Changing your ways is hard when people only see you as your past. No matter how hard Gently tried, she couldn’t change the way people now viewed her. She just wanted to move on from her ruined past.
We first got a glimpse into who Gently is in Pour Me Up Something Stronger Than Me. Now Gently wants to take the time out to tell her own story.
I like that we got to see Gently’s back story in previous book and got to see a changed Gently in this book. Gently really was going through having to live at a homeless shelter with her two year old son Kind who she tested five men as the father that kept coming back as 0%. It was mad crazy for her to run into Mimzy at the grocery store who ended up being Kind’s grandmother unknowingly to either one of them in the beginning. Mimzy understood Gently’s past and her wanting to do better because she had six sons with three baby daddies herself. I didn’t like how Koazy (Kayo) was treating Gently in most of the book like she was just a cum dump that he didn’t want but she wasn’t allowed to do her. I had to really take into account that they were really young and immature. Shadow and Mirror kept me laughing at their antics. I like the fact that Mimzy, Kayo, and the whole family accepted Gently, Kind(K2), and Ahlanis, Gently’s best friend, into the family. Gently and her sister Luxury lost contact and I was glad that they reunited by way of Tiger who was Kayo’s cousin. Gently got the best gift on her 22nd birthday to have her daughter Cozy and nephew Channing born on her special day. I did wonder why Gently and Kind were staying at the homeless shelter instead of with Granny because that’s where she was staying when she left Taraji’s house. I remember in the last book how Wednesday and Storm kept staring at each other and how he came to her defense when she was getting jumped by Juantez’s family but I was very shocked when Storm and Wednesday popped up to the sip and see party arguing and Storm referred to Wednesday as being his wife. Pour Me Something Stronger Than Me dropped in September 2023 and this book dropped in May 2024 so I’m more than ready for Wednesday and Storm’s book to drop.
This book had me feeling every emotion possible!! I fell in love with Gently and I loved how honest she was about her struggles and her journey! KOAZY had me rolling my eyes the entire book lol but all the brothers and there names had me intrigued! Can’t wait to see what’s next
This book is Gently's story following the events in Pour Me Up Something Stronger Than Me. Gently is now homeless with her toddler and has turned her life around completely. She is temporarily staying at a homeless shelter. She is trying to make the best of her situation despite her guilt of not being there for her kid previously, her past, her lack of future plans, and her confidence.
Gently has a chance encounter in Wal-Mart that leads her to discover her child's father's, new family, new opportunities, and love. She finds stability financially, emotionally, and as a parent. I did devour this in one day.
I enjoyed this so much, but I did have my issues. Koazy's domestic violence is overlooked as him being possessive. She is often turned on by his choking, but he does escalate to even putting hands on her in front of her family. He also "cheated," which is a no-no for book boyfriends. I feel like he will do it again without a problem just based on his attitude and how he handled the phone call with Seby after the appointment.
“No, the fuck you will not. Make that your last call.” I said before pressing End on the screen. “Fuck you mean you’re going to hit her back later?” “Chill, I just said that shit to end the call.” “That’s why she thinks it’s more, you had no business fucking her when you went to Miami anyways.” “How the fuck are you going to answer a call that I kept declining, then get mad that I’m talking to her?”
I do believe that Gently has found love. I still feel like this isn't a forever love for her. Wednesday's arrival at the end was nice. I'm curious to see if there will be a follow up book for these characters. I'd love to know what Wednesday was up to while everything was happening.

I always enjoy Tyrecka Liggons books. I am so happy for Gently. Also, I am happy to see who showed up in the end! I can’t wait for the next installment. It is a next one right?
