book coming out, yet I still find that i can't put the book down. I am reading every moment possible to see what happens next.

I started to read this as it was recommended by a friend.

I didn't finish it. That says a lot because once I start something I have to finish it.

Too much incest for me and a sappy MC. Maybe it picked up after I left off, but I wont be trying it again.

I met Laura Morgan at a Comicon in Birmingham in June, where I purchased all 5 of the Black Rose series books. She did warn me that they were dark, so knew there were some uncomfortable situations in the book.

It took me a while to get into the story because the use of "immediately" and "Quickly" were used way too many times and really annoyed me. Also I thought there was too much sex. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind reading about sex at all, but come on! Who has THAT many organsms!! Jealous or what??? Once I got over this, and more into the story, I really began to enjoy it. The story was full of action and twists and turns and definitely had me hooked.

I will be carrying on with this series and would recommend, but only if you are prepared for all the dark stuff - and there is a lot.

I really didn't know what to expect from this book. I have to admit it took me a while to get into it but I got there eventually and was thrilled at the twists and turns that Laura put in. The only detraction was the amount of grammatical errors that I would hope that either a copy-editor or definitely a proofreader would have spotted and deleted. Without these errors the book would have been a faster read as I had to keep going over certain sentences to find the sense in them. Saying all of that I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

If you are weird and love a bit of darkness then I recommend you read this book. I absolutely adored it, it was the first I've read from the author and I have just finished re-reading and it was amazing the second time around. There are some out of this world concepts but you are immersed into a dark world where strange actions are considered normal, which I loved. It was easy to get into and the story moved along just right. I can't wait to get onto book 2 🖤

The writing style took a bit to get used to and I still wish there was more of the characters inner dialogue about their feelings and motivations. But I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters growth, I just wanted to be a bit more in their feelings. 7.75 / 10

After falling in love with this cover and being a growing fan of dark reads, I couldn't wait to start this series. The story of Cate coming of age and learning of her parentage and what her future would hold at the hands of her father. Satan.

Excerpt:
I know that you are known here as Cate, but the name I had wanted you to be given was actually Hecate, as homage to the fabled dark goddess of fire, witchcraft and the moon, perfect for you.

Cate would learn of her place in Hell and leave behind her human life. But with good friendships and a family (all be it a little strange), she finds her own version of happiness and love within it all.

As Cate learns about not only the darkness of hell but also the light from an angel named Uriel, who despite the preconceived knowledge of being "good" is far from it...

Excerpt:
She couldn't kicked herself for letting herself fall for it, she was just another piece in another game, and she was angry as hell.

But as a war rages on between dark versus light and the fallout from it, Cate finds herself a life on Earth with a human who accepts her and her baggage...knowing the whole truth And what may come she lets another man into her heart despite the fears of what the future may hold.

Excerpt:
know I can never keep you here when he returns, but until that time comes I'm going to love you for every minute of every day. I'd sell my soul if it meant you could stay with me.

This story for me took a while to grow into and connect with, but it did happen. The relationships Cate develops or is thrust into seems backwards and make you question yourself and keeps you on your toes that's for sure! But the author provoked feelings in me that I can honestly say I haven't felt before.

A very dark paranormal read that has left me wanting to learn more and see where the rest of the series goes.

Final excerpt:
For some reason she believed it would all work itself out in the end, she just had to sit back and edit for it to play out. She had faith for the first time in her entire life.

3.5* rating

Embracing the Darkness (The Black Rose,#1) by Laura Morgan is one of the most intriguing books I have read to date. I honestly didn't know if I liked it or not while reading, not because of the storyline or it being a tad controversial or taboo. On reflection after I finished it I came to the conclusion that I loved it!! It kept me guessing right up until the last sentence what would become of Cate and the other characters entwined in her story.

The storyline was incredible, original, full of tension and drama. I especially loved the power play between Uriel and Lucifer and that Uriel had a bit of a bad side even though he's good. I love the perception of good and evil which will make you question yourself. If something is evil, can it do good? And if something is good, can it do evil? Hmm..the mind doth wonders.

The only thing I didn't like about the book is the time frame. I think the gaps are too big but on the other hand it also works. I wanted to know what happened within the time gaps but yet if they happened I'd want to know what will happen in the future too. Embracing the Darkness is so in depth that I think it'll make an amazing tv series.

Laura Morgan is a author to watch out for. Her writing is concise and eloquent and safe shows depth and character development throughout the story. She will suck you in so far into the story that you'll want to be apart of the world of Hell or Heaven or maybe if your like me both.

I would highly recommend this 5 star read. Enjoy!

Holy Hell!

