Die Liebe hat tausende Gesichter und Hesse, ein tief fühlender Mensch, verdichtet und durchlebte sie intensiver und leidender als manch anderer.
Das Buch ist eine Sammlung von intensiven Lust- und Liebesphantasien, Träumen und Erinnerungen, Leiden und unter anderem auch ungesunden Denkweisen seinerseits.
Hesse verdichtet unerreichbare Vorstellungen seiner Liebesobsesionen, gepaart mit wunderlichen und zauberhaften Jahreszeitengedichten.
Er hat seine ganz eigene Art und Note, eine versteckte Tiefgründigkeit in manchen der Gedichte für die man ihn kennt, die meiner Erfahrung nach zumindest nichts mit den normalen und realistischen Erfahrungen der alltäglichen Liebe zu tun haben.
Ich konnte mich schon immer gut in seinen Werken wiedersehen, mich in ihn hineinversetzen und als, im leichteren Maße, gleichgesinnte Romantikerin der die seelzerreißende Liebelei zusagt, im Wissen das wahre Lust (und manche Liebe) flüchtige Wesen sind, bestimmt zum verglühen, hat der alte Romantiker und, aus realistischer Sicht, der der Wollust verfallene Lüsterling mein Mitleid.
