They are young, they are ambitious, and they are on a business training seminar on a tropical island when… the phones stop working. The electricity is gone. There is not much food and water. Has some kind of global catastrophe happened, or is this part of the training? And if it isn’t an exercise, will anyone escape the island alive?

Rupert Morgan’s satire of business and capitalism keeps you laughing as the comedy gets progressively darker.

A very short book (86 pages) which is part of a french translation novella collection.

The jacket summarises :

"They are young, they are ambitious, and they are on a business training seminar on a tropical island when... the phones stop working.
The electricity is gone. There is not much food and water. Has some kind of global catastrophe happened, or is this part of the training? And if it isn’t an exercise, will anyone escape the island alive?"

A great summary and I'm surprised there hasn't been a Lord of the Flies-esque book about work colleagues before. I guarantee you'll recognise some of the characters from your workplace and their corresponding progression during the story.

I've given the book 4 out of 5 because there are no 3.5's.

Still, it's clever, it's enjoyable, it's funny in places and it's worthy of other people reading it.

“People say nature is cruel, and humans are violent.
People say business is savage, and nice guys do not win.
People say only the strong survive.
Maybe all these things are true. I don't know.
All I know is that in every human heart there is something stronger and, if necessary, more savage than any wild beast.
Lovers are the true barbarians. That is why love conquers.”