What the actual flip have I just read?!
I was fascinated, then a little bit disgusted, then back to fascinated and awed.
The concept behind this story is one I haven't come across before. I was amazed by Laura's take on a paranormal tale of angels and demons.
It is truly dark. My head was spinning, my heart was aching, my stomach was churning. This is definitely not one for the faint hearted, neither in length nor content and even if you think you've read every aspect of paranormal, you've got another thing coming when you get stuck into this.
The characters are all so easy to love, whether they're the bad guys or the not so bad guys. The style of writing really brings out their character traits...you are truly sucked in to believing the same things Cate does. Uriel the Angel...is he good? Is he bad? Should I like him? Because I kind of do but then maybe I shouldn't because he's not supposed to be doing the things he's doing...his power over us mere mortals is expressed through the pages and knocks you for six.
Cate is quite an intriguing character and i love her strength and determination throughout.
It is all a little twisted but I guess that's what happens when you hang in Hell with the devil and his demons.
Looking forward to book 2 to see how the Queen of Darkness handles the next step in her reign.

Embracing the Darkness - Laura Morgan

### 4.75 Stars ###

Darkness vs light, angels, demons, witches and lots of little unexpected twists along the way ...a great paranormal read which has that dark edge.

I don't want to reveal too much, when Cate turns 18 everything suddenly changes for her, she finds out her father is the devil and she makes her choice to join him in hell. This becomes a dark journey, although for me personally I didn't find this book overly dark, but it certainly has that darker edge.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the storyline kept me captivated the whole way through, I was hooked until the very end - paranormal by far has to be one of my favourite genres.

I love Cates character and how she 'embraces her darkness', sexuality and her ever changing world. Although I did find Cates tendencies to happily accept her unexpected circumstances too quickly a little frustrating at times. But having said this, I absolutely loved the steaming chemistry throughout, along with the tension and those unpredictable twists that arose.

This book will leave you wanting so much more, I can't wait to get started on book2, and highly recommend one-clicking the full box-set.

This is a story about a girl coming of age, who is then finally claimed by her father the devil.
She learns her way through this new and dark world, embracing her darkness within.
This book takes you through a vast time of many many years where so much happens with in Cate life from brother, sister, love, marriage, motherhood, friendship, betrayal, trust and a power change within the dark depths of hell.
So much so I have no idea where to start with this review
I also feel extremely conflicted by this book as I didn't feel connected to the characters in anyway I feel a lot of that had to do with it being told in third person (I'm not a big fan of these books) this book had the feel of someone telling a tail of long ago.
Although this book comes with a warning in its blurb I would say it's the topics covered that people would not like as the story does not go into great detail within most of them.
I liked the storyline of this but I find it a shame that I could not connect with the characters

Absolutely flipping amazing!

I'm a massive fan of dark reads and this is one book I couldn't wait to make a start with.

Embracing the Darkness is full of witches (good and bad), demons, angels and Satan himself.

This is the story of Cate and her journey of finding out she is the first born heir of Satan. She has a lot to learn and it's one hell of a roller coaster....(no pun intended lol) but one you will be glad you have rode.

I don't want to say to much as there is so much happening and I don't want to spoil anything! But I will say that this book will have you loving and hating Lucifer all at the same time. There are a lot of OMG'ing moments. I was drawn into the story so much. It's a very powerful read and full of every emotions possible.

I highly recommend everyone to.read this book and come and join the the darkness.

This is mt first book, that i have read by Laura Morgan.
I had agreed to give an honest review,at first it was hard to finish reading it for the beliefs i have. But however,i enjoyed this story.
Life can be hard at times. But Cate Black, seems to be like any other young girl. At least until she comes of age, and find out her father is the evil one incarnate. Finding out her friends, that have tried to keep her safe. Are not just friends as you would anticipate. They are white witches or Guiding light. She goes through her own trials and tribulations. Is forced to do things beyond, her control and learns ways of seducing and more.

I was kindly gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the book. It's the first book I have read by Laura Morgan. It's dark and its twisted. It hits on some taboo subjects. The words just flowed through the book. If I'm being completely honest, I almost stopped reading as some parts in the book are just to sickly but it needed to be included to get to the point at the end and to be able to fully understand the direction Laura was going with a character.

Laura is a very talented author and I will be recommending to friends

Having read Forever Lost, Forever Loved and The Invasion Days Series by Laura Morgan, I decided to try her darker books! I have loved everg book (I have read) that she has written and again she has not disappointed me. Another great book with lots of twists and turns. I soon became attached to the main character 'Cate', I was worried for her safety and wanted to know how she would manage to survive her ordeals! Although not my usual genre, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it am cannot wait to start the next one!
